It was no secret that Vjun had erected a scientific station outside of Volus space. Therefore, it only made sense that said station was the first obstacle in reaching Volus. To this end, a single shuttle, being a Theta-class, dropped from hyperspace, broadcasting no information as to its ownership. A goodly distance from the research station, well out of easy response range and weapon systems, it initiated a full scan of the station and any surrounding craft before moving to enter hyperspace again.

From such a range the Theta-class' older sensors would be able to tell little about the station, save that it was an Imperial Sensor Array. Being that it was a sensor array, proximity alarms began to activate as the initial part of the scan was detected, resulting in the sensor beginning a jamming signal towards the Theta-class on all stanard scanning frequencies, the large arrays of the sensor array being well suited for the purpose and preventing the collection of much data.

However, even with the vessel being a goodly distance away, the pair of Cloakshapes always on patrol in the area moved to intercept the Separatist shuttle, speeding towards it with their engines on maximum "Identify yourself, unknown vessel" spoke the nearest of the two fighters, approaching cautiously while gaining a missile lock on the vessel.

The Commandant of the station considered, stroking his beard, what the point of this aggression was, being that it almost certainly came from Volus it seemed an odd choice, when all data on the station had already been sent. In addition to this it was queer that this was considered an "obstacle" to reaching Volus, lying well off the hyperspace lanes and manned mostly by young scientists eager in the scientific endeavour, it appeared to be a fairly innocuous target and not one which promised much reward, or indeed offered any obstacle to ingress towards Volus.

As soon as the active jamming began (or the Cloakshapes registered as turning towards the Theta), the shuttle would have begun beating a hasty retreat. In a sense, the actual response times of the craft around the sensor array and indeed, the sensor array itself, were more important data than the actual use of the sensor array. The vessel, of course, did not identify itself, already having turned tail and accelerating towards maximum speed.

Shiva had chosen the scientific station as a leapfrog target of sorts. Obviously, it would be hard to utilize the station without incurring any casualties, but from the Separatist commander's viewpoint (be it right or wrong), any who actively resisted his forces' brief occupation of the station received their just rewards if they were killed. The station itself had little value, other than as an approach route, and it certainly wouldn't do in the long run to have Vjun warning Volus that an attack was coming.

The Theta-class vessel had done its work well. The sensor array had been scanned, along with its surrounding assets. As near as Shiva's men had been able to discern, a pair of gun emplacements had been stationed to act as overwatch on the array. A pair of Cloakshape fighters had been noted as well, and if two were present, Shiva estimated at least six more. Better to estimate high instead of low. As such, the point would be to take out the communications array or nullify its use as quickly as possible without letting them get a message off.

Luckily, the telemetry data from the shuttle had given him an idea.
