A Statement on the Demolition of Tiroth

His Majesty, Emperor Palpatine, expresses his deep sadness at the loss of life that resulted from the regrettable, but necessary demolition, by orbital bombardment, of the dangerous and dilapidated "city" of Tiroth, on Balmorra. Tiroth, once a proud city in the days of the Old Republic, fell victim to Separatist turbolasers during the Clone Wars and, like so much of the galaxy in that dreadful period of war and rebellion, was largely destroyed. What remained of Tiroth, since that time, had become inhabited by criminals, who resided in the city's unstable ruins. Here, drugs and disease, and crime of all sorts, was common. His Majesty resolved that this sort of squalor should not exist in his benevolent Empire—that, indeed, his Imperial subjects deserve better. It is for that reason that the Galactic Vacant Building Demolitions company was contracted to demolish the remains of the city so that a new, prosperous Tiroth may rise in its place.

In preparation for this, Imperial forces of the Star Destroyer Impervious have been conducting, this week, an operation in Tiroth to notify the remaining population of the pending demolition, and to re-locate them to humane, temporary housing where food, water, and medical supplies would be provided to them. We were dismayed but, sadly, not surprised to find that criminal elements in the city resisted this noble effort; indeed, many of His Majesty's stormtroopers were killed fighting with those criminals, drug dealers, etc. who propagate anarchy and squalor for their own personal, financial gain. Many of these criminals perished in the demolition of Tiroth, which is now complete. While the Empire was successful in re-locating most of the other residents of Tiroth, some of them, regrettably, refused to leave and they, too, perished. The Empire did what it could for these poor, misguided individuals, and His Majesty mourns their loss.

There was, to be clear, no "rebellion" in Tiroth. To the extent that there was, it was a rebellion against progress, perpetrated by criminals who would have us return to the chaos of the Clone Wars. This, the Empire will not abide—for unlike the Old Republic, the Empire does not neglect its people. It cares for them and defends them, and will continue to do so long after a new, prosperous city of Tiroth has been built over the ruins of the old. Let this symbolism not be lost upon us, citizens. Let us put the folly of the Clone Wars, and the tragedy of this incident, behind us. Let us instead look to the bright future that His Majesty promises to all who accept his benevolent reign.
