| So you know, the article that was just posted is the result of management deliberation about what went on the "Like Taking Candy from a Baby" thread. We thought it'd be easiest to auto it in news form, and I was thinking you wouldn't mind this because attempts to resolve it between the two of you didn't look promising, as I'm sure you agree. (No offense). We think this auto resolves everything more-or-less satisfactorily. Here it is in summary form, with a couple of things added for clarification.
• Gambling is illegal on most Cronese Mandate worlds, but not all of them.
• Chandaar was the latest to criminalize gambling but confusion existed about when the law came into force.
• The penalty is a fine (and closing the casino on Chandaar, of course. Casinos on some other worlds, namely Arcan IV, remain in operation).
• There is no Imperial Gaming Commission (or, if there is, it deals with swoop races and other forms of inter-sector gambling, rather than casinos, which are more a local concern).
I hope this helps, guys. We tried to make it as satisfactory as possible to both of you.
As for "player control" of the Cronese Mandate, which was requested here but not apparently explained on the request itself (remember rule 1.4, everyone!), we've talked this over and agreed what it isn't, and what it isn't is a player being able to determine conclusively what all of his people think and do or prevent other players from RPing there. Bear with me here, the reasoning behind this is simple; if everyone had "player control" in this sense, no one would let anyone do anything to their planet or planets and, truly, there would be no conflict in the RP. I've not seen this in any RP before, including AGW.
Case in point—remember, Carl, when Qual tried to bribe Senator Ordan, and Ordan refused him (rudely)? Qual then attempted to sabotage a factory on Anaxes. This is a reasonable thing to happen in an RP, but wouldn't be possible if Ordan has insisted on "player control" of Anaxes. We do respect, however, that it's your faction and management takes that into consideration in disputes like this. Look at Anaxes, for example; Ordan determined what the security was and the sabotage was prevented. Or a more relevant example; Adam had a character named Timmons, similar to Marten Flagg, who attempted to set up shop on Naboo—for the time being, he's been obstructed from doing so. In all these cases, it just requires some IC muscle, but not OOC walls.
I'm sure you understand and agree with this, and it's probably what you meant with "player control" in the first place. We've discussed this in Messenger but just for the record here, being the person who controls the government and news outlets, etc. (in other words, the player who "controls" the Cronese Mandate IC) gives you a lot of leeway, and as on Naboo and Anaxes, I think management will respect that. It's in everyone's interest, really. So does that mean someone can just come in and say there's a revolt in the Cronese Mandate? No, it would require a lot of RP that you'd have lots of capability and opportunity to prevent.
I hope that clears that up. Jaron or Karth can correct me on this if I'm wrong, and feel free to ask any questions about this so it's not left unresolved.
