| Dear Administrator Ray,
I'd like to propose we de-mobilize our Refited Haven-class Customs Station (formerly a medical station) and just have it used as an orbital granary/storage unit, removing all weapons and so on.
At the same time, I'd like to purchase one of these new XQ-O Platforms. This would allow us a better base from which to launch a couple of squadrons of snubfighters if we can get a hold of them. They're big enough to act as a much better customs station, not badly armed and have lots of landing space around. It'd fit great alongside our Defense Monitor and would be compatible to dock with it.
I propose the new XQ-O would be mostly civilian (with civilian landing pads, stores, hotels and bars onboard) and orbit the capital in a Geostationary manner. We'd also have the customs office aboard (transfered from the Haven-class) and a few starfighters if we can wrangle them up. Perhaps you could propose a motion to donate some older Republic era ones to us? Or just ask for donations - we only need 36 to have the platform full and operational.
The crew requirements for this platform would be higher, and would require us to transfer some of the ground based Professional Khoonda Militia units into the System Defense Militia to allow us to do so.

You'll have to forgive me if I'm not fully onboard with this plan. Granted, ever since appointing you to the position of Militia General, we have been able to balance out a basic defense budget on level with our current overall budget for the planet. I'm not too comfortable on putting another space station in orbit around Dantooine without either:
1. Disabling the Haven-class completely, selling it to the highest bidder.
2. Appealing to the Senate for a grant in order to keep up the cost of the Haven-class.
The Haven-class is Dantooine's current storage for food stuffs. As I'm sure you remember, the Humanitarian Reserves Act that I introduced and passed in the Senate requires Agricultural planets to hold a storage of foodstuffs. Getting rid of this would force me to construct a site planet-side, which would come with greater risks then keeping the station in space.
And as far as the Militia, unfortunately, they are not Marines, General. When they first were assembled, they were regulated as the planet's ground-based military/police force. Until numbers rise, I am not willing to put them into space.
