To the Senator and Government of Vjun,

I have gone over the treaty with key members of the Prefecture of Volus and am sending this to inform you that we have no intention of joining this treaty with you. While provisions of this measure would appear, upon first glance, to be reasonable, there is language in this treaty that forces us to decline.

Firstly, while you are more than welcome to come and establish an embassy on Volus, we have no intention of allowing another planet to dictate our laws and regulations nor do we offer free reign of placing soldiers wherever another power wants. It does not make for good policy or indeed good governance to surrender sovereignty in such a manner.

Secondly, to add to the moot point, the security of myself and my family is in no way in danger. We are protected by the best that Volus has to offer in terms of both security and personnel.

Thirdly, and I feel, with your senator's recent remarks before the senate, I must emphasize this point: Volus is more than capable of dealing with our own security and space. If you wish to refer to the recent incident with the Vjun space station, while tragic as it was, Volusian ships arrived in exceptional time after receiving the distress call. To which point, I am sure, Moff Assange will likely agree if you were to ask him.

For further questions on possible diplomatic relations please send them and I will promise you that they will receive their due consideration.

Sincerely,
Loton Motour
King of Volus

To the People of Volus,

The People of Vjun thank you for your invitation to establish an embassy on Volus, and we will do so in the next few weeks. Please accept my assurances that I have not criticised your response time, and while many feel it to be inadequate, that is not the view of myself of my staff, please also accept my heartfelt thanks for the assistance rendered.

We do hope that the situation on Volus stabilises and that Volus is able to reestablish law and order within its system and surrounds in the coming weeks, if it should ever be required the Vjunite Science Commission fighters in the area will be more than happy to assist the repulsing of any further criminal activity, let it not be said that Vjun is without love for Volus!

We would like to convey my personal commiserations for your Senator's poor performance in "Chrono" Magazine's ratings tables, and wish her the best of luck in perhaps passing some legislation during the next year.

On a lighter note, I hope you will see your way to supporting the Emplacement of a Golan 1 by our government near your system, the extra 24 fighters in the vicinity of Volus provides us with a unique chance to assist eachother militarily should the need arise, and I can assure you that should ever the people of Volus call for help, the People of Vjun will be glad to fly to your aid as speedily as you have done to ours.

We would also be happy for you to place an observer aboard the station, should you wish to do so.

Sir Henry Sturgess-Smythe
Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Expansion Region, Baronet Weatherbry, etc.

To Sir Henry Sturgess-Smythe
I would like to thank you for your gift and will be sending a special case of Volusian Ale and cigars.

However, another point which must be emphasized, Law and Order is still firmly entrenched on Volus as is our stability. I do not know which rumors you and your senator have been reading but let me assure you they are quite false. We have, indeed, seen an increase of piracy attempts in our space, but they have all been quickly dealt with and lasted little more than a few minutes. It is not a problem with Volus, but rather a problem of stupidity for the pirates. However, let me assure you further that proper procedures have been enacted to indeed make any further acts of piracy near Volus an act of suicide.

We will trust that Moff Assange will provide for proper supervision of the base however, in regards to an earlier offer we would offer to send a group of our own scientists to aide in the future scientific endeavors of the station.

With Regards,

Loton Motour
King of Volus
