She didn't cook. It wasn't much of a thing that she had ever been able to do, but she was really good at popping open a can of noodle-o's and heating them up, or bringing particular breakfast favorite on board. Doughnuts. "Hey Davon, think fast." Mara Antares said as she easily tossed a sealed box of doughnuts to him. They were chocolate, or at least, some facsimile of chocolate. Centers of an almost dense spongy breading, covered in a waxy, chocolate-like substance. It worked, either way. And despite how gross they may have sounded to some, they were her favorite. A weakness, almost, and she picked up a package (or seven) almost anywhere that they would stop.

Mara smiled and dropped down into the seat next to him and sat a bottle on the table. No no, it was too early for alcohol, for her at least. Then again, she wasn't as much of a drinker all of the time, though she did occasionally indulge, usually at the behest of someone else. Or assistance, more like. It was milk. What else would one have with doughnuts?

"Didn't get a chance to give this to you when I got back yesterday, what with the bodies all over the place and the freaked out passenger and all." Mara said as she handed him a little bag. It wasn't anything fancy, not wrapped, just in the bag that it had come in from the store, though she had taken the moment it took to wrap one of her few hair ribbons around it and tie it into a messy little bow. Arts and crafts weren't much her specialty either. It was the thought that counted, so she believed.

Inside the mussed little package was a hard rubber Kaadu toy, to the same scale of the rest of the little trinkets that Davon kept on his nav console, and sometimes on his desk in his room. A small display of different Theropods had been set up next to the counter at one of the various shops she had been to the day before. The gesture showed, in a small way, that she did think about the navigator, even in the smallest sense at times. But truthfully, Mara did think of him more than that, but she couldn't let him know that.

"So what do you think? Does he work? I thought he was fierce and....you should name him George or something." She said as she used one of her black polished fingernails to slice through the label on the doughnut box and free the chocolaty goodness for consumption. With that, she plucked one of the waxy edibles out of the box and took a small bite.

"These....are my favorite."

He'd spent much of the early morning distracting himself with various activites; ranging from playing sabacc with himself, drinking, smoking and now: tearing hungrily into one of Mara's delicious chocolate confections. Dav would often find himself getting lost in his activities; despite what Percy asserted Vanden actually had the capacity to focus on a single task at any given time. To his Captain's (and the crew's) chagrin, however, the jobs he'd focus on the hardest usually didn't account for any of his actual ship responsibilities. It wasn't that the boy hated work, he'd pulled his weight on the ship for years now, albeit with some complaining; rather Dav always made sure to place his own interests ahead of the Aphelion's when it wasn't detrimental to their lives or to the ship.

There was a certain solace that the navigator found in the crew galley; outside of his bedroom and his console it was where he spent the most of his time. There was booze there, and food... and a sabacc table coupled with a comfy three-seater couch that had obviously seen better days. As Mara plopped down next to him, Dav made some half-assed attempt at gratification by nodding and flashing her a thumbs-up, like Antares he too had a fondness for sugary deliciousness. After struggling with a rather large bite, Dav's eyes widened as she produced a rather fancy-looking bag; and here he was not getting her anything. He couldn't help himself; when he was around presents Dav was a child again, and he dug eagerly through the bag until he discovered the Kaadu toy, and he couldn't help but smile.

"Yeah... he works great," Vanden managed in between a bright smile. It reminded him of home; not so much the bad memories: the fights with his father, his mother Moira wasting away in hospice before eventually succumbing to her illness, how he'd left the only world he'd ever known behind without so much as a second glance. It reminded him of the what always fascinated him about Naboo, how even in a galaxy with so much turmoil and oppression... that there was still beauty in all of it. He was taken aback, really, that she'd both gotten this for him and that a small toy could hold so much meaning for him. "Mara, this is... awesome, thank you." He said the last part in a hushed tone; almost as if he was afraid Percy or Ransom would be rounding the corner into the lounge at any minute. There were appearances to keep up, after all, though Davon's love of toys was well-known.

"I didn't get you anything... that can't stand. How much did you pay for it, I'll buy you a drink or some'n." With another toothy smile, he set the Kaadu down on the table and rose to his feet, walked over to food storage and began rustling through the ingredients. "I'm suppose' a be in charge of dinner tonight-" his voice chirped out over the sound of bottles clanking against each other. "I was gonna' make something easy, but what d'you want? Looks like we've alot of nerf steak left over..."

Mara watched him as he tore into the rumpled store bag, and then enjoyed the light in his eyes when he saw the simple little toy. That was what she was looking for, not something in return, just to make the navigator smile. "I don't need anything, Dav. Saw it and thought of you, is all." No, she didn't know he was from Naboo, so she had no idea the significance of the little lump of plastic. As long as it made him happy, she was good with it.

She plucked another doughnut out of the box as she watched Davon rustle through the pantry. "I don't much care, really. Somethin easy sounds good." Mara was usually indifferent when it came to meals, so long as there was something to eat, she was generally fine. "What about just re-heating those nerf steaks and toss some potatoes in?" She assumed thats the kind of thing most men liked. Meat. Potatoes. Yum.

"Or you could shred the meat and put some sauce on it and heat it up...like those sloppy sandwich things I liked so much from that cart vendor back on Coruscant? Remember?" She wasn't sure that he would, or even if he had been there for it.

Mara curled her legs up under her, tucking her bare feet under her cargo pants covered legs. Idly, she pushed her fingers through her sleek, dark locks as she watched the navigator quietly. She trusted him, which was a definite issue for her. It was hard to trust people after the last guy she had dated, not that they were dating or would be. It was just a thing. Finally, Mara took a swig straight out of the small bottle of milk and sat it down before she reached for her doughnut again, and directed her attention from Davon to the sabacc board in front of her for no particular reason.

"Can't say I recall any sloppy sandwiches, no-" he managed out in between muffled curses. The curses were the primary result of his latest blunder, having eagerly attempted to extricate his head from the food storage container only to smack his temple, hard, against the side. "And it looks like I was wrong; turns out we're going to be feasting on these lovely-" his hand shot from within the container, an unlabeled silver can in its possession "-can of... stuff... tonight." Chuckling in spite of himself, Dav set the can down on the counter and returned to the couch, plopping down on it with all the grace of a bantha and propping one booted foot up on the sabaac table, which he could see now held Mara's undivided attention.

No matter how Mara felt about the matter; there were plenty of times where Dav'd thought about the two of them, and there were many more times where he'd showed up at her cabin door, drunk, at four in the morning. Strangely, even to him, he'd been unable to banish the thought from his mind, even after the year or so she'd been part of the family. Normally when dealing with rejection Dav'd move on after a few hours and try another girl; and yet, despite his best efforts, lingering thoughts of "what if" hung in the deep recesses of his brain. And, while Mara is incredibly gorgeous and that was most certainly a large portion of his attraction to her, she seemed the type of girl that trusted him... and he trusted her in turn.

Not that she was the only one, Rawls being the person Dav trusted most. To him Rawls was, at the very least, a brother... albeit one who doles out his pay after a job, but a brother in spirit. Percy... he and Dav got along well enough, though their conversations never lasted long. Ransom... now Dav didn't quite know how he thought of Ransom. There were times when the man was his hero, and there were others when he was the bane of his existence; in addition to being the scariest person on the ship. They were all criminals, of course, but Ransom's record would put theirs to shame any day of the week. And then there was Doohan; who on more than one occasion had thrown punches at the significantly younger boy, usually only after Vanden had chipped away at the old man's patience for hours on end. Still, no matter what they said or did to one another, they were the closest thing to a family that Dav had ever truly had.

Her attention had been diverted for no more than a few moments. Once he kicked his booted foot up onto the table, she snapped her gaze to him. "Yeah that sounds fine...." But she hadn't heard a word that he had said about dinner. Her mind was on other things that had absolutely nothing to do with Davon. Well, in all honestly, some of those thoughts trailed back to the navigator.

Mara would never, ever admit that she thought about it. Usually when he showed up about half lit (or even completely) at her door at some ungodly hour of the morning. She was mostly a night owl, and generally only slept a few hours a day anyway, so it never much bothered her. Nothing had ever happened though.

She snapped out of it and smiled slightly before she looked him over. "So how long of a flight is it this time? Couple days or a couple weeks? Do we have a job other than, well, you know....the passenger?" He didn't have to tell her details, of course, but she sometimes got a little antsy being cooped up for too long. Mara rarely showed it, but she did like to at least know, so that she could count down the days. And most of the time, if Davon was around, it didn't bother her too much.

Dav's mind had a nasty habit of drifting back to old memories mid-conversation; a habit that manifested itself usually at the worst times. While he'd hardly check this conversation off as the worst time for a daydream, his mind did wander yet again. The memory in question was one from a few months ago; when Dav had drank what he thought had been twice his weight in Deralian brandy and had stumbled, shirtless, up to Mara's door and knocked. When she had answered, eyes heavy with a lack of sleep, he'd been leaning against the doorway in some pathetic attempt to show off his muscle structure. The resulting hand print-shaped bruise on his left cheek had taken three weeks to fully heal. And as soon as it had; Dav had gone back for more, to some such behavior might have been classified as masochistic. To Dav, it was the art of seduction.

"Hmm? Oh... I've no idea, really. Cap'n hasn't told me nothin' yet." He happened to glaze over the trip to Garos they'd probably be making; mainly because he was still unsure whether or not the Captain had taken the job. The man loved credits, anyone with half a brain did, so Davon was cautiously optimistic in that regard. Silence overtook the galley for a moment; uncharacteristic of their previous conversations. Perhaps it was the present she'd gotten him; he could have sworn she'd never gotten him anything before, why change that now? Not that he didn't appreciate the gift, that wasn't it at all, but for all her posturing and seeming lack of interest, her buying him a present stoked the flames of Dav's once-shattered ego. With a wry smile and a slight nudge of her arm with his own, he broke the silence. "So I noticed the way you got Percy's pants in a jumble, excellent work."

Mara easily shifted her weight and put her feet up on the couch before she leaned herself back against Davon, then dropped her head lazily on his shoulder as she examined her manicure. The black polish was perfect and fresh, tipped in white. They always chipped when she played guitar, not that she did that much anymore. The instrument pretty much stayed in its case, shoved into the back of her closet to be forgotten about. Much like her former life.

"Well it doesn't much matter. Just curious how long we'd be stuck in this tin can this time." She smirked a little and lifted her chin so she could look at him, although from that angle, he was upside down. "I wonder if we'll ever get to Corellia again though. I mean, my dad is there and its not like I've talked to him in years and my sister, well, she was on Coruscant and whatever, you know." He probably didn't know, because she hadn't told him much about why she left home and her sister. They shared DNA, but only from their mother, as their fathers were different. Well that and her sister was ISB, so she really had no desire to have that kind of run in.

"Percy? Oh it's not difficult to get his knickers in a twist. But I meant it. He was wearing a cool jacket." She murmured before she dropped her gaze and turned her attention back to her nails. "He's nice, Dav. Really. Quiet. Finicky. But nice." She smiled a little before she trailed her fingertips through her jet black locks and accidentally brushed his arm with her fingertips as she did.

He knew how that felt; to run from something, from who you truly were. The different between Dav and Mara was that Dav had no intention of going back home. There were often times where he'd wondered if Artemis missed him; and there were times where Dav had missed him, in turn; though if one thing was certain about the Vanden family, it was that they're stubborn as a bantha. He smirked when she leaned back on his shoulder, but quickly hid it with the collar of his jacket. What was Davon if he wasn't smooth with the ladies? A pretty girl leaning on his shoulder was a common occurrence with him, after all. "Nice-" he scoffed, "-he wasn't so nice when he used my own jacket to strangle me... though I guess I deserved it. Who knew he'd get so upset about me picking up on his mother?"

Mara blinked as he said that, quickly shutting down her own thought trail about her strange, absentee family. "You did what to Percy's mother?" She asked, though she had heard him clearly the first time. "I would have tried to strangle you with your own jacket too, no, I wouldn't have tried, I would have succeeded." She smirked a little to hide the fact that it did disturb her a little, Percy's mother or not.

The woman would never admit it, but there was some sort of a bit of jealousy when she saw Dav schmoozing up another potential notch in his bedpost. So to make up for it, she would flirt mercilessly, though unlike Dav, she never followed through with it. She wasn't the 'notch in the bedpost' kind of gal. Not that she was entirely thinking Dav was. It simply came across as such at times.

"That must have been rather awkward...." She commented finally as she quickly shut down her thoughts of jealousy. Mara had resisted thus far, and feeling jealous was probably not a good thing, especially if Davon had noticed her expression or felt her tension that wracked her entire form. So instead, she tried to relax.

He couldn't help but chuckle at the memory; a few months before Mara had joined the crew Rawls had gifted the crew a week-long furlough on a planet that just-so-happened to be Percy's homeworld. To Dav's great surprised, Percy's mother had turned out to be a splendid lady, possessing both a body that'd make any man swoon along with a keen intellect. Naturally, the only way Dav knew how to respond was to make a pass at her, and it'd ended badly for him. Still, as with everything else in his life, Vanden had no regrets. If he'd gone with his original impulse at the moment, which was to get hammered drunk and retire to his quarters, he'd not have noticed Mara's pained expression. He had, however, and soon silence filled the room.

Dav was no good with silence, hell, he talked more than any other person on the ship just so that there wouldn't be silence, something had to be done. To his luck, an idea perked up in the back of his mind; something he normally reserved for women he planned to sleep with. Despite this, Mara was a friend, and a hot friend at that, perhaps this might cheer her up. As abrupt as ever, Dav shot to his feet and motioned for her to take his hand. "Come'on, there's somethin' I wanna show you."

Mara fell backwards onto the sofa as he jetted up onto his feet, as she had been leaning against him like he was part of that same sofa. She looked up at Davon from where she now was laying on her back and smirked a bit. "Some warning, next time?" She asked as she stretched her back slightly as she stayed in that spot.

When he offered his hand, she hesitated for a minute and then placed her hand into his and pulled herself up carefully, then pulled herself to her feet before she straightened her clothes with her free hand. "What's that?" She asked as she would begin to follow him.

His steps were measured, while he dragged Mara by the hand slightly he took special care to not violently pull her down the hallway to his quarters. He had to admit it was a genius idea that'd just popped into his head; though he wasn't certain why it'd taken him this long to remember he had said surprise. Over the course of the several months he'd been saving up his cuts and working in secret; oftentimes the sound of a hydrospanner hitting the floor or his incessant cursing over having cut himself would resonate throughout the ship, but nobody'd ever mentioned it. Perhaps they figured that what went on in Dav's quarters in the wee hours of the night were better left unexplained... there were some terrifying sounds that'd filter out from that room.

Within moments there were in front of his door; and Dav didn't doubt Mara was confused. Things would be explained in due time, for now he simply opened the door and stepped inside, beckoning for her to follow him. Even as she'd stepped through the doorway, Dav'd already begun clearing the pile of clothes and other junk that littered his two-person bed and kicking other refuse under it. Unfortunately for them all, this was the extent of his cleaning prowess. With a contented sigh, he turned back to Mara, hazel eyes twinkling in the dim light emanating from his nightstand. "Lay down on the bed, face-up, you gotta see this."

Mara followed him, her fingers laced lightly into his as she kept pace. "Where are we going?" She finally asked as she glanced back over her shoulder down the empty corridor. It was for nothing more than her piece of mind, not that she cared if anyone on the ship saw them together. When they stopped at his door, however, she looked to him for a moment, almost as if she was confused. And then he asked her to lay down.

Was this another half assed attempt at getting her into bed? Probably. And he succeeded.

After he cleaned the pile of clothes off of the bed, Mara sat down on his bed and then dropped her head back onto one of the pillows before she trailed her fingers through her sleek black locks. "What's this all about, Dav?" She asked as she looked up at the ceiling above her.

He said nothing at first; opting instead to offer her an innocuous wink and then settling down on the bed next to her, smoothing out the wrinkles in his black jacket before reaching for a small remote at his bedside. After several months of hard work, he'd finally get a chance to test out the new features of his quarters, namely the astrological projection software he'd installed. "Just watch..." he responded, voice barely above a whisper, and then he pressed the big red button on the remote. A small panel in his ceiling opened, sliding back and revealing what Mara could probably guess was a projector of sorts. Within a few seconds three blue lights began to blink in sequence, Vanden lacing his hands behind his head and kicking off his dress shoes.

The lights began to blink faster, until they stopped completely, and the room darkened. If Mara had any idea of what his intentions were, she might have figured this was indeed some half-assed attempt at getting her into bed. Instead, from the ceiling-mounted projector, a spectacular image materialized above their heads. The image in question was a brilliant filigree of stars; all different hues ranging from red to blue and gold. They spun above the pair's heads in a slow waltz, and Dav braved a look in her direction to judge her reaction. "I've spent alot of coin on this, I've always liked stars." With another grin, he pressed another button and the constellations changed, shooting overhead and rearranging into an entirely different cluster. "Since I was a kid-" he began again, his eyes now twinkling with both excitement and pride at the successful operation of his latest project, "-I've always loved space... more accurately I've loved stars. Somethin' about 'em, I guess. Anyhow, if there's one thing I've missed most about my homeworld, it was stargazing. I guess I always felt drawn to them... it was a sense of adventure, y'know?"

As the constellations continued to change, showing different systems and different colors, Dav became a child again, just for a moment. He was back on Naboo, sitting in his room staring out the window, wondering if there was something better out there. Turns out, there hadn't been, but his wanderlust had never escaped him. "I've been charting every system we've visited, hoping one day that I'll have a complete picture of all the stars..." his voice trailed off, and again he cast a glance in her direction.

Mara laid there silently as he fiddled with the remote and the projector slid out. When the stars began swirling on the ceiling, a small smile crept across her face. "I think that you chose the right profession then, Dav." she murmured in response to his comment about loving stars. "But we don't really get to see them much, do we?" They were, typically, running from something, so there wasn't a whole lot of time to relax and just enjoy things. None the less, what Davon had done here was beautiful and strangely calming.

"How many systems do you have done?" she asked as she glanced to him for a moment, then looked back up. Mara hadn't been with them that long, so she hadn't seen a whole lot yet, but there was still plenty of time.

She turned her head again then and caught his gaze and held it for several long moments.
