Senator Thanatos,

I appreciated the consideration you gave to my arguments against Senator Oriel's proposal and I'm pleased that you found them persuasive, and though the bill did pass I also appreciated your vote against it. It occurs to me that we may be more like minded than I once thought, and it occurs to me also that I've been uncharitable to you in our previous correspondence and for that I apologize. I've been called impulsive and I admit to a habit of speaking in haste. But I would like very much to work with you on capital ship regulation and other issues in the coming weeks, and to repair any rifts I may have caused between us.

I hope you're well. Best regards.

Eli Fitzgerald
Senator of Ralltiir (10 BBY—Present)

Please, Senator Fitzgerald, in an informal forum, you may call me Ilanah. I find that formality is trying between friends, and would rather not have that strain on top of what has already started out and proven to be a rocky path. I was unforgivably rude to you, so my apologies are also offered. I realize now that you were only trying to help, but the wound is still so fresh.

Your ideals are much like my own, but I am not so brave as you to speak as boldly. My predecessor left our people in a tight spot and I would not like to follow in her footsteps and have them punished further for misdeeds that are not their own. Chandrilans are a peaceful race, you know that, and do not deserve the ire of the Empire.

I admit that I struggled with the decision to vote for the Capital Ships Act, and initially it did seem pleasing, until you spoke your peace. I trust your words and value your opinion very highly, which is why I did change my vote, despite the addition that Senator Oriel added at the last minute in order to sway me back. I did not feel it fair to my people to change my vote simply on that. Especially since I received a communication from the Chairman of the Defense Committee just today in regards to obtaining vessels for my beautiful planet.

I look forward to seeing you soon, Senator.

Ilanah

Ilanah R. Thanatos
Senator of Chandrila
