Cale's creativity having been suppressed by the Jedi throughout his youth, it manifested itself now in the form of sadistic torture methods, both physical and psychological. He demonstrated little aptitude for combat, however, and so he was envisaged as a different kind of Inquisitor; one who would hunt for Jedi—and Jedi collaborators—not in farthest reaches of the galaxy, but in its most prestigious social circles which, the Emperor suspected, had become compromised. Thus, all mentions of Finius Cale in Jedi records were made classified, and he would become a common sight as a dignitary in the Imperial court and a representative of the Emperor at formal functions across the galaxy, all while governing his homeworld of Baltimn.

Baltimn, though, had become an uncomfortable place for Cale. There, he seemed to be haunted by the presence of Ephaan Kenzon, and believed that it was the familiarity of his homeworld that called to mind these memories of his former mentor. Little did Cale know (or, perhaps, want to know) that Kenzon had survived the Jedi Purge and was alive and well in hiding on Baltimn. Also, beginning in 12 BBY, the planet suffered a prolonged period of drought that continues to this day, and endangers Baltimn’s crop production and, thus, its economy. Cale, with his experience in the agricultural corps, spends long hours in the fields, using the Force to induce the fertilization of crops—a simple act of creating life, rather than destroying it, that brings him persistently closer to the Light Side of the Force over time. Still, most of that time is spent elsewhere in the galaxy, doing the Emperor’s bidding and hunting down the last of the Jedi.

Personality/Psychology
In person and in conversation, Cale is calm and cordial. But as a youth, he chafed at the Jedi Order’s demand for what he regarded as “mindless submission” to their codes and superstitions. Supremely confident in himself and following the example of his fiery, defiant Master, Cale was frustrated that the Jedi Council would not listen to him. Over time, his desire to be listened to became a desire for influence, and his desire for influence became a desire for power. Ephaan Kenzon was the only Jedi whom Cale respected, and he acted as a moderating influence on his Padawan’s frustrations. After Kenzon’s departure from the Order, Cale would come to blame the Council for “forcing him out,” and would never forgive them for damning him to the indignity—and the tedium—of the agricultural corps. When the Jedi Order fell, he did not miss it, and, assuming Kenzon to be dead, his passion to hunt down the remaining Jedi has not been tempered by time. Now, as an Inquisitor, he has developed a desire for the finer things in life, too; not only power, but possessions and prestige, as well. He travels simply, in a Sentinel-class landing shuttle with an obedient clone crew, but his home on the planet Sigil is adorned with works of art and sculpture that he has accumulated in his travels. He is also known to sport many of the latest (and strangest) fashions.
