A 5% tax cut for core worlds would go a long way to spurring their economies and, ultimately, benefit the entire Empire, including worlds beyond the core (and colonies?..). The increased economic output from the core worlds would translate into a higher trade volume, as well as a higher demand for goods and services from their massive population bases. Take Commenor as an example, its population based on the last planetary census hovers around 10 billion people system-wide. 10 BILLION, Senators. What outer rim provinces can claim that population base? Think of that for a moment. Admittedly, Commenor cannot support its populace on its own bread and butter. We have a vast trade network including a sub-route with the Perlemian Trade route, which helps bring in outer rim territory-based commerce safely and quickly. Therefore, an increased demand on Commenor for goods/services will help spur the expansion of mining and other base industries originating outside the core-worlds and especially those worlds that lie along the major trade routes, thus benefiting all Imperial worlds, albeit in different ways (directly for the core, indirectly for planets involved in commerce with the core). A 15% tax increase on the non-core worlds would counteract such an economic benefit, therefore, Commenor votes in favor of the original motion.

Ronsard Entrente

Senator of Commenor
Ranking Member, Commerce Committee

"Absolutely not, this body can not afford to raise taxes on the poorer developing worlds just so some of the core worlds can have a tax break. How about this instead we give the expansion and rim worlds a tax break of 30% and we raise the core worlds rate to make up for the slack. That way more planets have a chance to prosper. I am firmly against this bill.

I concur with the points Senator Entrente has raised. Indeed, the Core and its Colonies comprise much of the population of the galaxy and generate most of its wealth. Brentaal alone has a population of 65 billion, to say nothing of immensely more populous worlds like Metellos and Imperial Center. All of of these are engines of industry and commerce (if I may be forgiven my immodesty, I would say particularly Brentaal, which facilitates trade for much of the galaxy from the Tingel Arm to Wild Space). I see no reason why this should not be rewarded, and I fear that the Senators who are opposing this measure are doing so purely out of parochial interests. Garos IV, for instance, an agricultural and mining world of 22 million population, can not be expected to benefit from this measure to the extent that the Core Worlds would. Kaal, also, has a population of only 4.5 million, and its economy is based on tourism. Please, Senators, think beyond your provincial interests and consider what will do the greatest good for the greatest number. I vote in favor.

Dantooine will not suffer because it is not in the Core. I vote firmly against this motion.

I vote against this unless it also includes Outer Rim sector capital worlds with populations of 22 billion or higher.

I will not allow Telos IV to suffer a high tax increase as well, just because it's all the way out in the Outer Rim Territories. I must vote against.

Unfortunately, the measure is defeated with 23% in favor and 77% opposed. For the record, Senator Entrente, your vote was not counted since Senator Ordan appears not to have rescinded the amendment that you oppose, as the chair understands it.
