| You call this fair? Human High Culture may be embraced by many in the Empire, but that doesn't mean the non-humans should not be treated as equal. Every sentient being, regardless of species, should be able to work at any position they desires. Telos IV votes FIRMLY against this ridiculous proposal.

| Senator Fowlkes, as Governor Oswaldt has presented it, this bill does not preclude anyone from working at any position they desire. It merely prevents the Empire from distributing tax payer funds to institutions that give preference to potential employees or students on the basis of their species.

| And without taxpayer funds, businesses or learning facilities may fail, therefore preventing those non-humans from getting an education or holding a job where they wish.
Governor, do you have any statistics as to how many, including humans, could be affected by the withdrawal of funding for businesses and education?

| Actually, Alsakan does support this. We vote in favour. Affirmitive action on any basis is discriminatory and I would like to see it rooted out so far as possible. Let selection be done on the basis of merit and ability, not on the basis of race, creed or species.
Verence Terrawin
Senator of Alsakan First Lord of the Foreign Office, Alsakan

| Surprisingly, in fact, Sluis Van is in favor of this motion too. We believe that, as Senator Terrawin stated, merit and ability should be qualifiers, not simply race.

| Quote (Tremaine_Fowlkes) Every sentient being, regardless of species, should be able to work at any position they desires
Wrong. Every being should be able to work at any position they deserve. That's what this bill is about. When you have two qualified applicants for a job, one a human and the other an alien, the government shouldn't hire the alien just because he's an alien. You call that fair? Senator Volfyr, Senator Terrawin and the others understand this. So called "affirmative action" discriminates against humans and the Empire shouldn't support it.
Quote (Ilanah_Thanatos) Governor, do you have any statistics as to how many, including humans, could be affected by the withdrawal of funding for businesses and education?
No, I don't. Because this isnt about the consequences, its about right and wrong. "Affirmative action" is wrong. Its discriminatory. Some planet wants to do it? Knock yourself out, but don't look to the Empire for support. The burden of the consequences isnt on us, its on the planets that persist with this discrimination policy.

| I'm as surprised as anyone to find myself uttering the phrase 'Governor Oswaldt's proposal is reasonable and I vote in favor of it.' Of course I jest, Governor, but not in my vote; I don't see a legitimate case for affirmative action at the Imperial level and I do indeed support this measure.
