Affiliation/Occupation: Smuggler Ship/Vehicle: a YT-1300 light freighter Weapons: 2 DL-44 heavy blaster pistols Crew: A R2-series astromech droid dubbed R2-Z6
Bio: The smuggler was born and raised on Lok. For many generations, the males in his family had been smugglers. The lineage goes as far back as the Great Galactic War. Because of this, his father had taught him how to shoot at an age of five. Then his father was killed when the guy was helping the Lok Revenants out on combating one of Trade Federation occupations. This event would develop Derek's hatred for Trade Federation. He continued to hone on his trigger-happy talent under one of his father's closest friend which was a member of the Lok Revenants. He would also save up enough money purchase a pair of DL-44 heavy blaster pistols, of which to this day, he still owns. Even though he was a free-fledged smuggler, he was helping the Revanants fight off the Trade Federation when he was just starting his teenager years. Then he decided to leave Lok and venture out into the galaxy. That was right after Battle of Geonosis erupted, when he was at an age of fifteen. Most people thought he was rather too young to be a smuggler and owning a ship, a YT-1300 light freighter to be exactly. He may be a smuggler but he decided to occasionally help the Republic troopers and the Jedi Knights whenever he can since the Trade Federation had integrated itself into the droid army. Derek managed to score some impressive feats in the Clone Wars. In one instance, Derek managed to put together a band of smugglers and broke through a Confederacy blockade in an effort to rescue a Senator and a couple of his bodyguards that were stranded on an Outer Rim world. He also managed to use his lone freighter, with a Jedi Knight and a squad of clone commandos in tow, off another Outer Rim world that was also blockaded and overran by Separatists.
However, his most incredible feat had to come on the day of Order 66. At about the same time a battle was raging on Cato Neimoidia, he was there to hunt down for the Separatist commander that had killed his father a decade earlier. With some difficulty, he managed to destroy a squadron of B2 battle droids and a droideka (with a grenade, that is) before killing off the Neimoidian. At that moment, his hatred for the Trade Federation vanished but it didn't bring him the peace he was hoping for. Carefully treading his way back to the Republic side of the battle, he witnessed something that shouldn't have happened. He saw Plo Koon's Jedi starfighter being shot by a couple of ARC-170s over the skies. Derek knew something had to be wrong, and there had to be a damn good reason for shooting down Jedi Knights. There was a Padawan about to be shot down by a squad of clone troopers when the smuggler had pulled a fast one on them from their behinds with both of his DL-44 heavy blaster pistols. Being the smuggler he is, he took the risk in saving something that he shouldn't have been involved in the first place. The pair managed to work together and fending off the clones on the way to his light freighte, but not before freeing a Separatist prisoner that would assist them in escaping. He had to pull off a lot of fancy moves to avoid getting shot down by ARC-170s and V-wings, in addition to the Jedi and the Separatist using the gunners to shoot the enemy fighters down. After getting past a Venator, the freighter had entered into hyperspace.
That was when he found out about the Jedi "plotting" to overthrow Palpatine over the HoloNet and the Republic had turned into the Empire. He dropped the Separatist off to be reunited with his own people. Then he found a suitable hiding place for the Jedi to stay in, before venturing out in the galaxy and lending his hand to several resistances whenever and wherever they need now that his hatred had shifted to the Empire.
