Background: Raised on Atrisia, he comes from a unique culture within the Jedi Order; a culture which is far more militant than the Order would care to admit, and more demanding than most other Jedi can withstand. Upon being recognized as an infant as being Force sensitive, he was trained by a fellow Atrisian Jedi, Jedi Master Yeo Zhang, the Watchman of Atrisia. While not being numerous, the Atrisian Jedi were notable for their resemblance to many warrior cultures, rather than Jedi. At the age of sour, he was handed over to the Jedi Order for training.
He was marked as the head student of his Youngling class, being placed in the Wolf Clan, although was just as notable for his harsh treatment towards peers, and struggles with controlled his anger at times, as well as difficulty grasping the lesson of mercy. Despite this, he was accepted by Jedi Knight Vernon Daine as his first apprentice. Daine did not hold him back, and in fact immediately began bringing him along on missions unless absolutely unnecessary.
While he proved himself able several times over, and early on, the early exposure to the galaxy, and the requirements of a Jedi opened his eyes, and taught him lessons that life within the sheltered walls of the Jedi Temple could not. He also saw, in his eyes, that the Jedi Code was tantamount to a Jedi surviving in the outside world, and became a rigid adherent to it. He did, however, take it quite literally as well, leading to taking several liberties that most would not.
He was knighted at the young age of sixteen, partially as a testament to his ability, and also as part of the coming times. Rather than take on an apprentice, however, he chose to serve within the Jedi Peacekeepers, initially trained as a Jedi Sniper. He excelled in matter of combat, and was eventually tapped as a Jedi Brute. His skills continued to increase, as did his renown, serving as interim Gate Master for a brief time until Gate Master Jurokk was chosen for the position.
Still unwilling to take on an Apprentice, he chose to join the Jedi Aces and hone his skills as a pilot. Upon achieving the position of Blue Leader, a position he would hold until the outbreak of the Clone Wars, he chose to finally take on an apprentice. He chose upon the most unsuspecting, although some would disagree, Padawan he would. R'khakh, a Noghri, who had been stolen from his then largely unknown homeworld by a group of Mandalorians looking for a slave, and someone to train as their personal assassin, who had been freed by his former Master. Feeling a need to take on an apprentice many said would fail, like himself, and out of a debt of honor to his Master, he chose to apply his own ideals and principles to the young Noghri's instruction. Unrelenting and unforgiving, he valued experience as a teacher for R'khakh as much as he valued simple pain. Many had issue with his methods, but it was not a concern of his... it was his results. The same methods that had made him such a remarkable Jedi, would make R'khakh such, or he was not worthy of being a Jedi in his eyes. Lucky for him, R'khakh shared the same sentiment during his time as a Padawan.
Eventually R'khakh was knighted, and had chosen to follow his Master's path in joining the Peacekeepers before considering training a student of his own. Due to his successful training of a Padawan, he was granted the title of Jedi Master. Rather than continue training Padawans, he chose to become a Lightsaber Instructor, and sought the valued title of Weapon Master. He also took time to write several books in regards to lightsaber combat, lightsaber forms, Jedi weapons, use of "alternative" weapons by Jedi, and warfare by Jedi. Through his work, personal knowledge, and training of countless Padawans in the initial arts of the Lightsaber, he was recognized shortly before the outbreak of the Clone Wars as a Weapon Master. While having served as security for the first Jedi mission to broker a peace agreement in the Sepan Civil War, and a direct negotiator for the second, his duties did not allow him to join the third mission.
As the Separatist Crisis drew to its climactic finale, he joined many other Jedi in forming the Geonosis Strike Team. In the initial arena fighting, he was pushed to the edge by the droids, and upon the main group becoming surrounded, he, among several other Jedi, fought their way out of the Arena to signal for assistance from the space forces. It was this second group's effort that saved some of the most critical members of the Jedi Order from demise at the hands of Count Dooku, and aided in ultimately winning the battle. Once out of the Arena and into the main battle, he was at the head of the Republic's center, carving a spearhead into the Droid Army, looking to take out as much Separatist war assets as possible in the battle. Upon it's conclusion, he returned to Coruscant. There, he took on one of the many orphaned Jedi Padawans from the battle, a human named Jace Varitek. He was seen as anti-social, unsure of himself, contrarian, and a "free-thinker"; some of the worst attributes that could be given to a Padawan. He viewed the young man as something of a challenge, and sought to "correct" his negative attributes through the same means that made his previous Padawan a successful Jedi Knight. While his units for the war prepared to ship out over the next several months, he spent every day in the Temple, training Jace in his version of the arts of the Jedi. While he sought to break the young Jedi and then rebuild him, it seemed to only increase his negative attributes, leading to a very confrontational relationship. Seeing the traditional approach being unsuccessful, he decided that Jace would immediately serve on the front lines, by his side, in the hopes that the real experience of war would correct his Padawan.
When the Clone Wars broke out, he was one of the twenty Senior Jedi Generals who were initially fielded. In his case, he simultaneously led the Republic Navy's Fifth Fleet and Grand Army of the Republic's Fifth Sector Army, overseeing the final training and mustering of both units, before deploying primarily in the Outer Rim and Mid Rim throughout the war, until the last year, in which they were the lead unit in attempting to defend the Core Worlds. He was widely recognized for his martial talents throughout the war, and noted as being a rather valued individual by the Jedi Order. The Council recognized this, and granted him the title of Warrior Master. It was said he was the imminent choice to replace Cin Drallig as Battlemaster, should it be necessary, and at the time of the Great Jedi Purge, he was to take one of the three short-term seats of the Jedi High Council, to lend a strong and experienced voice, outside of the Council's mindset, to the discussion of how to treat the Jedi relation with the established Republc military at the conclusion of the Clone Wars at the behest of both Grand Master Yoda and Master Mace Windu. His term on the Jedi High Council, was not to be.
While his former Master fielded a force primarily of birth-born recruits, he preferred to merely replace his Clone casualties with birth-born recruits, leading to a mixed force; much of Systems Army Delta was either purely birth-born or mixed units by the end of the war. In the end, it was Daine's forces that would prove useful in a large portion refusing Order 66. None of his troops did, birth-born or clone... leading to the execution of every Jedi within his command, with exception to his Padawan who was with him. He was not to fall at the hand of his troops, however. In preparation for his entrance into the Jedi High Council, and in an attempt to have his books become standard training texts, he spent much of the time after the Battle of Coruscant in the Jedi Temple. Just before he was to take his High Council seat, however, he was sent to the chapter house on Antar 4. While he was there to learn to be able to seamlessly integrate with the Antarian Rangers, he also viewed the time as a break from war in which he could attempt to heal the constantly fractured relationship he had with Jace. This was not to be, however, as the moment news of Order 66 arrived on Antar 4, Jace was nowhere to be found.
The moment it seemed darkest, his own Padawan had abandoned him; it was a betrayal that hit deeper than Order 66 itself. He stayed on Antar 4, organizing the Jedi and Antarian Rangers for a defense against the quickly coming Republic forces. They held out as long as they could in a final stand on the planet, but were eventually forced offworld. Upon ensuring the surviving Jedi and Rangers were safe, he went to Coruscant to pursue a one-man war against the Emperor and his traitorous apprentice, Darth Vader. He underestimated the resolve with which the newly formed Empire would pursue the Jedi, and finally heard the lie that was being spun to justify the genocide of the Jedi. While initially successful in his campaign, with the ever increasing Inquisitor forces and a population largely against the Jedi, he was eventually forced off-world.
To his surprise, Master Daine and his forces were still fighting against the new Empire, and he joined their fight. Reunited with his old Master and old Padawan, R'khakh, he found himself at home. Every day was warfare... every day was strategy, tactics. Unfortunately, being one of the lone resistance movements has its costs, which they suffered in a war of attrition. There reached a point where they had become vulnerable, and the Empire was able to outnumber them. It was only fitting that they were betrayed within; a Rodian Padawan, by the name of Kelbis Reeven, informed the Inquisitorious of the location of their base, seeking to have his life spared. When the treachery was discovered, Sun personally killed Kelbis, but it was too late. Within hours, Darth Vader's forces were upon them. He helped lead the general fleet effort against Vader's fleet, and upon defeat, rode an escape pod down to the surface to aid in the ground combat. Despite their best efforts, every Jedi besides himself and R'khakh were killed. During the battle, following Vader's defeat of Vernon Daine, he and R'khakh engaged Vader together. It seemed that the fatigue of having defeating several Knights and Padawans had worn Vader thing, and was within defeat by the former master and apprentice duo, but their duel was interrupted by a crashing ARC-170, that nearly killed all three of them.
Given the opportunity, and the only alternative aside from death, R'khakh convinced him to flee the battle to fight another day. They did so, but barely, and agreed to help each other heal from the battle and then go their separate ways in order to lessen the likelihood of detection. During this time, he journeyed the galaxy, learning what he could from Matukai and Zeison Sha, becoming a Matukai Adept and Zeison Sha Warrior respectively, learning Echani martial arts and beginning instruction in Teräs Käsi in between both sojourns. Out of respect of both distinctive Force user cultures, he did not teach any of their students in his time there, merely being a student himself, and leaving upon completing his training. Having been several years since his last battle with the Empire, he seeks to reunite with his fellow Jedi, with the hope that some resistance to the Empire exists, so that he may continue his war against Palpatine and Darth Vader.
