2nd Most Wanted Gungan Captured on Naboo

Naboo, Chommell Sector — Self-styled Sergeant Rai Po of the Gungan resistance, an indigenous anti-Imperial movement on the planet Naboo, has been captured by Royal Security Forces (RSF) near the city of Kwilaan. Rai Po is believed to be the second-in-command to General Tenko, the leader of the resistance, and his arrest represents a public relations coup for the RSF and a potential item of contention between security forces and Imperial forces on the planet.

Rai Po was captured outside the city of Kwilaan after a blaster fight with RSF officers in which none were seriously injured. The Gungan and his party of four others were believed to be reconnoitering Kwilaan's communications array, of hemispheric importance to both RSF forces and Imperial forces. Rai Po was already wanted in Kwilaan for a raid on the city's arms depot some months ago and, according to Corporal Vanderbilt of the RSF station in Kwilaan, the Gungan is to be charged for the raid and for espionage.

Governor Mercutio of Naboo told The Coruscant Journal that he doesn't expect any charges to be brought against Rai Po concerning the Gungan's alleged crimes against Imperial forces, "nor do I intend to remand Sergeant Rai Po to Imperial custody." The Governor went on: "This Gungan's crimes are against the people of Naboo. Rai Po's unsubstantiated participation in this Gungan 'insurgency' is not the RSF's concern—his raid on an RSF weapons depot is."

Rai Po is wanted by Imperial forces on the planet for numerous war-related charges of murder and attempted murder, destruction of property, and terrorism. That Rai Po could be tortured in Imperial custody, however, is believed to be another reason for Naboo's reluctance to transfer him to the Imperial forces on Naboo under General Relius.

"While I do not expect Governor Mercutio and the government of Naboo to charge Rai Po for actions taken against the Empire," General Relius told reporters on Naboo this morning, "I do expect [them] to cooperate with the Empire in allowing justice to be delivered in honor of those who lost their lives on this world in its defense." The General added that Governor Mercutio "is displaying a blatant disregard for justice for the brave men and women of the Imperial uniformed services."

General Relius also announced a bounty of 1 million credits for the capture of the Gungan General Tenko and half a million credits for Gadnek Tenko, Po Ban Ceel, Tinsa Marsune and Wulli Kukkels, participants in Tenko's resistance movement who remain at-large.

(Correction) It has been brought to The Coruscant Journal's attention that Rai Po, while indeed a Sergeant in General Tenko's resistance movement, is not, in fact, the second-in-command as previously reported. The names and ranks of the Gungan resistors are, of course, not widely-publicized and The Coruscant Journal is one of several publications that were in error on Mr. Po's position.
