Geoff Cole began life as the sole son of extremely wealthy parents; landowners, in fact, of many hundreds of thousands of acres of valuable farmland on Abrion Major, one of the breadbaskets of the Empire. His parents, far from being farmers themselves, stemmed from a wealthy stock that had rumors of nobility in its past. The Cole family never put much stock in the rumors, but they could and did live much like nobility on Coruscant, spending much of their time away from the agriworld of Abrion Major, save for visits to ensure all was going properly. As a result, their sole heir and pride and joy grew up in the best society had to offer, even from a young age.
As many Imperial families did, the Coles sent their son to the Coruscant Pilot Institute after his graduation of basic schooling at the age of eighteen, hoping to gain a prestigious flying ace in the family. Cole completed a single year and then was dropped from the institute, much to the chagrin of his parents. It seemed his abilities to fly were rather lacking and it was best decided that his talents lay elsewhere. Cole opted to attend the Raithal Academy; graduating with honors much along the lines of others who had come before, such as Lieutenant (then Cadet) Nyrox. With a career ahead of him, Cole instead opted to return for more schooling, finishing with a full term at the Vensenor Flight Academy. Cole graduated with honors once again, demonstrating an uncanny ability with large-scale battle strategy and going on to raise to the rank of captain within a year and a half.
Imperial Intelligence contacted Cole several times during his ascension, wishing to recruit the brilliant young man into their ranks, but Cole refused. He believed his gift was not for subterfuge and such cloak-and-dagger options, but to assist with all he could in the Imperial Military. Having never married, one could say it was his only true love and the Empire his solitary ambition that drove him to greater heights.
Cole never made it to Grand Admiral, or even Admiral, though. Around the time Cole was given his first Star Destroyer command, the current Grand Moff of the Abrion Sector, a dear and devoted friend (or as much as one such as a Moff could be) of the Cole family was reaching the end of his days. Having the ear of Palpatine (as all Moffs reported to the Emperor), the dying man brought up Geoff Cole as a replacement, citing his exemplary record, swift understanding of the Imperial procedures and, more importantly, his familiarity with the Abrion Sector in general. Much to Cole's dismay, he was chosen as the next sector governor. It seemed to him his dreams of the military had come to and end.
Aside from his solitary joy of dueling, either with blade or blaster, his one aim is to keep the Abrion Sector a bountiful addition to the Galactic Empire.
