Lorrdians, Aurilites Talk Peace, Prepare for War

Lorrd, Kanz Sector, Outer Rim Territories — Preparations for war continue on the planet Lorrd and the worlds of the Auril Sector, as the respective combatants in this postponed conflict meet on Coruscant for eleventh-hour peace talks mere days after the forces of the powerful "Auril Sector Union"—an alliance of worlds in the predominantly-Tionese Auril Sector—attacked a space station in orbit above Lorrd, killing more than a hundred. Imperial ships now occupy the space where the station once stood, enforcing a week-long ceasefire so that the peace talks, mediated by Senator Aurelius of Deralia, may continue.

The conflict began with Lorrd's mass deportation of Vianists—a religious minority in the Kanz Sector considered "undesirable" by the Empire and the governments of both Lorrd and the Auril Sector Union—to Lorrd's moon; among the refugees, a Tionese relative of Hector Cynum, the leader of the Auril Sector Union, who lost her child in the process of deportation. Cynum, considering the child's death a murder and blaming the government of Lorrd for it, cited an ages-old Tionese custom and demanded a "blood price" to be paid as compensation and, without notification or warning, launched an attack on Lorrd.

Although many on Imperial Center have openly doubted whether this is just cause for war, Moff Winder of the Auril Sector has taken no steps to restrain the Mr. Cynum's Auril Sector Union, while Moff Shirnoq of the Kanz Sector has dispatched Imperial ships to Lorrd to enforce a ceasefire for only one week, whether or not a peaceful resolution is reached in that time.

Expectations for the peace talks on Coruscant are mixed. Our correspondent reports that Lorrd, with its vastly smaller forces, has more to gain from a negotiated peace. In the meantime, however, preparations for war continue throughout the Auril and Kanz Sectors. Sources have confirmed that the Auril Sector Union has commissioned new ships from the SoroSuub Corporation and Rothana Heavy Engineering and requisitioned Giga-class "mega transports," while industries in the Lorrd and Kol Huro systems, as well as the Druckenwell Shipyards and the Wandrau Arms Corporation are all reported to be working overtime on ships and tanks for Lorrd, financed in part by a 2.95 billion credit loan from Ralltiir.

The Coruscant Journal will continue to report on the story as it develops.
