Your Excellency, I am sorry for any heart- or belly-ache that has resulted from the fleeting mention of you in The Coruscant Journal. I was contacted by a reporter and a friend who asked me to comment on the bombing, and I didn't feel that I possessed any information that the public didn't deserve to know. Apparently I was mistaken. The mistake was mine and will not be repeated. As for the investigation, you will find (attached) a detailed report on our progress so far, but to answer you in summary; we've reviewed holo footage and identified the probable suspect, a Corellian bounty hunter named Clive Solo who was killed in the explosion. We traced his movements on Imperial Center and found that he arrived here from Tatooine some hours before the explosion. It seems he brought the explosive device with him (the customs bureau is working on this, but so far hasn't been able to explain how this was possible). He met no one on Imperial Center, and made no calls.
We reconstructed his movements on Tatooine, however, and learned from witness interviews that he met in a bar called The Rusty Bantha with a Human, from Tatooine, named Hiram Stanthe. We have him in Imperial custody, and I've just returned from interviewing him (thus, the delay in writing back to you). He is, in my opinion, an empty lead. He says he was told by a man in a hood who gave him a package to deliver to Solo at the particular cantina at the particular time, and did so in exchange for a new saddle for his eopie. He delivered the package as instructed, but the hooded man, he says, was gone. There were no holos available of his meeting with this mystery man, and we can't be sure he even exists. As far as our interrogation methods have been able to demonstrate, though, Stanthe believes he's telling the truth. We still have him in custody for the time being, but he seems incidental, at best, to the bombing.
It's worth noting, also, that a Jedi was seen on holo footage from the scene of the explosion on Imperial Center, within moments of it. We have identified him as Kenas Annig, and I've put out a bulletin to all CSF forces to be on the look out for him. We've also warned the Senate, the Imperial Palace, and other agencies and, of course, customs to be vigilant. We're still reviewing footage in an attempt to reconstruct his movements, but the bombing occurred in an area where, unfortunately, there are few holocameras. I'll keep you updated on this if you wish, and on other individuals who were present at the blast site that I'm investigating at this time.
