Are you suggesting your speciesist statement as an amendment, Governor Oswaldt?

If so, Chandrila will be voting against this measure.

If not, Chandrila will vote for the measure, pending the acceptance of Senator Rays reasonable amendment.

Ilanah R. Thanatos
Senator of Chandrila

Then I vote against. Theres no way I'm treating aliens who attack Eriadu better than aliens who live on Eriadu. Thats what this bill would require

Johannes Oswaldt
Senator and Governor of Eriadu

Druckenwell approves of this measure and votes in favor.

Governor Oswaldt, do try to be a decent fellow and see the vote for what it is instead of letting yourself be blinded by the alien aspect.

I am guessing your act wouldn't apply for High Value Target's would they? Say if we were to catch some of the higher ranked criminals against the empire. Such as Commander Baird as he calls him self. Would he have the same right? to work to prove his keep? or would he simply be tortured?

Excuse me, Sir, this bill applies to legal combatants, not to rebels or "criminals." And I would thank you not to assume that the Empire has some habit of "torturing" its prisoners. There are times when rigorous interrogation is necessary, yes, and there are times when it isn't. When it's necessary, I expect it would be done, and when it isn't, it wouldn't. The bill has nothing to do with Mr. Baird, but whether or not he would be subject to rigorous interrogation depends on the circumstances of his capture and would not (and should not) be our decision to make.

With respect to aliens, it was not my understanding that it is Imperial policy to regard alien species as equal under the law.

That seems a bit unfair, Senator Cambrist, if I may put it nicely. After all, some of us 'aliens' are quite loyal to the Empire.

I hadn't intended to be unfair, Senator Domon. Quite the opposite, actually, because equality isn't necessarily fair—a Wookiee on a men's grav-ball team wouldn't be fair, for instance. Or, to use a more relevant example, requiring the Sluis Van Shipyards to be an "equal opportunity employer" and hire inanimate life forms, like algae or crystals, to build ships wouldn't be fair. There are differences between the species, and it seems fair to me that any law attempting to differentiate between them should be based primarily around Humans, as a plurality in this galaxy. This is my understanding of Imperial policy. I mention it only to remind the large number of Senators who seem to have forgotten this, including even Senator Veritas who, as a committee chair, is expected to reflect Imperial policy in defense matters.

Does Senator Veritas intend to address this? Or shall the debate on the measure be concluded?

I see Senator Veritas appears to be... consulting his notes, and for quite some time now. It is the opinion of the chair that he does not intend to address the criticism of Senator Cambrist. The vote is thus closed, and the measure passes with 89% in favor and 11% opposed. For the record, Senator Domon, your vote has been counted in favor of the measure. You may appeal this, of course, if I've misapprehended you.
