|History:
-A prodigy in his own right, Mateus already had extensive ability with the Force by the time he was asked to join the Jedi Order. Found upon his home planet of Metellos, it was a wonder that he was not picked up due to his Force sensitivity during the days of the Empire. Growing up with a relatively uneventful childhood, Mateus seemed to have a predictive ability on how things were going to happen. Often times, when in danger, his body would seem to already be moving on it's own before his consciousness caught up.

As he grew older, Mateus used these abilities to his own economical benefit, using the predictive ability as well as his untrained "power" to slightly influence those around him, he would spend many years leading upto his joining of the Jedi Order gambling. When Luke originally approached him about joining the Jedi Order within the first days of the New Republic, Mateus was ecstatic, ready to leave his lifestyle and doing something "exciting." Though Luke was a bit uneasy due to his moral issues as well as his general lack of maturity, he could not argue that over the following months, Mateus proved himself a capable negotiator with an unorthodox method of investigation that he used to avoid combat. He also had the ability to sense truth in another's words, as well as a strong affinity for the Living Force.

With the limited number of Jedi available and Mateus' rapidly growing skills, he was given the rank of Knight in a few short years, becoming known throughout the order as a maverick that would clash with the will of the Council as his unique view on situations was "tainted by his upbringing and connection to living things." The Council deemed that these two factors influenced Mateus too strongly and kept him from being impartial.

While this may have been the case, he continued to provide service to the Order as a Jedi Knight through countless missions, usually attempting to avoid combat, but as he matured, Mateus realized his mastery of a lightsaber could be extended. Upon speaking to Luke, he received a series of holocrons detailing two very specific styles of Jedi swordsmanship: Ataru and Soresu. Using these holocrons, Mateus was relentless in his pursuit of mastery over these two skills, rapidly progressing. As he now considered his skill to be "adequate but far from complete," he was summoned to the Council.

Merely nine years after being brought into the Jedi Order, he was given the trials to test his for the rank of Jedi Master. As noted by the other Masters, the Living Force caused him to be more mindful of the present, allowing himself to be guided by the Force, which, they conceded, was not an altogether unpleasant thing. Given that his other skills were nothing short of remarkable, they only preached that he should also be mindful of the future and the honor of the Jedi Code. As he was being told this, the members of the Council arose to congratulate him upon his ascension to Jedi Master.
