Mr. Vega,

I understand, of course, that you are no longer with RimCo, but it is said that you still have influence among its board members. Brentaal does too, of course, as the largest shareholder in the company, but I would like to ask if you could apply a personal touch to our attempt to lobby RimCo's board of directors on a particular issue.

The situation in the Sluis Sector, and on Praesitlyn in particular, has become unpalatable to the prospectors who have invested their time and money there. They hold de facto resource rights to considerable tracts of land on the planet (primarily carbon, also lumber, etc.), but, as you know, the extraction of these resources has been complicated by racial hostility and, now, shady acts of violence. The prospectors, and the government of Brentaal, have no confidence in the ability of "Khedive" Thisst to keep Praesitlyn safe, so an improvement of the security conditions there is necessary.

This will require either a significant investment of funds on the part of the prospectors or the commitment of more ships from Brentaal's defense fleet to a sector far from Brentaal, to repel "hit-and-fade" attacks potentially in perpetuity. The prospectors don't have the resources to do this, and my government doesn't have the desire.

As a solution, I suggested to the prospectors—and they've agreed and asked me to pass it along to you—that they offer to sell their resource rights to RimCo at a preferential price, as well as the contracts with their employees, and the property rights to all of their existing infrastructure. They're "cashing out," as it were—the situation is simply too dangerous for them, despite the vast value of the resources on Praesitlyn. But with RimCo's fleet operating out of Sluis Van and RimCo having other mining operations throughout the sector, I have no doubt it would be able to retard any further racial attacks, verbal or otherwise.

If you could assist us in making this case to RimCo's board of directors on behalf of Brentaal, we would be grateful. (And we'll compensate you for your lobbying, if necessary).

Regards,

Senator Cambrist,

Forgive the delay, but I was reluctant to write to you without results. However, I do have results for you, having done as you asked and represented Brentaal's position on this issue to RimCo's board of directors. The board has agreed to the terms and will purchase the resource rights and mining infrastructure on Praesitlyn. It's my understanding that the board is negotiating with your prospectors as we speak.

Mind you, Senator, while I did this as a favor to a man who has done favors for my career, as it is not my job to lobby on behalf of Brentaal it would be best for ethical reasons for me to be reimbursed for having done so, at the going rate for this sort of lobbying service.

Regards.
