"I've lost count," he admitted, gaze lingering on her own for a moment before turning back to the display above. Something'd happened just there, the tension there'd been before seemed to melt away when he'd caught her eyes, not that he was complaining. As far as Mara went this was the most headway he'd gotten since she'd come aboard the ship and he'd nearly choked on his meal when she'd walked into the galley. Not that she repulsed him in any way, quite the contrary, it was because he'd made an absolute mess of himself not two seconds before. He clicked the button again, and soon the system before them was familiar. The familiarity was the result of this system being his own, Naboo, though he'd taken care to remove the planet itself from the projection in the interest of keeping his past under wraps. No sense in the others knowing until he felt ready to tell them.

"This's my home system..." he whispered. "Grew up here, and all that, it's always been special to me--especially this." Another button, and the projection zoomed in on a single star, glowing mightily above the others, a giant among men... or in this case, burning gases. "This is my guide star... when I'd be out beyond the city I'd often get lost. This star's brightest in the sky every night, and it always seemed to point home." Dav paused, eyes glazing over for a moment as the memories came flooding back. "I've never had a name for it, unlike the others, nothing's ever seemed right enough for it." His weight shifted, so that he could crane his neck to look at her again with less effort. "... Would you like to name a star? That'd be my gift to you."

There was something about Davon just then, something aside from the smooth talked that she had seen so many times. With his lines and his cocky smile. No, he was suddenly real, and that made her like him all the more. "What system is it? " She asked. Stars were relatively unfamiliar to her. She didn't see much of them in the cities. Of course, she didn't know where he was from, so she wouldn't just remember. No, she didn't actually know a lot about Davon. Then again, the most he knew of her was what he saw when he found her in that back alley bar with an abusive boyfriend and a fledgling music career.

She turned her gaze back to him a moment and smiled. "Sure. That same one, right? I have a name in mind. " As she watched Davon, she realized that was the first time she was truly attracted to the man.

"Of course I mean that one, you juma-head." He chuckled, shifting his weight again so that he was once again on his back; getting lost in the constellations of his homeworld. He missed Naboo, he couldn't trick himself into believing otherwise, but for a moment there Dav began to miss more than just the verdant grasslands or the rustic terraces he'd grown up with. He missed his mother... Moira had always been there to, as his father would have put it, coddle him when he was stressed or disheartened. Dav and his mother had a special bond, something Dav could have sworn his father was jealous of, her passing had hit him hard. When he'd left, he told his father how furious he was with him; in Dav's mind, Artemis allowed that to happen. As he grew older he realized the immaturity of that thought, but he'd never swallowed his pride enough to give his father a ring to apologize.

Snapped back into reality, he turned his attention back to Mara. "Nothing's ever seemed right until now, that star means more to me than it would to most... but I could never name her... which is why I want you to do it." Another sigh, he slid his goggles off his forehead and tossed them across the room, where they landed on a pile of three-day-old laundry, to say he was exhausted after the days events would be an understatement.

Mara let out a low sigh as he evaded her question. "I kinda miss my home, you know, Corellia. Coronet City was well....you know." They had met there. Her gaze wandered back up to his star for a moment. She had a couple of ideas. "Why couldn't you name it?" Mara asked curiously before she glanced over at him.

"What about....Amneris?" she asked. It was a name she always loved and had thought that one day she might name a daughter if she had one, until she realized she wasn't really the child-having type.

"Corellia's nice," he added with a grin, "-though that bar I'd found you in wasn't the cleanest joint in town, quite honestly I was surprised to find such a lovely gal in such a depressing dump as that." He remembered it well indeed; how she'd rebuffed damn near every line he'd thrown her way, and how he'd gotten some nasty looks from the cantina's bouncer while doing so. Truth be told, what had originally attracted him to Mara was the thrill of the chase; though after her initial push-back he'd had to settle for a pair of Twi'lek dancers instead... what a night that ended up being. Dav permitted himself a lazy smile at the memory, before her next question registered deep within the recesses of his mind. "Nothing ever felt good enough for it, I guess... I don't really know much else."

His normally thick accent had disappeared at this point; yet another wall he'd erected in his attempt to forget his old life, this rarely happened and, such as it were, Dav found his mental defenses slipping further and further out of his control. When Mara gave him the name he'd taken a moment to think about it, then with a typical Vanden smile, he'd nodded his head. "Lovely name you pulled out there, damn near perfect, actually."

Mara reached up and trailed her onyx painted fingernails through her jet black locks. "I like it. I have for a while. Had it picked out for something completely different, but you know, this is way better." She said regarding the name. "So you never said what system...when do we get to go and actually see it?" Mara asked, unknowing of the history truly behind it.

She looked over at him for a moment. "No, it wasn't the best bar, was it? You seemed pretty content though. I really appreciate you doing for me what you did that night, and the next day. And you know....this." She sometimes felt that she didn't fit in. And she really knew that she was nothing like the rest of them, but it seemed as though the crew was a unique band of misfits, and in some twisted way, that made her right at home.

Finally, Mara turned her attention back to the ceiling. "Did I mention how cool this is? I don't have cool stars on my ceiling....." She smiled a little and let out a sigh.

His words caught in his throat for a moment; one of the few times where the normally smooth Vanden found himself tongue-tied. "... S'not important, really, though I guess it couldn't hurt-" he paused, his mind shuffling through a number of responses he'd practiced in regards to his past. "-It's the Naboo system... I'm from a small village outside Theed." A half-truth, but it was the best he could muster. "And you don't have to thank me, dollface, any warm-blooded guy in my position would've done the right thing." That was more to salvage her feelings than anything else; there'd been plenty of guys in the bar that night that could have stepped in, instead it was the scrawny red-headed spacer with a Cassanova complex who'd stood up for her. "B'sides, how can I call myself a gentleman if I don't come to the aid of a distressing damsel every once in a while?"

Mara turned on her side, propping herself up on her elbow, as she listened to him speak. Idly, she let her gaze trail over the navigator. Was that discomfort or sadness that she sensed and heard in his voice? No, vulnerability. He was opening up to her. Only a little, but it was more than she had seen from him, and it made her feel...good. Like maybe he trusted her. It was known to him that she trusted him with her life. He had saved it once already, maybe not directly and in a 'heat of combat' type of situation, but from something dangerous none the less.

She reached over to him and brushed a lock of his bright red hair back from his forehead as she watched his expression. "I'm sorry....I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." Mara wasn't sure if she truly did or not, but it seemed like it. "I've never been to that system, you know. But I've heard it's beautiful..." She said before she offered him a small smile.

Her next move was on impulse, and without thinking, she leaned down and pressed her lips against his tenderly. She didn't know why, but it felt right. And after all his trying, he had let her past that cocky exterior enough to make her feel comfortable enough to do that. It didn't last long, and Mara pulled back and looked down at him for a moment.

Hazel eyes shot wide open; and if he didn't know any better Dav would have sworn this was another one of his... special dreams. He'd pinched himself as it happened just to make sure; and the resulting pain in his arm confirmed his suspicions. To say he was shocked would have been an understatement; after all his prodding and failed flirtations, the impulsiveness she'd acted with was new ground for him. Far be it for him to protest, however, rather after she'd broken it off, he'd offered up a sly grin before sliding his hand round the back of her neck and pulling Mara back down. More shocking than her initial kiss was the aggressiveness with which she kissed him again; though he'd be lying if he said he wasn't appreciative.

His fortunes had improved; had he known how easy this had been he'd have finished the projection matrix much sooner than he had. Hindsight was 20/20, at any rate, and all that mattered to him now was that his efforts had begun to bear fruit. Though if there was one thing he'd have changed about this moment, he probably would have shut the door, just in case. Still, jacket-less, with a beautiful girl clawing away at him, tearing buttons and ever-so-slightly crushing his lungs? This was definitely a much better night than he'd envisioned.

Mara was honestly a little shocked that she had done that herself. She didn't know why she had done it. No, no, he had let her in, that's right. The thought almost slipped her mind as she looked down at the man and that cocky, sly smile crossed his lips again. Crap, she thought to herself.

He pulled her down to kiss her again, and without a second thought, she responded enthusiastically, deepening said kiss. Mara had forgotten about the door for the moment and went to busying herself with easily popping the buttons of his shirt open with the thumb and forefinger of her left hand. Once unbuttoned, she rested her palm on his chest and dragged her black lacquered nails against his pale flesh, though not enough to hurt him.

Finally, she remembered the door, and broke the kiss long enough to say something about it. "Dav the....the uh door...." She paused for a moment before she caught his lips again.

Nails dug against his flesh, and for the life of him Dav couldn't remember her ever being that strong. He'd been with fast women in the past, sure, but he'd never pegged Mara as one. Surprising, considering the rock-n-roll vibe that'd radiated off her since the moment they met; perhaps it was a subtle longing on his part for her to be a damsel in distress; they were always the easiest. As it stood, though, she was in control of things, perhaps a bit much for his liking. To his credit he'd been patient up to that point, but he wasn't about to let Mara run the show entirely. With a slight growl Vanden slid a hand round the small of her back and swung to his right, intending to roll her onto her back. Unfortunately for both of them, he'd underestimated his own strength (a rarity) and soon the two rolled completely off the bed; a tangled mess of limbs and sheets, and Dav's head managed to collide right into the sharp corner of his nightstand.

A deafening silence filled the room; Mara could only sit and watch as Vanden, flustered and breathing heavily, proceeded to grit his teeth as a whirlwind of obscenities in several different languages erupted from his throat. His tirade was of a godlike and pernicious wrath; and if Mara'd been able to decipher any of it, she'd have heard him cursing the furniture's entire family to certain damnation. 'Twas as if the Gods themselves had brought down the full force of divine retribution upon it; were there clouds in the sky a bolt of lightning would have split the durasteel monstrosity asunder. Finally, over the course of a good thirty seconds, the raging storm subsided, and there Davon sat, defeated, leaning against the side of his bed. His hazel eyes, still red with pained tears, managed to find her own, and all he could do was offer an apologetic smile. "... Sorry 'bout that."

Davon had often made note of the fact that he hadn't seen Doohan, Aphelion's mechanic, in a long, long time. If ever. But all of that was to change now that the mechanic happened across his open door at the worst possible moment, an occasion that was sure to add to the legend of Doohan's seeming omniscience. Indeed, whenever a fight broke out, Doohan was there. Whenever a new passenger came aboard, Doohan was there. But by some accident of fate, he was never where Davon had seen him, and vice versa, for that matter. Until now. The miserly old mechanic had been walking down the corridor, cleaning an engine component with a greasy rag, when he happened to see, and hear, the incident in Davon's cabin.

He watched it all with a flat expression, his eyes widened more in bemusement than surprise. He held the rag and the engine component motionless in his hands as he stood paused in mid stride. He happened to see Davon and Mara's calamitous fall and heard the nine Corellian hells that the boy unleashed upon the material world. Then, following Davon's meek apology and the awkward silence that once again descended on the cabin and the corridor, Doohan burst into thunderous laughter. If Davon's tirade had come from the depths of hell, Doohan's laughter came from heaven, so rare was this gift bestowed upon the domain of man. Doohan had a dry sense of humor, yes, but he rarely laughed.

Then he resumed his walk down the corridor, shaking his head, never to be seen again.

Mara wasn't normally like that. No, it had been Davons fault for letting her in. He had shown he'd, and only her, that he was vulnerable. And that was more of a turn on than any pick up line or sly smile that Davon could ever pull on her. She took a moment to breathe and it was in that moment that she felt his firm grip around her slender waist as he started to pull her over.

Mara had it expected it to ne agressive, wanting, but the nexts moments events were not expected at all. The pair crashed to the floor, with a yelp from her and a rather sickening crack of Davons head against he nightstand. Luckily, she was sparedthe pain of hitting anything aside from the cold, hard floor of his room. And even then, that hurt in itself.

"Dav..." she murmured as she tried to quell the stream of obcenities that was already flowing from his obviously unfiltered mouth. He didn't hear her though. Mara sat up and shook her head, clearing the dizziness within, when his tired finally came to a conclusion. "It's fine. " She said softly as she looked him over for a minute to make sure her wasn't bleeding or anything. Sure enough, there was a trickle of blood from the side of his forehead. "I'll get a medkit. " Mara said before she got up and nearl slammed into Doohan as she went. As if what had just happened wasn't embarrassing enough for the both of them, he fact that there was now a witness made it worse.

Mara's cheeks burned red when she saw the look on the old mans face. The fact was that when she did see him, she liked him, which made the situation all the more humiliating. "Oh hush. " she said as she brushed by him and dashed down the corridor to find a medkit to stir h the navigator up with. She had half hoped that he would wander his way down to the clinic room, but she had a feeling that she would just have to suck it up and go back there, despite how awkward things were going to be from now on.

He was bleeding, sure, but with all the adrenaline pumping through his veins the tremendous pain had subsided along with his rage. Now he just sat there, shirtless and staring off into the distance. Then Doohan had walked by, and Dav's entire sense of reality had been shattered, having never seen the mechanic before, and he probably never will again. What was even worse was that Doohan had been privy to the entire... "encounter", and now Dav had no way of stopping the story from spreading. Defeated, Vanden rose shakily to his feet, shaking off the lightheaded feeling that came from standing too soon, and bolted out the door and down the hallway; away from the direction of the medical room and towards the cargo bay. He'd no idea where he was going; and why he was going that way sans-shirt, all he knew was that he had to get the hell out of there before Mara, or anyone else showed up. Even he wasn't sure why he chose to flee, perhaps it was embarrassment, or just a need to cycle through the whirlwind of thoughts in his head, but from the direction he was running it looked like he'd find himself in the cargo bay before long.

Mara hadn't thought that the entire encounter was too embarrassing. Well, maybe a little, but not enough to dissapear over. It was an accident, of course. Had the door been closed, it might not have been so bad. Either way, she had an idea that different variations of what had happened would likely circulate the ship within the next few hours, all of which she would rebuff because they likely would not be true.

Once she retrieved the med kit, Mara headed back towards Davon's room. What she saw next, she didn't expect. He was gone. "Uhm.....Dav?" A small frown crossed her face as she looked at the abandoned, messy room. His shirt was still laying there in the heap of bedding that had come off of the bed when the both fell. So wherever he was, he was shirtless and bleeding.
