The shuttle slowly touched down on the landing pad as it came to a stop. The ships engines humming as they began to power down before the ramp slowly came down and rested in place. Steam hissed from the joints of the hydrolics before a figure appeared at the top of the ramp and began to walk down. The ornate coat on his shoulders dragged along the ground as he stepped off of the ramp and walked along the hanger bay. Lord Zarcaine Kuriyoshi had gone home to the Cronese Mandate. Having wanted to take a break and deciding to no longer introduce bills, just vote on others introduced. He took a speeder to his home, a lavish compound that was sitting on a hill. A garden resting in the back that was designed and cared for by his wife.

It had been a while since he had been home. His wife wanting to go to Coruscant with him, yet he was too protective to allow the beautiful flower to go to a world that would cause it to wilt. When the speeder stopped Zarcaine stepped out and walked up the steps, pushing open the door before speaking out loud. "I'm home."

She hadn't wanted to be left alone, not in the least, but there was nothing she could have done about it. Sure, if she were more like one of those liberated women, the bold and defiant ones, she could have gone to Coruscant anyway. That kind of thinking lingered in the back of her head, but never came out, as it was not in her upbringing.

As Zarcaine entered the house, the servants were scrambling with last minute things and to get themselves in order for their masters unannounced arrival home. They had only found out at the last moment when one of the guards called in from the gate and said that Lord Kuriyoshi was there.

Unfortunately for him, however, his wife was not present when he came in through the front door. She was out in the garden, sitting in a chair that hung from a tree branch with a holobook perched on her lap. Amneris was oblivious to the hubub that was going on in her house, as no one had the time to get to her before he walked in.

He walked to the window and smiled to see his wife sitting in the garden. He hushed the servants as he slid out the door and walked through the garden slowly. He came up behind her as he lightly rested his chin on her shoulder. "What are you reading my dear" He turned her head and kissed her lightly before he looked at the holobook in her lap. His eyes running over the page as he smiled before sitting next to her. "I have missed you my love." He smiled as he wrapped his arm around her. Their marriage had been an arranged one, yet for the few months they had spent together before it, they had become very close.

Zarcaine loved his wife very much, his hand now holding hers as he smiled. It was comfortable at home, it was soothing. He needed it, the stress having gotten to him. That was the real reason for him to return home to spend time with his wife. He needed to be with the one that first inspired him to help people.

Amneris startled when she felt someone come up behind her, and it took a moment before she realized that it was Zarcaine. After he kissed her, she stared at him for a moment and blinked slowly. "What are you doing here? You did not call...." She said worriedly. The house wasn't ready for his arrival, nor had they done anything to prepare for him coming home. While he was away, the manor was run in a very relaxed and casual manner, which was not the case when he was home.

She pulled herself to her feet and straightened the dress she was wearing before she tucked the holobook under her arm and out of view. "Nothing important. A silly romantic fiction is all." She murmured. "You'll need supper, I am sure. Let me go and let the chef know to prepare your favorite." Amneris gave him a small smile before she hurried off towards the house.

He kissed his wife lovingly as he watched her stand up. "I didnt call because I wanted to surprise you." He stood up and held her hand. "I'll go with you, its been far too long since I've last spent time with you." Zarcaine pulled her closer to him as he hugged her. He had missed her and didnt want her to go rushing off just yet. He smiled once more before kissing the back of her hand and walking with her to the kitchen. He let his wife speak with the chef as he stepped into the other room. Looking around as he let out a heavy sigh. He had missed home, and now there he was, sitting in the large dinning room as he sighed and looked out the large windows into the garden again.

Amneris watched Zarcaine from across the room. She decided that was the moment to be bold. "You would not have had to pause your work and come home if you had just allowed me to come to Coruscant with you." Amneris said, matter of factly, though she was gentle about it. "You would not miss me as much either." She tested the waters carefully, but did not push too hard.

"I know that you said that you missed me, but I know that is not the only thing that brought you home. Something is troubling your mind. I can tell." Amneris sat in the seat next to him. If nothing else, she was good at listening. Perhaps she could help him if he told her what the problem was. "Tell me what is going on. Maybe I can help."

Normally that question to him was enough for him to shout and rant about the dangers of Coruscant and how much safer his wife was at home. Yet as he was about to speak up, something else turned in his mind. "You do have a point my dear." He thought for a moment, what caused him to say that when the past many months he'd go off each time she'd ask him to go with him. Maybe he was just arguing a point that was useless and had no point all those months. He thought on it a moment as she took the moment to sit beside him before he turned.

"It's always been a heavy thought on my mind of keeping you safe. It was one of the things your father and mother promised me to do. Other than the giving your mother many grand children." He gave a laugh as he held her hands as he looked at her. He was worried, yet he still pushed that out of his mind. "I'll make a deal with you. You can come to Coruscant with me, but you will have a personal bodyguard with you at all times, agreed?"

He had ignored her offer of help. Of course, she had hoped that he would allow her to help, but that seemed like an impossibility. "I suppose that would be fine." She said in response to him about a bodyguard. The woman hardly thought it was necessary. How bad could Coruscant really be? "Whatever you think is best." Amneris gave him a small smile as she rose to her feet and moved to the window to look out at the garden in the back of the manor. The gardeners were out and preparing for spring. It would be pretty there very soon, since the weather had turned mild.

He stood up as he walked over to her. His arms wrapping around her waist lightly, while he placed his chin gently on her shoulder. "What is wrong my dear, you're usually not this quiet" He kept his chin resting on her shoulder as he closed his eyes and listened to her. His arms holding her tightly as he had deeply missed his wife. He kissed her cheek while he held her close and enjoyed the feeling of her in his arms for the first time in a very long time.

Amneris frowned, though he couldn't see it. That was the point, after all. "Nothing, dear. I just have nothing more to say on the matter." She murmured as she pulled away gently.

"Why are you avoiding telling me about your work? Did something happen?" Amneris pushed a little more on the subject. He hadn't called before he arrived home, so she only assumed that something had happened that made him want to come home so quickly.

He let out a heavy sigh as he looked out the windows again. She was still pushing, it was one of the quirks of his wife that he loved. He turned to look at her as he walked to his wife. His hands taking hers as he held them and looked into her eyes. "The last few bills I put up didnt go so well. The people didnt seem to care about giving independent rights to others." He sighed again as he let her hands go and walked over to one of the couches, sitting down as he leaned back.

"I didnt call because I didnt want a fuss of me coming home." He looked back to her before he leaned his head back and closed his eyes.

Amneris continued to look out the window as he spoke. "The purpose of the Empire is to take away the rights of individuals, is it not? And to give sole power to the Emperor." She was not happy about it, but she had never said anything before now. "It seems to me that the idea of a Senate is almost a sham. To let people believe that they have rights that they truly do not." Her gaze went to Zarcaine for only a second. "If you will pardon me, I should go and check on supper." With that being said, she whisked from the room to the kitchen.

Zarcaine sighed as Amneris left the room to check on dinner. It seemed like he had done something wrong by not letting her know he was coming home. He just wanted to surprise his wife, yet it seemed like he just put her in a bad mood. He shook his head as he placed his arm on the window on the large doors. His forehead resting on his arm as he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. His eyes opened as he looked out at the garden before he pushed the door open and stepped outside and walked through the gardens. Stopping at a statue in the middle as he sat on the stone bench. The same one he had first met Amneris when their parents brought them together.

It wasn't that she was angry with him for coming home, quite the opposite actually. Amneris was glad to have him there. She was happy to see that he was safe, but him being there did not stop the work that she still needed to do. Right at that moment, it was to check on supper. And she was embarrassed that she had said the things she had about the Empire and the Senate in front of Zarc. That was not like her. It was not in her nature to speak out.

Zarcaine let out a heavy sigh as he sat on the bench. His eyes looking at the fountain in front of him as he placed his hands together. He watched as the water flowed through it, the birds landing on it and chirping as they rested. He didnt mind Amneris speaking out, he wanted to hear what she had to say. He stood up as he walked over to the fountain, looking into the water to see a coin on the bottom that had been there for since he could remember. His eyes on it as he remembered Amneris throwing it in there before they had met. Maybe it was a wish she was making when he first approached her sitting on the bench. His mind going back to memories as he stood there. Going over how wrong he was to try and hide her away in their estate instead of taking her with him to Coruscant.
