Your Highness, Senator Cerra,

I am pleased to see you address a subject that is close to my heart and, I happen to know, is close to His Majesty's heart as well. That subject, of course, is education. Is there anything, but, perhaps, the defense of the Empire and its people, that is more important than the education of its children? I dare say there is not. I will confide in you, Senator, that I am personally in support of your measure and would like to see it passed as soon as possible. I am particularly fond of common standards and assessments, and the scholarship program that you have proposed. I feel that these will be valuable reforms to our education system and, what's more, they are quite compatible with the Empire's principles of centralized government as a force for good in the lives of its people. I would like to see this measure passed as soon as possible.

However, there is this unfortunate business with Representative Crion, as I know you are aware. We are all fond of Mical, and it is unfortunate to see him in this predicament. But just as "students who are a constant disruption to others will be removed from school," so too, sadly, must Mical. Schools are where the future of our children are decided. The Senate is where the future of the galaxy is decided. Disruptions in either cannot be tolerated. I would ask that you consider changing your vote on his censure so that we may put it behind us and move to matters of greater import—such as, namely, your education reform bill. Neither you or I wish to see the passage of that bill delayed, and it needn't be.

Warm regards,

Sate Pestage
Grand Vizier of the Empire
Assistant to Emperor Palpatine
Chair of the Imperial Senate

Darling Vizier Pestage,

I am sorry that you feel the Representative Crion is a constant disruption with the Senate. I have only seen him do one thing, which does not make me believe that it is a pattern or a behavior that he will be repeating in the future if he is given another chance. We must give our students chances to succeed and to do what is expected of them. If they prove to us that they cannot behave themselves. It is a pattern of behavior and Representative Crion has not exhibited this pattern of behavior.

I am sorry, but I will not and cannot change my vote on the censure issue. I must follow my heart and at the end of the day I answer to the people of Garos. I cannot disappoint my people and I hope you can understand that. We are all here to do one thing, to represent the people of our planets. If I vote with the others on the censure issue, I will let those who count on me down. I cannot, and will not do that.

I do hope you understand the position I am currently in. Please forgive me, but I truly cannot change my vote on Representative Crion’s censure.
Warmest Regards,

Ja’nar Cerra
Queen of Garos IV
Senator for Garos IV

Senator,

That is unfortunate. It is also surprising that you have not noticed this pattern of behavior from Representative Crion before. The day before his speech, he was warned (not for the first time, either) to moderate his words. Surely this is deliberately provocative behavior—a publicity stunt or, as one might refer to it in a class room, a "cry for attention." But whether in a class room or in the Senate, it was childish. It is unfortunate that you do not see this, but so be it.

If, for whatever reason, it turns out that you do wish to change your vote in the next few days, though, you are free to do so. Good day, Senator.
