Ryuun, Amid Controversy, Wins Doldur Election

Druckenwell, Doldur Sector — Lomen Ryuun, the Senator of Druckenwell, has been elected Senator of the entirety of the Doldur Sector in a widely-predicted but narrower-than-expected result that reflects Druckenwell's status as both the most heavily-populated and influential world in the Sector. Ryuun, the long-serving Senator of Druckenwell, won despite calls from an opponent to postpone the election until after the outcome of an Ethics Committee investigation into "vote-trading" and an alleged attempt to blackmail Senator Bernard Oriel of Vjun. The investigation is ongoing.

Throughout the Doldur Sector, Mr. Ryuun won 10% of the vote on Linuri, 12% on Geridard, and 87% on Druckenwell itself. Support for the Senator of Druckenwell was low, however, on Falleen (1%) and particularly Monor II (less than 1% of the vote), whose close diplomatic relationship—and cirrifog mining agreements—with Druckenwell collapsed last month in a dispute over Mr. Ryuun's support for an "Imperial Flag Bill" in the Senate seen on Monor II as blasphemous.

Mr. Ryuun's challenger in the election, King Haxim of Falleen, won 92% of his planet's vote, 32% on Monor II, and 10% on Boranall, but narrowly trailed Mr. Ryuun on the rest of the worlds of the Doldur Sector, many of whom have defense agreements with Druckenwell and, according to analysts, see Druckenwell—with its large fleet—as the hegemon of the Sector.

Throughout the campaign, Ryuun also faced an Ethics Committee investigation into whether or not he attempted to blackmail Senator Oriel of Vjun, the Chairman of the influential Defense Committee, into stepping down from the Committee in favor of Mr. Ryuun himself. The Senator denies this, but the Ethics Committee investigation has since expanded to include charges of "vote-trading" with former Senator Alyn Stark of Lorrd and charges that Mr. Ryuun is "unpatriotic." This week, one of Mr. Ryuun's witnesses—Senator Exar Ray of Dantooine—declined to testify to the Ethics Committee on the Senator's behalf.

Falleen's King Haxim had called for the election to be postponed until after the outcome of the investigation into Mr. Ryuun, but Kristoph Pike, the Moff of the Doldur Sector, declined to change the schedule. Moff Pike certified the result of the election this morning as one of his final acts as Moff; last month, Pike promised to retire at the end of the year as a sordid homosexual encounter with Aaron Fox, the disgraced former CEO of Eos Interstellar Productions Company (or EPIC), was reported by the Doldur Sector media.

Mr. Ryuun, on Imperial Center to testify before the Senate's Ethics Committee, thanked the Doldur Sector for its support and "promise[d] to work as hard for the rest of the sector as I have for Druckenwell." King Haxim, meanwhile, delivered a defiant speech declaring Falleen the "rightful heir" of the Doldur Sector and vowing to oppose what he referred to as Mr. Ryuun's "ethically-challenged, self-serving Druckenwellian agenda." Haxim is expected to submit a petition to next year's new Moff of the Doldur Sector seeking an independent Senator of Falleen, which Moff Pike has previously declined.
