| Lopek was swift on the draw as well; he'd actually had his holdout blaster out and aimed at Fett when the disruptor shot struck him. The information seller disappeared in a fireball and a thunderous detonation that Fett narrowly escaped. The bounty hunter would have to find his leads elsewhere this time, and the Jedi were further ahead with each passing hour. --- Vax considered the man who was their emissary for a long moment, noting the weapons. His initial view of Varak, from the man's speech and tones, was that Varak was compensating for some fears or cowardice by carrying as much weaponry as he was. Then again, the fact might well be that such mannerisms were false and Varak might well be quite deadly with all his implements. Either way, the weapons would mean little to a pair of Force-users. The battle droids though, gave Vax pause, and he felt a chill down his spine as he passed by them, seeing his reflection gleaming dully in their carapaces. Many a Jedi had fallen to such droids. "Indeed, tell us of this Shiva. I cannot recall ever having heard of him before."

| Varak cleared his throat, uncomfortable about talking of his leader when the man was soon going to be close enough to explain his own story. Shrugging mentally, he began to speak as the approached the turbolift. "Shiva is not the supreme commander yet, I should say. A High Commander, yes, being one of the more influential members towards the end of the Clone Wars. His acts were not as publicized as, say, Grievous or Durge, and certainly not known as well as Dooku. He fought the shadow war; the insurgents. When the Council was lost on Mustafar, Shiva seized a number of vessels and fought the Empire. As you can see, time and attrition have cut his numbers down, but he is one of the few Separatists who still maintain control of a planetary base." The turbolaser the three men would enter carried them upwards and across, towards the command bridge and Shiva's quarters. They'd be there momentarily.

| News of a planetary base was very interesting to Caden, though he didn't push the subject in that direction. Instead, as he stepped into the turbolift, he turned to Varak quizically. "Would I be correct in guessing that we aren't the first of our kind to meet with Shiva?" he asked, referring of course to other Jedi that may have taken this same turbolift ride. He glanced to Vax, then back to Varak, wondering if the old man was thinking the same. "Perhaps it is a good thing that this Shiva isn't as well known as the other Confederates, though. Seems that all the higher-ups were killed at the end of the War, or soon after. I've heard rumour of scattered remnant fleets, but they haven't made any sort of strike for some time, so far as I'm aware. At least, nothing of mention".

| Vax had indeed been thinking the same thing. If Jedi had come before them, what had their fate been? There were obviously no Jedi here, but Vax had felt a Force presence somewhere on the vessel, almost as if being masked, so his curiosity was piqued. It seemed unlikely that this Shiva had sided with the Empire just to capture Jedi. The ships themselves struck Vax as not being Imperial property. For now though, he kept his quiet and simply watched.

| "No, no you are not the first," Varak began, but then the doors hissed open onto a long corridor with an extravagant pair of double doors at the end. On the side of either door stood a pair of MagnaGuards. With a look at the Jedi, Varak motioned them forwards. "This is as far as I go, gentlemen. From here on in, it's only the droids... and Shiva."

| Caden did not like the look of the Magnaguards one bit. He'd never faced one before, but he'd studied them, heard stories. They were Jedi killers, many (if not all) of them trained in the styles of lightsaber combat and defending against it. "Oh, this had better not be a trap..." he growled, through gritted teeth, once Varak was out of earshot. He didn't care if the droids understood him, same as he didn't care if his tension offended Shiva. All of this secrecy, all of the droids... it put him more than on edge, more than the fact that here he was, posing as a Jedi, accompanied by a Jedi, heading deeper into the clutches of a very Separatist vessel and its Master. He motioned for the droids to lead the way, resisting the urge to take out his lightsabers as a comforting precaution. He had no doubt that the droids would see such a move as a threatening act, and he had no intention of testing the reality behind the stories he'd heard of the MagnaGuard and its capabilities. Not when he'd already come so far, gleaned so much from Varak about the nature of their host and his role, not only in the past, but in the present. The ship burned, damaged heavily. "You are not what you seem, Caden Sturn. Nor what you seem to think you represent". The voice came from afar, first male, then female, then something else entirely. Shrouded in secrecy, duplicitous in its delivery. Bodies lay strewn around him; sand-blasted armour and age-old rifles scraped along the charred deck, toward a gaping hole in the ships hull. He quickly came back to himself, thankful to find his hands preoccupied with steadying his weight against a bulkhead, rather than grasping a pair of incriminating red lightsabers. He glanced at Vax, a grimace on his face, then recomposed himself and continued heading toward Shiva and whatever else might lay ahead.

| "Worry less, boy. Droids are droids and not a one of them can use the Force as we can." Vax had noticed Caden's apparent unsteadiness and gave the younger man a concerned look. Vax was unusually tense as well, something he felt Caden could pick up on and did his best to shut it away. During the Clone Wars, the Jedi had only one encounter with a group of MagnaGuards, and it was not one he cared to repeat. They were proficient and quite deadly killers, that was to be sure. Moving forwards with Caden beside him, Vax approached the door, half surprised when the droids silently parted to either side. Shiva was either a trustworthy man or a foolish one to leave the Jedi in possession of their lightsabers; either way, it was a gift of sorts that Vax was all too happy to keep. Grasping the door's handle, he gave Caden an encouraging look, opened the door and stepped inside.

| The room before them was grandly decorated. Elaborate wall trappings, many having belonged to now-deceased Separatist commanders, adorned the bulkheads. A plush carpet covered most of the floor, muffling the sound of boots and feet alike. Several long tables were laden with food and drink, as well as a multitude of floral arrangements from different worlds. It was, in effect, a festive room. Taking away from it all was the seated figure of Shiva, who rose to greet the Jedi. Tall, robed, cowled, all in black, he cut an imposing figure. From his size and bulk, it was apparent he was a man who might well have led a hard life of labor. Moving around the table, he opened his arms in a universal welcoming gesture. "Gentlemen, I greet you in happiness and with the hope that the future is brighter than the present. Please, sit, refresh yourselves, and we will talk."

| The room was full of unwarranted grandeur, quite out of place on a ship like this, and yet considering its merchant origins, somehow fitting, too. The figure who rose to greet them looked incredibly out of place amidst such luxuries, a blot of ink staining a colourful artwork. Caden felt wary; in his experience, imposing figures robed and cowled in black were rarely accomodating types. Even more astonishing were the words of welcome and peace which issued from the cowled being. He approached a table, keeping a keen eye on their host, while taking a few bites to eat and a glass of some blue concoction that looked most refreshing of them all. Politely, he took a seat, still watching the robed man as if expecting him to start hurling bolts of Force lightning across the room at them. Maybe it was just the robes, but he looked to Caden like he'd fit right in among Emperor Palpatine and Lord Vader's retinue. "This is good food" he commented, taking a bite of his small but welcome meal. "Your pilot told us you have your own stronghold world. I can imagine the other remaining Separatists don't have such luxuries" he said. He meant it not as a challenge; infact, his words were laced with impression, as though he'd placed Shiva on a pedestal above the other Separatist leaders still out there. He looked to Vax, unsure if he should begin laying out their proposal or not. He didn't want to rush into things before they'd had chance to properly assess their host, but time may press them harder than he'd like.

| Vax had to conceal a look of surprise upon his face as they entered the room. The burgeoning Force presence he'd sensed on the vessel seemed to emanate from this man. It was odd, yes; the man lacked the feel of a formally trained Force-user, but the ability was there. Was Shiva aware of it? Had he already unconsciously tapped into the Force? Vax couldn't say, but it made him wary around the man. Keeping a smile on his lips though, the Jedi graciously partook of the offered food and drink, letting Caden speak while the older man sat back and studied. It was obvious that Shiva had done moderately well for himself; no mean feat in the galaxy these days. The lack of a visible face perturbed Vax slightly, but some beings preferred their odd comforts. "Yes, indeed, your pilot stated you have been able to retain control of a planet. I commend you on that victory, Shiva."

| Shiva sat across from the men, forsaking the place of honor at the head of the table. His manner was that of an unconcerned being lounging among friends, and there was no reason for him to be worried. with the MagnaGuards just outside the door, a squad of B2 droids just a call away and, perhaps most importantly (as one unfortunate Jedi had learned the hard way), four retractable and quite concealed heavy laser cannon turrets mounted in either corner of the room's ceiling. Between the extensive firepower and his personal weapons, Shiva did feel secure in his sanctum sanctorum. "No, no, I'm afraid many of my former comrades have fallen by the wayside or slipped into service with one criminal organization or another over the years. I've managed to avoid direct confrontation with the Empire for the time being. Unfortunately, I cannot stay hidden forever, and my stronghold will need to be evacuated. Until then, though, I gather materials and construct what ships I can. Of course, keeping the Empire busy with terrorist cells does do a fine job."

| Caden finished swallowing, and took a sip of his drink, before setting both plate and glass aside. It was time to stop with the friendly chit-chat, and start drilling into the core of why they were here, and why Grullo the Toydarian had recommended they come to Shiva. "Terrorist cells are becoming more of an irritant to the Empire than a real problem" he pointed out. "Last I heard, the Senate was using it as an excuse to tighten Imperial rein over its worlds and bolster security. In the end, such small attacks could have the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve" he observed. He let this sink in, hoping Shiva didn't take offense to his criticisms and dismiss them both outright. "Your people on Nar Shaddaa sent us to you. I think it's time we start discussing what benefits we can bring to each other".

| Vax was still assessing the man who sat before them. He had no reason outright to mistrust the CIS commander, but the fact that he could feel the Force within the man made him pause, continuing to hold off. Caden's skills as an Inquisitor might well come in handy for this impromptu meeting, which in some ways served as an interview. Letting himself relax, Vax focused outwards, keeping a mental eye on the conversation at hand in case he was addressed directly.

| "On the contrary, that is precisely the effect I want to happen. I run an insurgent campaign, gentlemen. On rare occassions, I initiate direct conflict. My forces are limited to an extent though, and I cannot wage open warfare. If the Empire tightens its security and grip hard enough on many worlds, the people will only stand for it so long. The more rebel groups that spring up, the better off I am. It's the simplest way to gain the advantage. For now though, these small bites are more than enough. "Take the recent conflicts between Volus and Vjun, for example. I plan to turn that into a large hotspot that may well result in a war between the two. With Imperial attention on them, I can work around things elsewhere. My agents on Volus are poised to strike soon." Shiva pused for a moment, looking the pair of men over. "So, the benefits. What is it you want?"

| With Shiva's words in mind, Caden thought to himself in silence for a few moments. What did he want? The initial plan of gathering the non-hostile Jedi from the galaxy and sequestering them away to one convenient back-water location seemed to have been forgotten somewhere between leaving Felucia and escaping from Nar Shaddaa. This didn't pose a problem of any sort other than that it had left Caden without a real goal. Still, he knew what he must achieve, and even before the thought had fully formed in his mind, he was speaking. "The Empire is relentlessly hunting all remaining Jedi and insurgents" he said. "I know how far it is willing to go, because until a short time ago, I served the Inquisitorius" he admitted, giving a cautious glance in Vax's direction. It was a gamble, revealing this much about himself so early, but his honesty might pay off. If not, he may need the old man to step in and smooth things over with that remarkably inspiring nature of his. "In short, we need allies. The Empire won't be stopped by small raids, it will only tighten its grip until every insurgent, every Jedi, and every free man, woman and child in the galaxy is under its control or laying in the dirt" he said solemnly. "If the active insurgents can be persuaded to band together and take a target - a meaningful target - then the Empire might have to think twice and take notice, and realise that the people aren't all happy with their rule" He paused, as if working something out in his head, or drawing up a mental image. "It's a risk, but if we can convince others to bring their full force to the table, we could work up a fleet and an army large enough to storm the Senate, or take Kuat Drive Yards, or destroy the Inquisitorius at their base of operations".
