Darres had his own problems with the fact that Moff Brandt was there, even more so with the simple fact that he made the subtle suggestion that Darres needed to inform the Moff that he was going to surprise his own relatives, whom he had not seen in a long time. It was Moffs like Brandt and Senators like Oswaldt that really gave the Empire a worse name and reputation. Not all of the administration was like these two fine and disturbing samples of humans, yet it was these two examples that often gave the rebellious people the motive to stand up against the Empire. Darres walked for a few steps with Rasuk to keep himself between his niece and the Moff before he made sure the doors to the bedroom were secure as he slowly walked around one of the larger chairs and sat down, setting his elbows on the high arm rest and letting his hands rest together as he waited and watched.

Brandt smiled an 'Oh you!' smile, looking from Zarcaine to Moff Verilia and shaking his head. "The two of you," he said, "It's like you're the same person, I swear!" He laughed dismissively, and long before Amneris would be pulled thuggishly out of her own living room, Brandt would spring his surprise on her and Zarcaine. He stepped around a partition momentarily and returned to the foyer with a truly magnificent fruit basket; every color of the rainbow was in evidence, and even some colors that defied description. The colors flowed together seamlessly, and the fragrance of it all was delectable. "You will find that Imperial Center is a world whereupon all the unique cultures of the galaxy intersect. This basket contains fruit from two dozen worlds, in harmony. A fine symbol of Imperial Center and, I hope, a gesture of welcome to you both. This planet can seem awfully, well, grey to a newcomer, but color can indeed be found among its culture and customs. Which reminds me, that's not all," he said, sounding quite proud of himself as he reached into a fold of his uniform and retrieved a pair of flimplast documents. He handed them to the Senator. "Tickets to the opera," he said, "In a private booth. You really must go, this season has been marvelous." A fruit basket and complimentary tickets to the opera—this wasn't exactly the stuff that stirred men's souls to revolt as Moff Verilia seemed to expect.

"And I hope I've not overdone it, but there is one more thing..." he said, glancing mischievously from Zarcaine and Amneris to Moff Verilia, too.

"I am perfectly safe." She said to Rasuk as she gently pulled her hand from his. He started to nudge her and she frowned. From one cage to another, it felt like. Moff Brandt's cut the tension with his speech and the producing of his gift and she stopped, despite the hand wrapped around her arm.

"That is very kind of you, Moff Brandt." She said as she carefully untangled herself from Rasuk and moved away from him. "I've never been to the opera. Of course, I have heard about it....and saw a little on the holo." She would turn to Zarc. "Please say we can go. Please?" She smiled a little, biting her lower lip as she grinned.

It was obvious to her that Brandt really had no ill intentions towards them at all, and though she didn't say it, she felt that the men were being a little too standoffish with the man. He was, after all, just trying to do something nice, it seemed. Aside from the breaking and entering.

Zarcaine had quite enough of this crap that the Moff continued to spout. The fact that he was still here was disturbing and insulting enough even after he had been told to leave. It was something that Zarcaine didnt like, he had not invited him to his home, nor did he have any need or want to meet with Moff Brandt. Now he was stuck as this twisted work of something less than art tried to show he had a good side. Zarcaine shook his head as he saw what was brought out before he looked to Amneris. "I already have a private booth at the Opera and was going to take you my dear." He then quickly looked back to Moff Brandt. "As for those tickets, I'm sure the funds brought from an auction of them would help a local charity much more than just tossing them aside. Just as I believe that fruit basket would do much better in the bellies of the hungry than sitting in my home."

He was clearly showing that he had enough of this Moff and wanted him out of his house.

((ooc: Considering it is way pass the 4 days for Brandt to have posted and its been 12 days of myself and Lana waiting for him to post, we will be continuing with out him. We'll be making the assumption that Brandt left what ever present he was going to, even though Zarc isnt going to give a damn about it and just get rid of it, and then he left after that. ))

((I purposely didnt post with Darres or Rasuk. But you know what. I never want you in this thread, I was never okay with your involvement from the start. So I wont be posting in this thread anymore as long as Brandt is in it. Simple as that. I'm not putting up with you Brandt, and I dont want you in any of the other threads I do. As far as I'm concerned, I want nothing to do with you or your character.))

(( I'll post this evening then. And considering how difficult you've made this thread and how strangely your characters have behaved IC for plainly OOC reasons, I will respect your wishes and make an attempt to avoid RPing with you in the future. I would like to point out for the record though that I've not been rude or hostile to Zarcaine OOC and his hostility for me far surpasses what is appropriate for me fairly innocently inviting myself into his thread (which I concede was inpolitic of me, but not really improper). Whether this is some sort of pseudosexual resentment of me, I don't know, but I would caution you Zarcaine that your character really is behaving like a sociopath IC, and while this is only somewhat uncharacteristic of the character I don't think it's a trait you want to be associated with him and for this reason, in my opinion, you'd be well advised to separate the OOC from the IC context insofar as you're able. I realize however that my opinion is probably not terribly welcome, so I'll leave it at that. But it's my hope that we can conclude my involvement in this thread in one or two posts without quite so much hostility, because with all due respect and upon consideration of the facts here I don't think I deserve it. ))

(( okay.... let's just pause for a second. I've been thinking on it, and getting my anger out there and yes I've made myself look like a complete asshole over a trivial situation. I understand that Amneris was just trying to do something that she thought I'd be okay. To be honest I would have said yes to Brandt joining, if you'd have taken the time to send me a pm asking about it. Instead of restarting all of this and just going on how it was and all that jazz. I'm going to suggest that we restart this thread in a new topic and go from there. I'm sorry to both sides that I've been a prick about this whole situation. I'd like us to get off on a better foot than what I've done recently.))

(( It's okay, I'll just lighten the mood a tad in the post or so to come before I exeunt. ))

"Suit yourself," said Brandt, tiring of the Senator's curious and continuous hostility. The Moff wasn't naive enough to believe that he alone was the cause of it—something else must have been troubling Zarcaine, something that Brandt had exacerbated with his presence here, perhaps. It could be that Zarcaine was uncomfortable with Brandt, an authority figure to be sure, seeming to impugn his authority in his home in a manner that, Brandt supposed, could be perceived as 'arrogant.' Or it was possible that Zarcaine had other reasons to be uncomfortable with an authority figure; perhaps the Senator had something to hide, something that he didn't want the Empire, or perhaps his wife, to know about. He made a mental note of it, but remained disappointed in Zarcaine. The Moff had only the best intentions, to welcome the Senator and his wife to Imperial Center and potentially cultivate a new ally. It seemed this welcome had been rebuffed, however. If anything, Zarcaine seemed intent on cultivating an enemy. So be it.

Brandt had been in the process of reaching into his back pocket to retrieve the last of his gifts to the Kuriyoshis; the recipe for a new beverage of Brandt's invention, the 'Cronese Mon Droit' (a poor pun, perhaps, but a fine drink). The recipe was printed on the beverage list on the back of an invitation to a party in honor of the Kuriyoshis. The invitation, and the recipe, were quietly slipped back into the Moff's pocket. "It would appear that I've tried your patience more than long enough," Brandt said, his cordial tone vanished and replaced with a formal one that was not without a subtle menace to it. "There is however a formal matter I would like to discuss with you briefly, if you would indulge me, Senator. Perhaps you'll escort me to the landing pad and we may discuss it outside? It will require no more than 2 or 3 minutes of your time, and I believe it to be a matter of great importance to you as well as to me."

He glanced at Darres and nodded his head. "Moff Verilia," he said, "My regards. And Lady Kuriyoshi," he added, turning his attention to her and bowing his head in a chivalrous manner, "A pleasure to meet you, and I hope you enjoy your stay here on Imperial Center."

Brandt stood where he was for a long moment, glancing tentatively from Zarcaine to Verilia as neither man said or did anything. Verilia remained in his chair, shoulders sagged as he stared intently at the floor. Zarcaine remained standing, his regal bearing undermined somewhat by the fact that he seemed to be looking at the wall, or the window, or perhaps nothing at all. Contributing to the strangeness of the moment, Rasuk Mithren remained sitting on the bed in the other room, by himself, apparently doing nothing either. The suite was so quiet that Brandt imagined he heard Senator Veritas shuffling his notes in the apartment next door. Eventually, Brandt glanced at Amneris sympathetically, then returned his glance to Zarcaine and Verilia once more. "Ah, gentlemen," he said, "Are you both all right? As I said, Senator, if you would be so kind as to escort me outside, there is a security issue I'd like to discuss with you requiring no more than a couple minutes of your time."

So far, her time on Imperial Center was....trying. She wanted it to be fun, but this interruption kind of put a damper on her first evening there. though she still felt that the Moff was doing nothing and had no ill intentions. "Thank you, Moff Brandt. I will certainly try to do so...." She murmured before she curtsied a little and moved off towards the bedroom so that the Moff and Zarc could talk.

"Rasuk...." She sighed as she dropped down to sit on the end of the bed. No, she wasn't his biggest fan, but she still did acknowledge him.

Zarcaine looked to the Moff as he shook his head. "I would prefer not to step outside, considering you have stormtroopers stationed just outside my own door." He turned as he watched Amneris leave the room, Darres following her as he sent Rasuk out to watch over Zarcaine. The two of them nodding to each other as they stepped towards the door, yet kept the Moff in front of them. Zarcaine didn't like the idea of stepping outside with out back up, at least this way he did, along with the couple of body guards that had also come quickly to his apartment, their speeder sitting silent as the two men stood near it, their eyes focus on the stormtroopers as Zarcaine looked to the Moff.

"I am a busy man Moff, and so far you've ruined my evening by barging into my home." He was at his wits end in dealing with the Moff who seemed to brush everything off and not care if he was wanted or not. Zarcaine stood silent now as he waited for what the Moff was going to say as Rasuk moved closer to the pair, his eyes on the stromtroopers as well.

"And you've made everyone's evening a delight as well," Brandt said sardonically, having to look over his shoulder to do so as the Senator and his guard insisted on walking behind him to the landing pad, even when Brandt attempted to turn around only for the duo to shuffle behind him again. Brandt shook his head. "Incidentally," he added as he noticed that the Senator had summoned additional guards to the scene, "Only the wicked and perverted have anything to fear from His Majesty's stormtroopers. I can't imagine why you're uncomfortable around them." He genuinely couldn't, but made a mental note to find out. The stormtroopers, meanwhile, were uncomfortable with the excessive amount of security as it was obviously an Imperial Moff who was a more valuable target than the Senator of some forgettable Outer Rim fiefdom. Brandt gestured to them discreetly however, ordering them to remain in place by his speeder. Brandt was as uncomfortable as they were with the Senator's paranoid and sociopathic behavior, but it was par for the course for him so far this evening.

"I asked to speak with you alone," the Moff said, shooting a glare in Rasuk's direction, then looking back to Zarcaine, "Because I want you to know that the safety of Senators and their families is something I take very seriously, and that you don't need to resort to declasse 'guns for hire' to defend your lovely wife. I would be happy to assign a squad to protect her and you too if you're concerned." His eyes drifted to the Senator's guards by the speeder. "... as apparently you are," he added. "And I assure you the squad's presence can be quite invisible to you if you so desire."

(( I admit it took me quite awhile to post on the last round, 15 days to be precise. So I've made a point of giving Verilia's various characters not only 15 days to respond to me, but in fact 30 days, twice as long as I took to post and over 7 times longer than the 4 day limit. So I'm going to go ahead and post now. ))

"I'll take that as a 'Yes'?" the Moff said in jest. His chesire grin started to fade, however, when it became apparent that once more both the Senator and his hired thug, Rasuk Mithren, had entered into another queer stupor. At least the Senator did, certainly—it was possible that Rasuk's silence was an attempt to seem intimidating, but succeeded only in seeming quite silly especially as Brandt waved a hand before his and Zarcaine's eyes in an attempt to return them to the moment, without success. Zarcaine, it appeared, was completely catatonic; he was there on the platform, but didn't seem present. Indeed, his eyes were vacant as he stared off at nothing at all. Drugs? Brandt wondered. It would certainly explain the Senator being so uncomfortable in the presence of Brandt and his stormtroopers—something that Brandt simply couldn't understand otherwise. It could even explain Moff Verilia's unannounced presence, if either he or Zarcaine were supplying drugs for one or the other.

This darkly amusing possibility Brandt filed away in his mind, clearing his throat as he glanced to the speeder with Zarcaine's guards inside, both of them looking uncomfortable with the Senator's queer indisposition. "We'll talk later then," Brandt said, glancing back to Zarcaine and nodding his head as cordially as he could under the strange circumstances. The Moff turned on his heel and began to walk alone in the direction of his shuttle, glancing over his shoulder now and then to find that, indeed, Zarcaine and Mithren remained in the same place as if Brandt were still there. He shook his head and made a point of walking near to the speeder and loitering beside it, out of range of the Senator's ear. "You," Brandt pointed to one of the guards inside, "Is this normal?"

"I can't really say, Your Excellency," the guard said, not sure whether to get out and salute or simply remain where he was, he and his partner having been discovered. "Normal for him maybe."

"Well said," Brandt remarked. "Well," he added, "Keep an eye on him, will you? He may need... some sort of medical attention."

"Yes, Your Excellency. That's our job."

"Who do you work for?" Brandt asked, a thought occurring to him.

"The Cronese embassy, Sir."

Brandt thought it over for a moment, then nodded. "Good evening, gentlemen," he said, and walked the rest of the way to his shuttle. As it lifted off some moments later and pulled gracefully away from the platform, he couldn't help but glance sidelong from his viewport to the platform below only to see that, indeed, there they stood. What a strange man, Brandt thought to himself of Zarcaine. He hadn't much cared for Zarcaine's insolence and knew, then, that this wasn't over between them. He depressed a comms switch beside his seat, connecting him with his office. "Threepio," he said, "I'm on my way back to the office. Have Ian Stormwalker on the line for me when I arrive."

((actually I hadn't posted on this because I completely and totally forgot about this thread. So lets just call it finished. Brandt goes off to do his thing, and Zarc and Rasuk go back inside and Darres goes off to do his own thing. I'd also like to note that more than anything, Zarc would at this point be ignoring Brandt, not in a "catotonic state"))
