Senators, I've searched the archives and there is nothing about this currently active within the empire.

I present to you.
The Food Act.
On many planets that fall under the empires jurisdiction, they serve all types of food, some of it deadly to humans, and some of deadly to other species. Here is what I propose restaurants, kiosks, and market's do.

1. Hang a sign, or tell the customer which food would be fine for their race, and which food would be poisonous or cause extreme sickness for their race.
2. If a proprietor of a kiosk, restaurant, and so forth does not tell the customer about a food, and they purchase it and become ill, the proprietor must pay a fine, and pay for the customer's medical cost, including hospital fee's and if it comes to it, funeral services.
3. To track these transactions, we would have to open up a small office, where receipts from all over the galaxy that have to do with food sales, will be faxed to this office, with the proprietor's name, and the location of where he/she/it is located, so we would be able to bill this person, that's how we'd deal with number 2.
4. Add sub menu's for the multiple alien species within Imperial Worlds. Regarding what will be poisonous for them, and what would be fine for them.

If any one has something to add, I'm open to ideas.

This bill would provide much-needed health care cost savings through its preventative measures from unintended food poisoning, as well as additional revenues from collected fees. Commenor votes in favor.

"I am sorry senator, but I have some key questions I believe need to be asked about this measure. There are more than 20 million sentient species in the galaxy senator are you honestly going to ask business owners to know which species their food effects and doesn't effect out of such a large list. While I agree this measure would be beneficial to planets I just have to wonder how it can be done so as not to raise unnecessary costs on individual small businesses across the empire.

However instead of a sign used to tell which races would be effected by their foods these businesses should instead be asked to post their MOST used ingredients on the door allowing the individual customers to make an informed decision based on their own species dietary concerns.

I have a simple solution, Volus. Instead of needing to tell all customers whats safe and what isnt for their species, why not only human customers? I propose all restaurants in a city with a human population of 10% or more must have next to all items on the menu symbols that look like this, a human hand in a green "thumbs up" or red "thumbs down" gesture depending on if its safe for human consumption. The restaurants would be subject to random inspections to make sure the ratings are correct.

Senator Oswaldt has a good proposal, but I would rather that it extends to everyone. That includes non-Humans as well, they deserve to know which food could poison them. If we are to follow Senator Oswaldt's proposal, then it would further discriminates the non-Humans in this galaxy. I believe in equality, and I propose a following amendments: That there be a menu provided to each species whenever they enters a restaurant. That way they won't have to worry about what is poisonous and what is not.

Sub menu's would be acceptable, seeing as mostly every species out there speaks, or understands basic. I'll add your idea to the bill, Senator Fowlkes. And as for Senator Oswaldt's idea, I'll put it into consideration, but I do not wish to discriminate the alien species.

Does anyone care how many trillions of credits this would cost? Or how many restaurants its going to put out of business? Volus is right, there are at least 20 million species out there.. is a restaurant supposed to have 20 million menus? This is a half-baked idea.. its political correctness on a financial rampage. Senator Fowlkes, under your amendment your favorite restaurant on Telos IV will go out of business because it needs to have 20 million menus for 19,999,990 species that don't even live on Telos IV. It will need to hire an army of xenobiologists and microbiologists and every kind of biologist to evaluate its food. Honestly, the chair needs to shoot this down. Its ridiculous. At least my amendment is affordable, not some alien-hugger's wet dream.

The reason of this bill is to try to prevent food poisoning, and deaths by food that may be poisonous to humans, and aliens alike. The menu's as senator fowlkes said WOULD be quiet expensive, But It's a thought, your plan is good too, Senator Oswaldt, I appreciate the proposal, I am looking into it, and if you have any more, please let us know.

Indeed, the amendment I proposed may be very expensive and one that may be unnecessary. However, I think this is the best way to prevent food poisoning. Unless there's a cheaper and more effective alternative, this may be the best choice by far.

"I think my proposal would work best on this measure. Have them simply post the ingredients to their foods instead of to which species it may be harmful. That way it will be up to the consumer to know what he or she can and can not eat.

Grand Vizier Pestage, Can we freeze this bill until we come up with a better way to show what would be deadly towards each species on imperial planets?
