| Vanden may have been a pacific man who, indeed, came from a world of pacifists, but he knew when someone was trying to intimidate him, and didn't like it. True, he had meant only to be protective of Ja'nar, but this involved both of them and, in fact, involved more than both of them; this had to do, now, with how elected officials or indeed any citizens were treated in the Empire. Vanden didn't consider himself a rebellious man, but for the first time, he felt like one. "I am only combative when I am accosted by armed men who do not identify themselves," Vanden said, tersely. He would never fight anyone, of course, but if he would it surely would have been Aethyr Dakkari. If not when he poked him with his finger, than when he invoked his relationship with Ja'nar. It was a good thing Vanden was already mad, so there would be no visible reaction to this. But in his mind, he wondered how it was possible that Imperial Intelligence knew about what had happened. It had occurred in one of the Senate offices, which weren't supposed to be monitored, in theory. It had been late that night—no one else would have seen them. Had Ja'nar told others about it? How many? Who had they told? Or, Vanden thought, Aethyr was guessing. He sighed. "No," he agreed, "there's no need to involve the Vizier now." This was more out of concern for Ja'nar than for himself. He was a recent widower; it would look bad for him, of course, but not terribly. But he had heard recently that Ja'nar had a child, and Vanden wouldn't want to bring this kind of public scrutiny upon her family. "Shall we go to my office?" he suggested, and shot a clandestine look at Ja'nar that, for whatever reason, made it clear that his office would be preferable to hers. He had something in mind—something mischievious.

| Ja’nars stood in front of the two men watching them bicker back and forth, until of course it turned to her integrity as senator and a person. Treason? “Whoa, wait a minute; let us back up here for a moment, treason? On what grounds, with what evidence?” This completely caught Ja’nar off guard. She had not expected this to be the reason of Aethyr’s visit. She took in a deep breath as she brought her hand up to brush a few strands of hair back from her eyes. Then came the kicker…her and Vanden, her face went bright red, not with embarrassment but with anger. Few had ever seen Ja’nar angry. She was known for being a very calm and composed young woman. “How dare you, how dare you even imply there is any affairs between Mister Vanden and myself. And how dare you accuse of me teaming up with him within the senate to squash Imperial motions and proposals. What I do within the senate is done on my own accord. It is what I feel is right for the people of this empire.” She was almost trembling with anger as she tried to calm herself down. Ja’nar would turn her back on them both as she continued to take in deep breaths. This was supposed to be an easy assignment. It was suppose to be a break from ruling an entire planet. This was supposed to allow her time to breath, and it was turning into everything else but that. She would take in one more breath before turning back to the men. “Your office sounds wonderful” she says softly as she regained her normal, calm façade. “Lead the way you two” she says softly as she motions for them to move onward. Her hand dropping to her side, the other resting gently on her stomach.

| "Rather modest. . . collection." Aethyr said, they'd been standing there for several minutes in complete silence while the agent had seemingly eyed over every possession the Representative had stowed away. He wasn't a fan. "So, where had we concluded?" His voice stabbed once more. Gentle strides brought him forward, deeper in to the office. From an inner-pocket of his heavy jacket his hands produced a small holorecording device. However he opted not to play the content it held, quite yet. "Ah yes, I must apologize. You see, " lazily he fumbled the device between his palms, looking neither at Vanden or Cerra. But straight forward through the viewport at the sprawling city scape of this truly amazing world. "I'm not here to be the bad guy. I'm not here to. . . conduct a Jedi hunt, or force your hand in to anything." His eyes began to wander towards Ja'nar, undressing her delicate curves from head to toe. He hoped Vanden noticed. The gesture, while not completely obvious, held his hope that Vanden may take note. The Senator could squawk all she wanted, but Aethyr knew a relationship had been there, and their feelings for one another were all too telling just from their body language alone. "But you must understand, even if it's only the faintest whisper of treason or incompetence, it must be met head on before it can become a festering wound within the ranks." Leaning forward he settled the recorder down on to Vandens desk. Thumbing it's playback memory, the broadcast of the budding Rebel Terrorist Group The Monnok began to play

| Ja'nar followed the men into Vanden's office, it had been a long time since she last visited this room. She would let out a sigh as she listened Aethyr speak, her eyes never leaving the device he had in his hands as she leaned casually against a bookcase, her left shoulder against the dark wood, and her right hand gently rubbing her stomach as she watched oh so carefully. She couldn't but help think that this evening was going to end in a most horrible way, and then the man spoke, she would let out a groan "You are conducting a witch hunt and you know it." she spoke softly once more, with an even voice. She had regained herself which was a good thing. "Just because I am not a lifeless drone like most of the senators does not mean I am plotting against the empire. Anyone would be a fool to do that." She would shake her head, she knew it was useless to argue with the man, and then she heard it...the recording another groan escaping her slightly parted lips. "What in the gods name is that?" she asks looking to Aethyr. The look in her eyes was of true bewilderment. She was stunned to hear someone speaking her name in a broadcast, let alone a broadcast for the rebels. She would glance to Vanden for a moment "Did you know about this? Why didn't any of MY people bring this to my attention?" Now she was truly worried. This could be disasterous for her, for her planet, for her son. She moved to take a seat, the color having drained from her face a bit as all the horrible things that could come of this played over and over again in her mind. It was racing, anyone who looked at her would know it was the first time she had heard this broadcast.

| "No," Vanden answered her, honestly. "I haven't heard it." He stood, hands in his pockets, radiating distaste not so much at the recording, but at Aethyr's seeming 'search' of his office. Not that he minded so much—the Representative had nothing to hide. Including, as it happened, this conversation with Aethyr. He had glanced at his secretary, Meeva Tarpals, on the way in and had nodded to her, seemingly, but also to the comm on her desk. She nodded in turn, and would be listening in on the conversation (but not recording it. That would be illegal). She had undoubtedly presumed something was wrong from the way the Representative had taken his leave of her in the corridor only a few moments ago. Now, if necessary, Tarpals could bring in Vanden's secret weapon against Aethyr. Hopefully it would not be necessary, however. "I haven't heard it," he said again, glancing deliberately at Aethyr, "Because I don't listen to propaganda. I've not heard of this monnok.. thing. I'm afraid, actually, that I don't even see the problem. I am a public figure, Mr. Dakkari, and people say things about me and Senator Cerra." He hadn't meant it like that, but he went on. "Good things, bad things—that is their right. Surely, Imperial Intelligence would not fall for the association fallacy." He approached his decorative, wooden desk and leaned upon it. "Do please sit down," he suggested. His office was a modest one, compared to most others; it was decorated in mostly earthy, green hues, adorned with a combination of Gungan pottery and pastoral paintings of Naboo. With a pair of ferns in the office and a hanging plant in the waiting room, it seemed much more alive than the grey confines of Coruscant visible through the viewport. Outside, at the base of the viewport, was a device that Vanden had contrived himself—a shallow trough, filled with water, with a mirror at the bottom that reflected rippling sunlight into the office. It had been assembled for him by an artisan from Theed. His guests would note, also, that an air conditioner kept the room pleasantly cool. "And I must agree with Senator Cerra," Vanden said, glancing at her fleetingly, before glaring once more at Aethyr. He had indeed noticed the man's improper stare at Ja'nar, and it would be dishonest of him to say that it didn't bother him. But Vanden was a cool customer, and his disgust with Aethyr wouldn't show in his face or in his body language. Except, of course, for his professional disgust with the man. That much was quite apparent. "Just because we are like minded inviduals doesn't mean that we are 'conspiring' to vote a certain way," he went on, "And today, as I recall, I supported the ultimatum to Carratos. There is one issue, at least, where the Senator and I did not agree." That wasn't entirely true, of course. Vanden was as repulsed by the ultimatum to Carratos as Ja'nar was, but he had particular reasons not to show it. Reasons that would become apparent soon enough. "Mr. Dakkari, I am curious," he said, "What exactly is Destabilization Branch's interest in me and the Senator?" It was clear that he was referring to their relationship, although he didn't say so. He knew better than to confirm or deny it to this man, of all people. Not until Vanden knew what he knew. He made a surreptitious glance at Ja'nar. She seemed so distressed at this, he wanted only to put his arm around her and tell her that it would be all right—and to punch Aethyr Dakkari from here to the Column Commons. But he could do neither. Not now.

| "Well you see, Representative. You're not being pointed at because you're guilty of being a member of the Galactic Empire." He began, "So for one to assume this entire process could even be considered an association fallacy, would be a rather startling admission that you are indeed a part of this Monnok group." Clicking his tongue once, he brought his gaze with lifted brow, down upon Representative Vanden. "Allow me to recite a quote, incase you chose not to pay full attention to the recording I've just played with you." 'But as long as there is Ja'nar Cerra of Garos IV and Artemis Vanden of the Naboo, perhaps there is still hope. These two, as well as Bail Organa of Alderaan and Garm Bel Iblis of Corellia, continue to be lonely voices of reason in the Imperial Senate. But remember, they may stop the Empire's agenda, but only we can stop the Empire, together.' He glanced over towards Ja'nar, then back to Vanden. He was right to wonder why Destabilization was sent in to handle this matter. There duties were mostly spoken about in rumor. And none of those whisperings ever had a happy ending. But really, who better to handle this? He thought silently for a moment. After allowing them both a small pause of time to mull the words over he spoke once more. "But remember, they may stop the Empire's agenda, but only we can stop the Empire." He repeated, paying no heed to the offer of sitting. "They may stop the Empire's Agenda." The words once more. A gloved hand snaked through the neat comb of his black hair, patience beginning to wear thin. "Therein lies the problem, Representative. Since I have arrived you have shown me no less reason to suspect either of you for this treason." His voice was uncharacteristically calm, almost frighteningly so. "You have shown me zero accommodation in my inquiry process, but have instead battled me with a commanding rhetoric, you do have a gifted tongue, I commend you for this." He said slowly. "But you have not dettered, nor fooled me to believe otherwise. Just as you have tried, but failed to hide that the lovely Ja'nar Cerra holds a commanding fist around your beating heart. " Gingerly his palm came to rest over his own heart, pressing firmly. "But I assure you, Represenative. . . and you Senator. My heart beats only for this so-called. . . Imperial Agenda. The one which is peace and prosperity. And if you were to call your 'vote' on the dangerous situation we face at Carratos a show of good faith. . . I laugh. Never have I heard a more forced speech." While it most definately would not be legal to ask these two for a show of good faith in the name of the Empire. He hoped that one most definitely would find it's way to the surface, and soon.

| Vanden rolled his eyes mightily at Aethyr's reference to his supposed 'admission' to being part of this monnok.. thing. Vanden genuinely hadn't heard of it, but he certainly didn't feel implicated by it. Was he flattered that someone thought he was 'stopping the Empire's agenda'? Perhaps, but it was, sadly, not true. So far, everything he had voted against had passed the Senate anyway. "I don't think it should come as a surprise to anyone that a propaganda broadcast doesn't have its facts straight, Mr. Dakkari," Vanden told him, "I'm surprised you regard it as a reliable source of information. Needless to say, some rebel propagandist somewhere has no more credibility on my motives than, say, a homeless man on the street. And I do not propose to take seriously the ramblings of every homeless man on the street, either." He shrugged. "I haven't given you any less reason to suspect me of treason because there isn't any reason to suspect me of treason, or Senator Cerra. I would like to help you, Mr. Dakkari, but there is nothing less than zero." He stood, rounded his desk, and retrieved a mug of water that he'd left there earlier. He had it halfway to his mouth when Aethyr implied a relationship with Ja'nar. Again. He doused the fire within him with a deliberate drink of the water, then set the mug down and crossed his hands over his chest. "I'm sorry my speech was not to your taste," he said, "Yours was.. moving. But I would certainly hope you didn't come here only to make speeches and vulgar insinuations about me and Senator Cerra. If there's something you want, Mr. Dakkari, I suggest you be out with it so you can go about the business of finding real traitors."

| Ja’nar sat in one of the cozy chairs in front of Vanden’s desk her left leg tucked neatly under herself as she stared out the window at the cityscape that stretched for eternity. She had always liked Vanden’s office. It was a cozy little place, much nicer than her office. Her office was cold and impersonal. It was that way for a reason, to keep people out of it and to keep her personal life just that, personal. Now it seemed though that Vanden did not value privacy as much as she does. He had to have told someone about their few meetings they had during her last term as senator for Garos. She had only told two people and both of them would never speak of it. She trusted those two people with her life; she knew they would not go around running their mouths. Ja’nar was only partially listening to the two boys going back and forth with each other. She was trying to figure out how to keep her son safe. What she should do about him. Perhaps it was time to send him away, to allow an old family friend to care for him. Ja’nar would die if anything happened to the little one. He was her heart and her life even though she had to be so far away from him at the moment. In her mind she knew what she had to do and would set it all up when she got out of here this evening. She would shake her head for a moment as she snapped out of her dazed state. Her eyes focusing on Aethyr and Vanden once more. She had an iron fist around Vanden’s heart? What? She would glance to Vanden, her deep brown eyes studying his form for a long moment. Did she? Did he still have feelings for her? It had been a very short lived affair with long lasting effects it seemed, but did he love her? She would shake her head for a moment, of course not. It was silly talk by Aethyr. Ja’nar would bring her hand up to her head “Can we please stop this? Nothing is going to be accomplished this evening; your egos are getting in the way.” She would glance to the both of them “I have been nothing but accommodating. I have no issue speaking with you Sir as long as you can do so in a respectful manner.” She would glance to Vanden for a moment, she had nothing major to hide, well nothing other people would think as major. So what if she had given birth to Vanden’s child? “Nothing we say will change your mind. You will think whatever you wish whether it be true or not…and in this case, it is not. I know for a fact that I have no idea about that recording or the group who released it, but you have already judged the both of us.”

| Thus, Aethyr had concluded that while the two of them were together, he would never be able to twist this situation in fully to his favor. Vanden had surprisingly managed to maintain a very collected head, despite the rather lazy effort on Aethyr's part to unsettle the man. But the dots had all been connected. Though it did appear Ja'nar was weathered and strong, she had shown here today that mentally, she was weak. With the right leverage, and proper setting, he knew she would bend. . . she would break. And only then could Vanden be herded in. "You are quite right, Senator." Aethyr murmured, "It has become very clear that nothing will be accomplished this evening." Gently his palm came to close upon Ja'nar's left shoulder, the tips of his gloved fingers tenderly pressing in to her flesh. "As unfortunate as it may be, I am required elsewhere in the Galaxy for the next several days." Gingerly he released her, "In that time I ask that you do not leave Coruscant, Senator Cerra. I'll require that you and I meet upon my return, " He paused for a long moment, settling his gaze once more onto Vanden. "In private." With careful and calculated steps Aethyr had turned and carried himself towards the door of Representative Vanden's office. Lobbing an unseen glare towards the man. "As for you, Representative Vanden, we'll meet again after your diplomatic trip to Carratos. . . and I do say, be careful." Pushing onwards, his back now fully to the both of them. "We wouldn't want nothing ill to become of you."

| Ja'nar would feel his touch as she let out a soft sigh, closing her eyes for a moment. It had been a long time since any man had truly touched her besides her doctor and he didn't count. "Of course, though you must understand I may be needed on Garos but I can be back here within half a day if need be" she says softly. She was never unwilling to speak with the man, she had nothing to hide except for Vanden's son. She would glance to Vanden, she was tired and it showed, it was the first time that her smile had truly faded and that sparkle, the gleam in her eyes that she was known for was withering away each second.

| Vanden, watching Aethyr leave his office, understood in that instant why the man traveled with bodyguards even here in the Senate. If he didn't, even Vanden—a pacifist from a world of pacifists—would be tempted to deliver his fist to Aethyr's jaw. He was angry at the man's condescending words to him, angrier at his condescending words to Ja'nar, but angry, also, that Ja'nar seemed so compliant with his demands. Who was he to tell a Senator, or any innocent person, where she could or could not go? It wasn't a matter of inconvenience, it was a matter of principle. Vanden would not see his rights trampled on, or the rights of anyone (especially the people he cared for). As soon as the man was gone, and Meeva had confirmed this over the intercomm, Vanden thanked her and found himself glancing about the office at anything that wasn't Ja'nar. It occurred to him, then, that Aethyr might have left behind a surveillance device during his perusal of the room. The Representative had another flash of anger—this wasn't a thought that he should ever have to entertain. Eavesdropping on a delegate from Naboo would be quite illegal, but with Aethyr's demeanor, it wouldn't surprise Vanden if he did it anyway. But he would deal with this later. For now, he took a step behind his desk (the formidable, wooden furnishing seeming to emphasize the barriers, literal and metaphorical, between him and Ja'nar). He retrieved his water mug and drank from it once more, then cleared his throat. "Are you all right?" he asked the Senator.

| Ja’nar had been attempting not to cause trouble or give a reason for anyone to become more suspicious of her, if that was possible at all. Apparently she had already done something to warrant Aethyr’s attention. She was not quite sure what to think of that. Was this a good thing or a bad thing? She was not sure but it was a bit flattering. No one usually suspected her of anything. Most on the imperial center had written her off as a young, immature senator who would do nothing. They had been wrong. She attempted not to look at Vanden. She was unsure of what he was up to. She rarely trusted anyone and Vanden at one point had almost gotten into her small circle. He had been successful enough to make it to her senatorial apartment, but no further than that. Her apartment was void of anything truly personal. He had not been allowed into the inner circle. She had worked hard to keep him at arms length so that he would not get frustrated and leave. But in the end is was she who left him. She had become so scared, so freaked out about many things between. Ja’nar would look to him for a moment as his words reached her and registered in her mind. She would force a small smile as she nodded her head “Of course Vanden” she whispered softly “You know me, I am always alright.” She would move to push herself up to her feet once more, “I was wondering if you could get me in contact with your son.” It was a simple request and she was sure Vanden would know why a senator, who was currently being looked into would want the help of a man such as Davon. “I have some items that need to be brought in from Garos.” Her eyes would rest on him for a moment. She missed having someone who she could be close to, she at times even admitted to missing him.

| 'Vanden' again, he thought to himself, hiding his frown in his mug as he took another drink of water. It was more anger this time than pain; perhaps Aethyr had monopolized his animosity for the last few moments, and now that he and Ja'nar were alone he was roused to the anger—uncommon to so mild a man—that would forever shade his memories of her. Still, he could not deny that he was concerned for her, too. She had been treading on perilous ground in the Senate of late, and Vanden suspected that Aethyr's harassment of her had something to do with it. He didn't have long to think on this, however, before Ja'nar mentioned his son. "What?" he said, "Oh. Davon." Today, it seemed, was full of unpleasant memories. Davon, his only son. Vanden had lost him not long after he'd lost his wife. But Moira had no choice, he thought, darkly. Not wanting to lose the most important thing left in his life, Artemis had been too possessive of his son who was, then, at a rebellious age. And so Davon had gone, and Artemis hadn't heard from him since. He had heard of him, of course—apparently he was a smuggler now, and had landed in prison from time to time. When he did, Artemis dutifully wired him his bail. But never in three years had they seen one another, or spoken. It wasn't only concern for his career that led Artemis not to seek him out, either; he also felt that it was Davon who had wronged him, and that he had nothing to apologize for. The same could probably be said for Davon. Perhaps stubbornness ran in the family. Vanden, apparently, was surprised enough that Ja'nar would mention his son that he could not immediately fathom why she had done so. "Why?" he asked her. He sounded wary, despite his attempt not to. She needed a smuggler, he supposed, but why? Was she, for want of a better phrase, up to something? And was this the reason Aethyr had come?

| Ja'nar would move to push herself up to her feet, her gown falling into place around her as she runs her hands along the silk fabric. She would take in a deep breath of air as she looks up into his eyes for a moment, "why?" she asks softly as she takes a moment to think about this question as she moves over to the windows, looking out at the city before her. It was a beautiful sight, the lighs sparkling throughout. She would let out a sigh "I have some very sensitive cargo that needs to be brought here" she says softly. She doesn't look at him again though as she keeps her eyes on the city. She didn't want to explain what she needed to have brought in. The less people who knew the better and she was not sure who she could trust, though she felt like she could trust Vanden, at times atleast. Though she was unable to read him and had given up on trying. She didn't know how he felt about her anymore. It had been years. He had needed to be close to be close to somone and Ja'nar....Ja'nar had needed to same thing, she had needed to feel as if someone truly cared about her and he gave that to her. He had shown her that. He had shown her how to love, when she had not loved any others before, and not many since. There had men in the last few years though none had lasted long, a few had stayed around though. Milliardo had been a great friend, that had happened to share her bed a few times, but it had never developed into anything deeper. It was a casual relationship that ended in a lasting friendship. She would sigh softly, "What is happening to us Vanden?"

| "I've wondered that, Cerra," he said to Ja'nar, setting his mug down on his desk and picking up his datapad instead. He spared no glance to her as he browsed it for his contacts. "But not recently," he muttered. Vandross. No, he had missed it. Vandron, no. Vandike, no. Vanden, Davon. He had the number, but he hesitated a moment. The more he considered this, the less he liked it. She was moving some "sensitive cargo" to Coruscant. It was something she needed a smuggler for. That is, it was something she didn't want the authorities to know about. That was none of Vanden's business, of course, except that she could choose any number of smugglers that weren't Artemis Vanden's son to do her dirty work—if dirty work is what it was. Whatever it was, it was probably dangerous, and he wasn't sure he appreciated Ja'nar using the information he had told her about his son, in confidence, to put his son in danger. Indeed, "using" seemed the apt word to Vanden. It was only after he had considered the potential danger to Davon that he then considered the potential danger to himself, and his career. But there was also the potential danger to Ja'nar. She must have known that there was danger in this for her, too, and so it must have been important to her. Perhaps, Vanden supposed, she simply wanted a person she could trust. He sighed. He was that person, he knew, even if she wasn't so to him. He copied the number onto a datacard, ejected it, and handed it to Ja'nar at arm's length. He did not refrain from her gaze this time. Her eyes seemed pensive to him. No doubt his own expression was austere, but Ja'nar knew him well enough to see through it. "Is there anything else?" he asked her, more gently than he had intended.
