Background: Jack always grew up in adversity, being forced to work from age 7 (his family having fled Chandaar due to debts to a mobster when he was 2) he was never educated past this age. While not a literate man, Jack was keenly intelligent and had the ability and willingness to be shrewd and work hard. Working as a Mechanic for twenty years, he entered union politics aged 27 and rose to head of the Cronese General Workers Union. A supporter of the former socialist coalition, he was outraged when the conservative "Values" party was "elected" in elections he has repeatedly described as a "travesty".
After the new party began to cut spending to the Poor, Jack lead his men out in a general strike against the Caluulan Assembly Government, shutting down much of the infrastructure for central Caluula City. Following a law that prohibited "wildcat" strikes and "General strikes", he lead his men out to protest. After the police used tear gas on their protests he lost faith in the Government and called on his men to riot and overthrow the "Values Party".
