War Breaks Out as Houks Move on Dnalvec

Dnalvec, Sriluur, Outer Rim Territories — War between the rivalrous Weequay and Houk species on the planet Sriluur has erupted, as Houk forces attempted, and failed, to capture the planet's port city of Dvalnec, widely considered to be "Weequay territory." The Houk forces were repulsed in three hours of bloody hand-to-hand combat by the so-called Dvalnec Militia, one of many militias on Sriluur maintained by both species in the decades-long ethnic dispute between them.

Houk forces are in retreat to the fortified "Houk territories," just thirty kilometers from the northern limits of Dnalvec. At this hour, there is reason to believe that Houk forces elsewhere on the planet are preparing for incursions into Weequay territory to the south of the city, opening a second front in the burgeoning war.

The cultural rivalry of the Weequays and Houks is one of the best-known of the past three hundred years, and few are surprised that it has come to war.

Ethnic tensions have run hot on Sriluur since the arrival of the Houk species on the Weequay homeworld almost three centuries ago. Since that time, the two species have become cultural rivals, as the growth of the Houks to 10% of the planet's population has led to disputes over land. A year prior to the Clone Wars, a brawl on Coruscant between Weequay and Houk immigrants was broadcast on the holonet and further exacerbated tensions between the species.

An Imperial official told The Coruscant Journal that the Empire "is aware of the situation." Sriluur is situated in what is sometimes called "Hutt Space," and there was no comment as to whether the Empire would intervene in the Weequay-Houk war.
