"Money keeps all things rolling. From the lowest beggar to the highest lord, everything thrives on sales. We give them what they want. They choose how it is used." -Dai'aran Ravak

Background:

Ravak and Larben Enterprises. A name synonymous with ship-building and excellence in a myriad of technological wonders, as well as with mystery and, considered by many, odd and private. Nonetheless, their skills can be seen by the popularity of their work; it is impeccable. The question then, is not if their work is good, or whether or not they can meet the deadlines of their clients (which they have never failed to do yet), it is about them, where they hail from and indeed, what exactly they are.

Ravak and Larben themselves have very little Holonet presence. Their advertisements with 'themselves' in it could by and large be made with any unassuming man from Corellia, Coruscant, Tatooine, Dantooine or any number of worlds. A business suit doesn't change much from place to place. The only real out-of-place item could be a lack of a distinct accent marking them from one world or another, or a distinct manner of body language (such as the Coruscanti habit of walking with one's shoulders hunched in).

This, then, is the true face behind R&L Enterprises. Hailing from beyond the Outer Rim, these odd but intelligent creatures could be considered far distant cousins to the Mon Calamari. Belonging to a race known as the Octoids, Ravak and Larben are some of the handful of survivors of a race decimated by disease and ravaged by countless years of war. Unlike the Mon Calamari though, the Octoids cannot survive out of a high-moisture or watery habitat, leading them to build armor that could accommodate their needs.

Ravak and Larben, an inseparable pair of like minds, met and banded together midway through what their society considered 'The Final War.' Never having served as soldiers, politicians or indeed, as much of anything outside the private industry, neither one could ever accurately tell what caused the conflict. Some had said it was arguments over water-world rights; others stated it began in the hatcheries where one upstart politician wanted to limit the birth rate. The results though, were the same: entire worlds burned.

In a civil war, it is prudent for both sides to be well-equipped. Ravak & Larben Enterprises worked off of the need for ships by both sides. While it might seem unscrupulous to do such an odd thing (especially to one's own race), the Octoid mind works differently. Selling their best products to both sides ensured the survival of R&L Enterprises, gaining them mass amounts of wealth but, more importantly, the means to build beyond the fringe of their home systems, taking their construction site far out and away from where their fighting people would not stumble across it and destroy it accidentally.

The war came to a close as most wars did; both sides reeling from attrition and lacking worlds on which to try and resettle. The few survivors who were willing to make the trek departed the galactic arm in which they lived, heading further out for parts unknown. Ravak and Larben, perhaps oddly enough, decided to peddle their wares elsewhere. After all, they had walked away with mounds of resources, workable shipyards and enough droids and construction items to man their shipyards and droid construction operations. Now, in a new place, the pair of shipwrights intend to do what they do best: sell the top product to the highest bidder.

Homeworld: Othalius
Height: 8'9''
Weight:: 900 lbs
Species: Octoid
Affiliation: Ravak & Larben Enterprises

Background:

Dai'aran Ravak, a creature of armor and weapons, is fitting in his position as designer of armor, weapons and putting the picture all together nicely. Where Larben is the pacifist brains, Ravak is quick to anger, swift to turn that anger into the art of designing a new and destructive system and even quicker to sell that system to the highest bidder. Physically stronger than Larben, Ravak chose as well to adopt a bipedal form that seems almost laughable: a powerful and weapon-filled upper torso atop what seems to be a minuscule and nearly laughable set of legs. Laughable at least until one observes the superior craftsmanship that allows them to operate the heavier machinery that is his upper body.

Name: Fernao Larben
Age: 301 standard years
Homeworld: Othalius
Height: 6'
Weight:: 300 lbs
Species: Octoid
Affiliation: Ravak & Larben Enterprises

Background:

While technically asexual, Fernao Larben, albeit being rather masculine in nature, preferred to create his protective shell in a quasi-humanoid variant that would be somewhat aesthetically pleasing while simultaneously functional for his purposes and comfortable to be stuck in for quite some time. The result was the T7-003 multipurpose suit. Humanoid to be able to identify with the bipeds of the galaxy in their subconscious, the suit is both comfortable and flexible, offering the bonuses of humanoid limbs as well as Octoid variants. Of course, as a stranger in a new galaxy, it is not without its defenses, which include high-powered laser cannons and pincer arms at the ends of each limb, as well as high strength and a high-power multiphase laser that projects from the front of the head assembly.

Larben is actually the pacifist of the pair, preferring to simply immerse himself in his work and remain alone for hours, undisturbed by other living organisms. If possible, he might well have transferred his conscious mind to the body of a droid, but the thought of losing his natural body seemed far too limiting. Nonetheless, despite his eccentricities, he remains a valuable part of the corporation and quite instrumental in the departs of engines, powerplants and droid internal systems.
