They're not warships.

You could hillbilly armour them but it would not be coherent or add much to hull structural integrity (that's what RU represents)

They move at like 20MGLT normally, doubling that isn't plausible.

They are cruise ships! They have cruise ship reactors and cruise ship hull structures.

Yes, you could tear out every deck and put bigger generators in, strap armour plates to the hull and add bigger engines but to do so would take months and cost more than just buying a warship.

Like you can arm merchant ships to an extent, but a cruise liner with guns but that doesn't mean it's remotely battle worthy (as World War II modifications confirm).

The proposed modifications would amount to a complete redesign and rebuild of the ships, I buy this to an extent for Starks yacht as an ego trip, yes he might waste money on that. It's not a practicable proposition in any other circumstances, and not viable in the timeframe given.

I mean by all means make them Merchant Cruisers (a few bolted on guns powered by independent generators) but further than that I don't think it fits.

Another point to add is that they're a Luxury Liner - ergo not cheap ships you'd bork about with - they have a high value as a cruise ship, modifying them heavily would destroy resale value - it would be cheaper to sell and buy a new one.

This is the ship the Emperor cruises around in and his hasn't been armoured when presumably it would be if it were fiscally viable.

I'm not sure if RPers have looked at the picture in detail - here's a big one. Notice the whole ship is covered in windows, thin hull parts &c.

It makes me sad seeing someone riveting steel plates and an RPG on a ferrari then calling it a tank.

Well for starters, resale value isn't really the point. Also granted, odds are if this is converted to a war-yacht, then the windows are likely replaced with someone more solid or covered with armored shutters of some kind. The image, after all, is of a stock C-3 liner.

I misread - I assumed you were requesting -more- armed Liners, thats what I thought was silly mostly.

Like I was thinking "Why the hell would you buy a load of luxury liners and upgrade them when it would literally be cheaper to use a military vessel bought second hand.

But no, one of these isn't so egregious as lots of them.

Haha. No worries Jamie. And you are correct, an entire fleet of armed liners would be as pointless as an asshole on the elbow.
