Senator Kuriyoshi, I appreciate your words of assurance but I'm afraid I'm not convinced. The fact of this measure, as I see it, is that it delegates power from the Senate to another body—a body that does not have the power of subpoena and the other investigative tools that the Senate does. I'm concerned that, despite your good intentions (and please, Senators, let us not question his intentions), your measure will do fatal damage to the ability of the Senate, or any independent commission, to investigate these incidents of tragic and tremendous loss of life.

Senator Fowlkes, you said a moment ago that you "believe it is a good idea to give more power to the Senate." I agree, and this is why, unless the bill is amended to make this a Senate committee, I'm afraid I must vote against it. It pains me to do so, however, especially when Senator Kuriyoshi and I share the same goal. I certainly don't vote against it for the reasons the Senators from Coruscant and Vjun have.

I think its obvious why Senator Zarcaine wants this to be an elected committee, not a Senate committee. He has 200 planets in his Cronies Mandate that will vote for him to be on the committee, and no Senators who will. its a power grab, plain and simple. He wants his own little inquisition into the Imperial military.. he wants every stormtrooper to hesitate before they pull the trigger and look over their shoulder for Senator Zarcaine's nod of the head or wag of the finger. again, behold the ego of "LORD" Zarcaine.. "cant trust the EMpire to investigate these incidents, only I can do it!" I think "the people" who Senator Zarcaine loves to speak for have more confidence in the men and women of the EMpire's armed forces than they do in some committee of cronies and celebrities that Senator Zarcaine wants to put together.

Here's Oswaldt-ism at his best. It's not just Senator Zarcaine that doesn't have enough confidence in Imperial military and navy to do the right things. It's ordinary citizens serving the Empire. If you haven't heard one objection from them, it's because they are afraid of getting shot for simply speaking out. Just because we are speaking out...it doesn't mean that we are anti-Imperial. It doesn't mean we are funding an open rebellion. Yes, former Senators Crion and Star had stepped out of line for their actions in the Senate but they wanted to speak out for their own people. Isn't that why we were elected to do? To represent our planets and to provide the best interests for the people on those planets.

Now, the comment Senator Oswaldt has made toward Senator Zarcaine is ridiculous. Senator Zarcaine is simply trying to give more rights to the citizens of the Empire, and to show that there are people within the Empire that can be trusted. To continue to put a grasp on our people, the Empire is going to eventually antagonize even the most loyal citizens. Again, Senator Oswaldt, we are not here to make ridiculous comments...we are here to debate whether this proposal is in best interests of our very own citizens.

I want this preserved in the record because i'm going to propose an immediate censure of Senator Fowlkes for his wildly seditious words and I dont want him to try to delete this from the record. You're far out of line, Fowlkes

Indeed, the Senator from Telos is called to order. Let this be a warning to all Senators that these fantastic slanders against the Empire and its armed forces must stop. I will not allow "Crionism" (wild and alarming fabrications about the Empire in the guise of "opinion") to undermine the dignity of the Senate. Nor will I permit a Senator to commit defamation in this chamber, as the Senator from Telos has done, in the opinion of the chair.

Since it appears the Senator from the Cronese Mandate has no intention of amending his bill, the debate needn't continue. The vote is now closed, and the bill is defeated with 29% in favor, 71% opposed, and additional Senators expressing disapproval but not apparently voting.
