Defense Committee Update Statement on the Lorrdian Situation

The Defense Committee remains firmly in favour of both parties finding a negotiated settlement to the Lorrd-Auril Dispute. We warmly thank both parties for agreeing a cease-fire and sitting down at the negotiations presently underway that Senator Aurelia and her Sub-Committee are presiding over.

The Defense Committee again calls for calm in the wider Galaxy, and calls upon all responsible worlds to remain neutral in this disagreement, as they appear to be doing at present. The Committee further condemns those that are at present involved in arming either party, or lending fiscal aid to them for the purposes of facilitating armament of either party while negotiations are on-going. The Defense Committee will view dimly and bring to the attention of the Senate any abuses of civilians or third parties conducted by either side of the conflict, and for that purpose we have dispatched Observers to Lorrd and Nespis VII - to whom which such abuses may be reported anonymously or publicly. The Defense Committee calls for all dealers in arms or vessels to think carefully before selling to either party, and are warned there may be consequences in the future if it is found doing so has endangered the peace.

The hiring and involvement of Mercenaries or other "Soldiers of fortune" by the Parties to the dispute or their allies is again not to be desired or encouraged. Responsible private military groups should not offer services to either party or take actions on their behalf. Parties are reminded that if their hired guns breach the ceasefire, then it will be taken as their own military doing so.

Military actions with threaten the cease-fire currently in place are inappropriate, and the withdrawal of Alsakan forces from the proximity of the Lorrdian System and Kanz Sector generally is hailed as being an appropriate action. Third parties are enjoined, encouraged and suggested not to deploy any form of military asset to either Lorrdian or Aurilite space as this will be viewed as inflaming the current tensions to no good end and making the likelihood of a negotiated settlement a more remote possibility.

The Defense Committee grants its support for the use of Imperial Forces to patrol and enforce the present ceasefire, and furthermore to remove third parties from the space of either party if they threaten the peace in the most robust manner available.

Alsakan affirms it's support for these moderate sentiments and re-states it's neutrality in this conflict, and declares that it will take steps against any world or organization in the event there are forces deployed contrary to the cease-fire. We call for peace to be given a chance by all parties and urge that no world do anything likely to exacerbate an already potentially unstable situation.

The Defense Committee could be accused of platitudinousness in these statements of the obvious.

Since when has the Defense Committee become quite so tepid? Surely a clash of arms gets the blood running?

I wonder what cost in other people's lives Senator Ordan is gleefully willing to pay for his want of a "good scrap."

Naboo heartily concurs with the statement of the Defense Committee. It also asks that a sense of urgency be reflected in the negotiations, which I'm informed have devolved into the sort of idle note-shuffling occasion that Imperial Center is, regrettably, too well known for. I fear that neither side has much confidence in the negotiations, as evidenced by trenches being dug, guns erected, and ships requisitioned throughout the Auril Sector, and Lorrd Engineering working feverishly on tanks and ships. And while Naboo appears to be alone in this, it reiterates for the record its call for Moff Shirnoq and Moff Winder to continue enforcing this ceasefire until such time as a peaceful resolution is reached.

No, Senator Vanden, Naboo is not alone. I agree with your sentiments in regards to both the cease fire and Senator Ordans apparent need for further loss of life. To get the blood pumping, was that the phrase?

In Turbo-laser; Ultima Ratio Planetarum?

I believe War is sad, but there are times when a boil must be lanced to allow the pus to be cleared away. I myself believe that the Clone Wars needed to happen, to assure the ascent of the Human race and to protect this state we love. Had there been some "overseer" to hold the CIS and Republic apart it would have facilitated the aims of the CIS.

No, Gentlemen, this is the Galaxy and we represent responsible worlds; it is our responsibility to police our own actions when it comes to warfare. Are we petulant children? Each time there is a squabble demanding the protection of nanny? Come now, let these parties not cling to nanny's skirts. A child must learn the taste of a fight, learn the taste of victory and defeat, and in these manly moments he learns much about himself. I respect a fighter who will maul his opponent and take a beating himself, who is not afraid to get stuck in.

This is A Galaxy of Wars. War all the time. That is its nature. There may be other universes based on all sorts of other principles, but ours seems to be based on war and games. All games are basically hostile. Winners and losers. We see them all around us: the winners and the losers. The losers can oftentimes become winners, and the winners can very easily become losers. Fortune spins worlds high and low, and it is not our place to interrupt the order of things by nursing the weak. In avoiding one war, at one time, you might well lay the foundations for another in the future.

The purpose of war is to support your government's decisions by force. If you wish for peace, understand war. Thus if war must come, let it come, let the blood flow in and out of the veins of the combatants and let providence decide the victor; either way, the parties are more likely to right their differences through being allowed a short and restrained war than the stream be dammed up and held back for a time, only to return with increased vigour, increased anger and increased frustration.

War can be the kindest option to all concerned, in some circumstances.

Thankfully, despite Senator Ordan's views, Lorrd has achieved peace with the Auril Sector without needing to loose further lives.
