Subject: Vjun
Greetings,
I am sure you have seen my face in the public but let me formally introduce myself. I am Senator Fowlkes of Telos IV. Your most recent editorial regarding the surroundings of Vjun had caught my attention. If what you had written in your editorial is true, then there is a possibility that Vjuni planetary government and the Empire is neglecting the local natives. There is also a possibility that since you called the Empire out, you could be undergoing some scrunity. I would like to meet you to both better protect you from the Empire's "clamps-down" policy and to help people of Vjun. To ensure there is no public interference, I would like to invite you to my personal home on Telos IV. Rest assured, I will arrange for a transport and cover all travel expenses for you should you accept my invitation. What do you say, Mr. Cochrane?
Regards,
Tremaine Fowlkes Senator of Telos IV

| Senator Fowlkes,
I've followed and admired your work in the Senate. I'd be pleased to meet with you on Telos IV, however, I feel my journalistic integrity may be compromised should Telos IV make my travel arrangements for me; I'd rather pay for this myself, I hope you understand. Having written about Vjun, I can justify my visit to Telos IV as part of a series of articles on the constituencies of prominent senators such as Senator Oriel and yourself. I'd like very much, during my visit, to have access to Telosian officials and government figures on employment, poverty, etc. It's my personal opinion that your government has ruled its world benevolently and, perhaps, hasn't received the credit it deserves for having done so. A report on this, particularly in contrast to my report on Vjun, would serve to extoll the virtues of a more democratic form of governance. Though, I must stress, as a journalist I must approach the subject matter without preconceptions and report on them as I see them. As I do so, however, I would be pleased to meet with you to discuss the plight of the people of Vjun and the subject of good governance.
As for the danger to myself, I'm not concerned. You must be aware, as I am, of the rumors of the Empire "silencing" those who oppose it. But these don't trouble me, because the Empire could do no greater service to my work than to "silence" me through some coercive and permanent means and thus draw attention to my work. I'm optimistic, however, that the Empire is not what some have made it out to be, and that on the occasion of its 10th anniversary it will reconsider its priorities and pursue a more democratic course. If my writing can contribute at all to bring this about, I will consider myself, and the people of Vjun and many other worlds, fortunate.
I will talk with you soon, Senator. Thank you for your invitation. I am pleased to accept.
Sincerely,
Bart Cochrane, Reporter The Coruscant Journal
