| We, the below signed Senators, with all due respect to Governor Ribaldequin and the venerated position that he holds as the appointed representative of His Majesty on Deralia, are compelled to question the wisdom and the necessity of a number of actions recently undertaken by the Governor, and we respectfully decline his gracious invitation in objection to these actions; among them, 1.) the Governor's mode of "rule by decree," often without apparent consultation with the planet's government or respect for the opinions of its people—a mode of rule that, wherever it occurs, can only engender hostility from a people who feel as though they are disenfranchised, 2.) the drafting of Humans on Deralia, including women and children, into a compulsory "Labor Corps" with or without their consent, without apparently having attempted to procure labor from elsewhere in the sector, or offered to the people of Deralia more generous terms of employment—this, too, can only engender hostility among a people who may see this interruption of their lives as an affront to their dignity, and of their rights as Humans which the Empire endeavors to uphold, and 3.) the dumping of waste in the planet's polar regions without apparent consideration of the environmental and economic consequences of this, and while other planets in the sector are better-suited to this purpose (such as the uninhabited, volcanic world of Shola). Questions also remain about the wisdom of Ribaldequin's appointment as Governor, as he is both a relative of the Moff who appointed him and is also descended from a Deralian emperor and could thus, potentially, have a claim upon the Deralian throne. The conflict of interest is apparent to see. All of these, in our opinion, tend to the disruption of the social, cultural, and political fabric of a world whose people and government have demonstrated a consistent dedication to the Empire. We do not wish this upon Deralia as we would not wish it upon our own worlds, whose Governors do not condone the conduct of Governor Ribaldequin, nor, indeed, conduct themselves in his manner. Thus, we decline, with all due respect, Governor Ribaldequin's invitation, until such time as he can be persuaded to pursue a course of moderation and respect for Deralia, its government, and its people. We hope that His Majesty will assist in persuading him, as it is our fear that engendering unnecessary hostility among the people of Deralia may not only tend to disorder on Deralia, but is also an unhelpful message to send to other worlds in encouraging them to demonstrate the same dedication to the Empire that Deralia has consistently shown.
