When they entered the Imperial Palace, they drew the stares of hundreds. The thud of booted feet on the marbled surface of the Grand Corridor was unmistakable. The deep red color of the armor and the unique weapons they carried; plasma rifles and flamethrowers of a myriad of types and models, marked them as elite: the Purifiers. Jedi killers. In four distinct groups they marched; each a platoon, four deep and nine across, representing the four companies of the Purifiers. Today was an important day. Today, the Empire would see that even one of their own who had fallen so far as to be an embarrassment would be brought to task. In between the first two platoons, given space, strode two men. One was wearing clothes stained by dirt and battle, an arm missing from its cybernetic socket. This was Animus, Inquisitor, brought to face the judgement of the Emperor. Beside him strode a taller man who radiated menace as he walked; clearing the path ahead as much as the Purifiers who silently strode ahead and behind the pair. Along the Grand Corridor, conversations fell silent and then resumed in hushed whispers as eyes followed them. Down the corridor the procession strode, halting only at a point where six Royal guards flanked the entry into an unassuming turbolift door.

The ranks of Purifiers parted to allow Deschain and his charge up to the turbolift doors, where two of the red-robed guards moved to block their way, force pikes crossing in an 'x.' Deschain bowed shortly to one of the Royal Guards, picking out the apparent leader of the group with ease. "His Majesty is expecting us." The pair of force pikes came up, allowing Animus and Deschain entry into the turbolift, whose doors slid open with barely a whisper of sound. A low thrum was all that would tell them they were rising; a slight shift meaning they had moved sideways. They were going up, far up to the the top of the palace, where Emperor Palpatine's private and secluded throne room awaited them. "Do you feel fear?" Deschain asked softly as they were whisked along. "Do you tremble at the power of the Emperor? It is right and just that you should."

If there were any embellishment on the Purifiers' part of Animus' capture, they would be mistaken. Animus gave himself up without any fight at all, allowing himself to be captured. Besides, what accomplishment would Deschain's men have in capturing an Inquisitor that had not committed any treasonous activities? Maybe he had done something stupid or embarrassing to the Order of the Inquisitorus, but treason? Nope, there was no evidences at all. If this was the reason of the visit, then the dark jedi has a little to fear about.

He was walking right in the middle of all the Purifiers. Of which, he strangely felt intrigued by all the security. He still looked like crap, and that's because the precious Deschain hadn't given him enough time to clean up for His Majesty himself. No matter. If he was going to prove that he didn't commit treason, this would be as good of a position as any. The Inquisitor would recognize the Royal Guards. He had seen them around. Not often, however. Animus would get into the turbolift door both involuntarily and voluntarily with a fellow Inquisitor by the name of Deschain. He had never seen the Emperor in person, but he have had with Darth Vader before. In fact, the dark-armored Sith was the reason he joined the Inquisitorus.

Animus looked at Deschain standing right next to him. Showing no signs of resistance, he decided to sport a soft chuckle. "I can feel his presence clearly. I have the highest respect for the Emperor himself. But do I have a reason to feel fear? The only reason I would be afraid is if I am an enemy of his. LAst I checked...I am an ally of his."

There were things that Animus was not aware of; things that had occurred far beyond his level of knowledge. Animus had not committed treason, no. He was guilty of a crime almost as bad, however: embarrassing the Inquisitorious, which in turn, reflected badly on the Empire. The Empire had a public face of the stormtrooper corps and the Imperial Navy. If an embarrassment was to be made, they could get away with such much better than the secretive organizations that answered directly to Palpatine or, worse in some cases, Lord Vader.

There was an important difference in Deschain's mind that had prevented him from allowing Animus time to clean himself. Animus had a reputation for bumbling, for making a mess of things and this debacle on Tatooine had been the latest mistake in a series. Oh, to be sure, Animus had killed a few Jedi, none of them known Knights or Masters though, and furthermore, he had made no real attempt to capture instead of kill. That was a mistake; the Inquisitorious only killed Force-users when they could not be persuaded to serve the Emperor.

"You have a reason to feel fear, Trevor Fenn." Deschain's voice was soft as he faced the doors, his feet shoulder width apart and his hands clasped before him. An Inquisitor's name was not often known to those except the highest authority. Deschain's open use of Animus' real name might well be a warning sign to the man, that something was not what it seemed here. "Meditate upon it in the last few minutes you have. We go before His Imperial Majesty now." Almost as if on cue, the turbolift came to a stop with a slight jolt and the doors opened on a dimly-lit hallway that was lined with red-robed Royal Guards, all silent and impassive and forming a crimson path to the massive doors to the Emperor's throne room.

Deschain strode first from the turbolift, not worrying of Animus would follow or not. The Inquisitor had nowhere to go but before the Emperor and face what was to come. Deschain, privy in a small part of what to expect, suppressed a thrill of excitement tinged with fear. The Emperor... even Deschain could be humbled before such power. As the pair came before the immense, intricately-carved doors, they slid open soundlessly, allowing admittance, before closing shut behind them.

That's where his beliefs differ with Deschain surrounding the circumstances of the Jedi. The Jedi were much more than a simple enemy to the Empire for Animus. Unlike Deschain, he has a personal vendetta against them. He felt that the only way for himself to feel satisfied is to slaughter the Jedi rather than to capture them. He believed they deserved no mercy at all, that death would be rewarding for them. In a way, Animus is saving them from the light side. Kane was the most formidable opponent he had faced in his entire life. Palpatine and Vader didn't count because he didn't fight them.

He immediately turned his head and stared at Deschain, "I'm not Trevor Fenn. Trevor died ten years ago. I am Inquisitor Animus." Before he was about to sputter more nonsense, he stopped to think how it was possible for Deschain to know his name. Is it possible that the Emperor had told him? Only time will tell. Trevor Fenn may be his birth name, but that is not who he is now. That is someone that was a Jedi Padawan ten years during the Clone Wars. "Let's go see what His Majesty has in store for me, not that I have much choice of going somewhere else anyway. Let's get it over with." Animus spoke plainly.

The Inquisitor would do nothing but to follow a fellow dark jedi down the hallway, noticing nothing else but the infamous royal guards. Clearly, a lot of people quiver passing through the path Animus is walking on at this moment. There wasn't a lot of sounds to be made, except their conversation. The dark jedi stepped into the Emperor's throne room, looking around. "Impressive." A simple word would escape from his mouth, complimenting His Majesty's throne room.

The feel of dark-side power within the room was palpable. If there was a pure dark spot within the galaxy, it was not to be found at the center of some grasping, all-encompassing black hole. It was here, in this splendid room, seated upon a jet-black throne that looked almost bright compared to the man who sat it. Swathed in black, with yellowed eyes peering out from under a cowl of equal darkness, Palpatine was fear itself. Every nightmare that causes children to wake screaming; every terror in the deepest, secret chambers of the hearts of man or alien alike; that very embodiment sat this throne. When he spoke, his voice was a rasp so power-filled that it caused the ends of nerves to twitch. This was the power of the Sith, a foreboding blackness that the two men before him, both Jedi once, could never truly fathom. Oh, they sought for it, for their own causes, or even in his name, but a fraction of such power as he wielded, he knew, would evacuate these men from existence. That was as it should be.

Even as they entered, the men might notice something: Lord Vader was not present for this hearing. For Deschain, who spoke often of serving the Empire and Palpatine, this might not mean much, but to Animus, this could be something more. After all, the young Inquisitor had slated himself as a servant of Palpatine and Vader. Indeed, what was to be done this day was to be done without Vader having knowledge of the actions. Palpatine hardly saw need to inform his most loyal hound of what was to occur to one of the pups. An embarrassing pup at that. Palpatine's eyes narrowed as his gaze fell upon Animus; both men, if they were wise, would have been kneeling by now.

"Something you are not," Palpatine's words cut the air and for a moment, the tiny motes of dust caught in the late sunlight from the window behind the Emperor seemed to shiver. "Rise, High Inquisitor. You have done well." The piercing gaze fell once more upon Animus, the object not even worthy of Palpatine's displeasure, but annoyance. An annoyance that needed to be dealt with. "Do you know why you are here, Trevor Fenn?" The use of the Inquisitor's true name, again ringing in Animus' ears. It had been Palpatine who had spoken the two words to Deschain, as Animus had correctly surmised.

Where Animus chose to waste words and look about the throne room, Deschain observed protocol, dropping to one knee, his head bowed. Animus, if he were wise, would likely do the same. Despite his status as a detainee of sorts, Deschain knew better than to discipline Animus here in front of the Emperor. The power that emanated from the man... it was all Deschain could do to keep his thoughts focused into a razor edge. Deschain was powerful; he knew it and he'd proven it, but Palpatine was an otherworldly force to him. His part in this play was all but done, he knew, and so when the Emperor gave him leave to rise, he rose to his feet, taking a respectful step to his left and away from the center of the room where Animus was. For now, he would wait, and watch, for, not having been dismissed, he believed there was a reason for his presence still. Praise from the Emperor himself... that was worth much.

Animus could feel the power of the dark side so overwhelming coming from the Emperor. Even his power far surpasses Deschain's, what hope would there be for this dark jedi if he decided to be defiant? That is not something he would do, at least not yet. Sure, there were doubts growing inside his mind to whether the Empire had considered him as an ally. Even when he had been expressing anger toward Agent Naeva regarding the circumstances, he knew he had to cast aside those doubts until such proof were present. It took all of his concentration to hide his emotions of uncertainty, when he slowly knelt right next to a fellow dark jedi.

Palpatine's power indeed did send thousand chills up his spine, but the fact that he felt His Majesty still has uses for his services is the sole reason why he didn't cower in fear like a sniveling worm. However, the surroundings did heighten his sense a little bit. Especially when the ruler had called to him by his birth name. That statement had echoed in his head for several moments, feeling it continuously ringing within his ears. He raised his eyebrows and slowly moved his face upward to witness the Emperor's fearful face. "Forgive me, your majesty, but Trevor Fenn was a Jedi that died ten years ago. That's not who I am right now. I am Inquisitor Animus and I pledge my allegiance to you and to you alone."

He had a feeling that he would get in trouble for correcting the Emperor, as he had a reputation of giving cruel punishment to those who dare corrects him. However, it didn't mean Animus had to try and ease things up a little bit. "To answer your question, not really. I was told by Deschain over there that I has been suspected of treason."

Annoyance rapidly became the prominent expression on Palpatine's twisted face. It was annoyance that caused him to rise from his throne and begin making his way slowly down the steps to where the pair of Inquisitors waited. It was annoyance at the presumption that this... this boy would cause him to have to turn an eye and take matters into his personal hands; that he must be distracted from his own great works that would give the Sith power over the galaxy for thousands upon thousands of years to come; great works that would stamp out the memory of the foolish Jedi for all time.

"Treason," Palpatine spat the word as he came to stand above Animus, looking down on the kneeling man. "Treason would be expected. You, though, you have embarrassed the Inquisitorious. You have made a public spectacle of yourself. You have given doubt to those who know of the Inquisitorious as to whether or not the entire order can be trusted not to make a mess!

"You, Trevor Fenn are no Inquisitor. You are less than a Jedi. A Jedi would stand and fight, strike at me in his final moments. But you... no, you cower inside. I can feel it. I will not see you dead, Trevor Fenn. In life, you were an example of the lack of training of the Jedi, and an inept and unable servant of the Inquisitorious. You will still serve, but serve to warn others of the price of failure."

The ability to sever a connection to the Force had long been spoken of as a powerful Jedi ability. Palpatine, in his own quest for knowledge, had come across such and added its means and operation to his large repertoire of abilities. Taking a step back, he focused his power, his will, doing it slowly though, so as to heighten the sense of dread and punishment that was about to befall Animus. Building and building, the perverted ritual turned back and forth, almost visual in its darkness, and then released. The power shot outwards, encompassing Animus, sinking into his skin as it would be intended to cut him off from the Force itself; render him naught but another, unremarkable human being in a galaxy filled with such.

The sense that things was going to go bad had already begun, with the anger growing inside the Emperor. He had heard a lot of stories about the man in charge, enough to know where this was going. Clearly, Darth Sidious was not pleased with Animus. A lot of people that had done him a great displeasure had usually end up dead or be tortured really badly. This was going to be one of two possibilities that was going to happen. The feeling of betrayal had rapidly grew inside the fallen Inquisitor. Animus knew he could not stop the Emperor, certainly not with Deschain there as well. Especially when both of his lightsaber mastery and knowledge of the Force would be far surpassed. However, he still had the element of surprise that could still play to his favor.

Once Palpatine mentioned he was embarrassing to the Inquisitorus, the dark jedi decided to slowly building up the Force from within himself. He would make it appear like the anger was rising inside him, which was typical within most darksiders...even the Emperor himself. What had set him off the most was that the Emperor considered him lower than a Jedi, the sworn enemy the dark jedi had sworn to destroy with a vengeance. He hoped the stories he listened about the Dark Lord of the Sith would serve him well, it was said he had a repeat pattern that would indicate he was about to either torture or slay someone else. Once he mentioned that he would not kill Animus, that can only mean one thing. That was the trigger he needed to hear.

Before the Emperor would state the price of his failure and before an attack of the Force would be unleashed upon the Inquisitor, he came prepared. There was a reason Inquisitor Animus survived all those years. He may not be the best lightsaber user, or Force user for that matter, in the galaxy, but he sure knew how to escape dire situations. Enough was enough. He did not betray the Empire. The Empire has betrayed him. The fighter in him would emerge. The survival instinct within him would emerge as well. There would be a clicking sound, and immediately after, a hissing sound. That particular couple of sounds would be the unclipping of Deschain's lightsaber from the High Inquisitor's belt and the red glow coming to life right after.

It would fly in the air, heading for the Emperor. It certainly will not kill the Emperor. It was being used for another purpose. With both betrayers distracted, he took an advantage of this opportunity. Immediately after this action was taken, Animus rolled to his right before a sound of shattering would be heard. The now-rogue dark jedi would break through a window inside the Emperor's throne room and began descending toward the surface with a hope of catching a random speeder with his sole arm. That wouldn't be an easy task, but certainly far less improbable than trying to fight against both Palpatine and Deschain.

Taking Deschain by surprise was not as easy as it might have sounded. The pull of the Force from Animus was brief, but as it centered on Deschain, he reacted even as he felt the pull at his belt. Even as the lightsaber activated and sprang towards the Emperor, it was pushed aside, veering to the right of Palpatine before clattering to the floor, inert. Animus was moving now, a quick glimpse of him rolling across the floor and into one of the windows. A foolish move. He had to know that no speeders flew this close to the palace, at least not so high on a level where some passing crackpot assassin might make an attempt on the Emperor's life. Nonetheless, Deschain was moving as well. A quick leap to the window, hand outstretched to the fallen lightsaber upon the floor, a quick yank with the Force to tug it to hand, then hook to belt before looking out to spot Animus, who'd barely had a second or two to fall, then out after him. The wind whistled in his ears as he straightened his legs and tucked his arms to his side, streamlining his form so as to gain on Animus, who, having rolled wildly out the window, would be moving slower and likely trying to orient himself, especially if he had any hope of grabbing anything.

Palpatine did not flinch as the lightsaber flew at him. Even if one of his loyal subjects had not intervened, he would have dealt with the matter himself. Animus was neither faster, stronger nor smarter than Palpatine, and so he ran. He fled, proving his guilt like the coward he was. "After him!" Palpatine hissed, but Deschain was already moving. If Animus could be tracked down, he would suffer the ritual and public humiliation of being whipped through the streets as a Jedi. For now though, Palpatine, powerful as he was, could only wait and inform his guards to spread the words and Animus' description across the planet. He would not be leaving Imperial Center with any ease any time in the near future.

Patrol duty sucked, to be blunt about it. Especially patrol duty of the Imperial palace, where nothing exciting ever happened, really. Groaning in response to the growing sense of boredom welling up in his chest, Gundark stomped his way along the corridor, his attention catching; for the briefest of moments, the sight of a flailing, one-armed man rocketing down towards the underbelly of Coruscant. Following close behind was a sleeker, faster body slowly gaining speed. In response to this, the Stormtrooper uttered a mumbled "Huh," before continuing along with his day. Silly Force users and their acrobatics...

Several different sights had been seen by Animus, all while rolling rather wildly. Because of that, he was going fast but not as fast as he should be. One sight has him seeing that there was no speeders down there. That became the first flaw in his escape. He was hoping banging rather hard against a random speeder would be his escape plan. The second flaw came when he went into a different sight. That sight was a fellow Inquisitor in hot pursuit. Deschain was moving faster, a more coordinated jump clearly. The rogue dark jedi had to think up something really fast. It won't be long before he slams against the ground level.

This reminded him of a situation he was put in right after he killed his former Jedi Master a decade prior. He decided to attempt a similar move, one that many would consider borderline insane. First thing he did was to slowly build up the Force within his palms. He was still rolling several feet down, but he managed to get his cloak half off with an aid of the natural wind. It was flapping wildly in the air. It helped him balance himself a little bit, but that wasn't the purpose. Once the feet were down, straight down due to the balance his cloak was able to provide him, he raised his arm so the cloak could go off. It was heading for Deschain, of whom was pursuing closely. The back of Animus would gently pressed against the walls.

He would begin to feel the burning, due to the rate of speed the rogue was going. His body had been through a lot, what's another set of burns? Besides, he had done this before so he could tolerate this for the time being. The purpose of this was to slow himself down a little bit until he was put in position to pull off another move. Meanwhile, the palm that were pointed at the Inquisitor would launch waves of lightning. Which gives Deschain three options: A) Be encompassed by Animus' cloak, B ) being engulfed by the lightning attack, or C) Dodge himself out of the way which would put some distance between the pair.
