Sky Marshal received the word that Alsakan vessels had entered Druckenwell space with hardly an eye-blink. It had been expected, though not fully, that Alsakan might well try such a trick. As such, a number of orders had to be given rather quickly. First, the Vigilance and the two squadrons of V-wings were dispatched back to Druckenwell with all haste. Secondly, an order was given to the various container craft, support vessels and more importantly the tugs who were still clustered about the bare skeletal frame of the station. The tugs would begin to rather slowly drag the incomplete structure out of Monor II's boundary of space, followed by the vessels required for its construction.

Rolf was willing to depart Monor II's space, but not without a parting shot of a sort. Of course, the Druckenwell ships didn't plan on going very far either; but that was neither here not there. The Sky Marshal opened a comm channel to the various fleets.

"Ralltiir, the show is yours on the escort duty, as well as to the Cronese Mandate. Senator volFyr, we will continue to provide escort for you unless you choose another benefactor. Alsakan pirates, if you feel you have the stones to play on your own away from your friends, we won't be that far."

Watching the progress of the various civilian and military vessels, Rolf measured the distance on the charts as well. He planned to make a nice little stop just outside Monor II's sphere of influence in the sector.

The Alsakan ships remained with the Cronese vessels. Gunnery ready to fire on the Druckenwell ships having a "fit" of outrage. They did not feel the need to have any stones to fight the Druckenwell Armada alone, they were not suicidal. They simply sent a message informing Pelham the station and some forces were leaving. They scanned e deployment of the weakened Druckenwell fleet.

Verilia's man was given landing coordinates at the Temple-Palace. He would not be impeded, the Senatorial delegate would be given landing coordinates some miles away in a rocky desert area. Verilias man would have several priests and a choir perform a service and conduct him into a meeting room politely. No one was there to meet Volfyr.

Another message from Agapos went out.

"All Druckenwell citizens must leave now, this is their last chance to avoid death from the Maker's loving hand. We wish no violence. We are meeting delegates from a senior and influential Moff to make an agreement over mining and arming our people with legal arms. What justification is there now for Druckenwell to be here.."

Druckenwell's workers had indeed moved out of Monor II's space. Right to the edge, in fact, or perhaps a bit distant. There, the tugs would stop their dragging of the skeletal station frame. For now, though, no work was continued. It was rather childish, in some ways, as some might seem, but with the spending of credits in the expedition so far, it would have been a shame to let it all go to waste. If a customs station within owned space tended to make people uncomfortable and dislike the people therein; it was not likely that anyone could object to a simple research station in unowned space that was designed to study the cirrifog that comprised much of Monor II's atmosphere. Of course, with plans being what they were, things were likely to change.

For now though, the remaining Druckenwell ships sat guard around the site where they station would rest.

The shuttle gently set down on the landing pad near the temple-palace. The landing ramp opening as it set down and allowed the young man to step out onto the pad. He bowed his head as he met with the priest there to invite him into the meeting. The young man had studied the culture of Monor II and gave a greeting as he spoke to the priest. "I thank the Maker that he hath given me the honor of speaking with those that he hath created in his image." He gave another bow of his head before he walked with the priest into the large meeting room. He looked to the other side, seeing the doors that would bring in the others he was to speak with. He approached the large table and set down the datapad and notebook he had brought in with him as he set them down. He opened each to their proper page, showing a well written contract that would give Eos Productions Corporation the full monopoly on the mining of Cirrifog on Monor II.

It also contained the agreement that would foresee the proper agreements followed to ensure that only enough Cirrifog was taken each year, leaving enough to ensure the survival of the younger population on Monor II.

She was standing just behind the pilots in the cockpit of the Star Petal when the first broadcast from the planet was received. She had of course, already known that Monor II was unwilling to negotiate anything that left the Druckenwell forces in their orbit – this of course gathered from her previous correspondence with Agapos IX.

She was still standing there when they received confirmation from the Druckenwell Navy that they would receive the escort she had asked for previously, and this pleased her as well, however given the circumstances she was about to release them from the offer they had made. She had been paying attention to the proceedings of the Senate, and indeed participating still via the Holo Net and as the Druckenwell forces began their preparations to leave, she was relieved that hopefully this would appease the ‘rights’ coalition of Ralltiir, Alsakan and the Cronese Mandate to the point where violence could be avoided. She made a mental note in her mind to protest the Alsakan presence in Druckenwell space. She had the Captain send a message to the Druckenwell fleet,

We appreciate the offer Sky Marshal Rolf, but given the circumstances and the acknowledgement of our diplomatic status by the remaining fleets, it would not be right to ask you to continue to provide escort. You have our sincere thanks.

To this end, she was still standing behind the pilots when the broadcast was received from the planet that they were about to enter negotiations with an Imperial Moff. An Imperial Moff? A complete monopoly? She’d thought, keeping her first thoughts silent and to herself regarding that possibility. Perhaps it was a ruse? Surely an Imperial Moff wouldn’t have taken it upon himself to come to the planet and negotiate such an agreement without at least notifying her; considering after all the Senate proceedings were public information and well – it would have been the polite and considerate thing to do. In not as many words – the political thing to do.

Her presumption that the message about the Moff being just a ruse was reinforced when the co – pilot, a middle aged blonde woman named Agatha Dent relayed to the pilot – Captain Tiyr, that they had received landing directions and coordinates from the planet.

“Captain?” She had spoken up from behind the pilots. The older, gray haired man answered not looking up from his controls.

“Yes m’lady?”

“Summon me when we’ve landed.” She said and turned smoothly and went down the passage way of the ship, turning to return to her quarters within the salon pod of the vessel. The pilots went to keying in the commands that would take them down to the planet’s atmosphere, and then to the planet itself. She was in quarters changing into attire that was what she had thought would be best for this meeting – conservative, covering her completely as well as her hair. She didn’t want to offend the sensibilities of the highly religious Sunei – considering Agapos IX had already said that he was ‘beneath his station’. She had made a mental note when she’d read that to someday be in the position to arrange that particular alien’s slow and painful death. Then an anxious knock sounded on her door. She had her hands up above her head, twisting her hair up in a bun so that she could more easily throw the scarf over her head; she turned and looked to the door,

“Enter.” The door opened and Zeal Tiyr, wearing his purple uniform of the Empress Teta security force stepped inside. His eyes dropped to the floor at first in deference to the potential state of immodesty that the lady might be in.

“I’m dressed, Captain.” He looked up at that. He was a kind, stately older man that had once served alongside her father in the security force, and despite not having had much contact with Avadrie once her parents had died, now looked at her in a fatherly role – little to her knowledge, of course.

“There’s a problem with the coordinates, M’lady.” He said, pausing for a moment and then continuing when she gestured with her hand for him to finish.

“Our initial scan of the site identifies it as a barren desert, and there are no discernible life forms or structures present.” His hands rested behind his back, clasped together as he watched Avadrie’s reaction. In tribute to her stately upbringing, she didn’t scream out in fury. The Moff. She quickly surmised in her mind.

“Turn us around, Captain…” She paused for a moment, bringing her fingers to her chin as she thought for a moment – her eyes turning up and to her left,

“Send a message to whoever is broadcasting for the Sunei, confirm the coordinates and ask why there isn’t anyone there. As bad as it looks I don’t want to assume this is what I think it is, and miss the meeting – but if it looks like a krath and growls like one, it probably is.” The Captain nodded his assent and understanding.

“And Captain? Do make sure to let me know what the Sunei say. I’ll be presenting this to the Senate on our return, if it’s the insult it appears to be.” She finished, before he turned and stepped out of the room, closing it behind her.

Once alone in the room, she strode to the control panel by the door. Being a diplomatic vessel, it was equipped with rudimentary sound cancelling technology. She enabled this feature of the room, waited a few moments and then checked to make sure the green ‘on’ light was lit. Then she screamed; and cursed out loud. Anyone able to watch would have thought it a bit of an odd seen, to see the stately dressed woman gesturing about wildly, her mouth moving in what one could only imagine to be rather foul words.

She was angry. She hadn’t been this angry in a long time, not since Madame Pencron had died. She turned and waved her hand and it erupted from her. It left her body and coursed through the items arranged on a shelf in the corner of the room and hurled them down and scattered them about the room. Her chest was heaving heavily up and down, up and down. She pressed her palm flat to her chest and felt her heart thumping violently against her chest. She tore the scarf from her head and tossed it to the side of the room, her eyes turning to regard the mess she had made with instinctual, accidental release of her power.

“What to do..what to do…” She whispered quietly to herself, composing herself for a moment before she got back up and went about taking off the elaborate gown she had put on for the occasion, quickly changing back into her more casual traveling attire, and putting her hair back up into a pony tail.

Always a pragmatic person, thoughts entered her mind of how best to recover from this embarrassment. Her first instinct was to ignore the slight for what it was, the petty and childish manipulations of a bulbous headed alien as Senator Ordan had called them. There would of course be the matter of Alsakan forces in Druckenwell space, visiting Gall as Moff Verilia had asked her to do and arranging a meeting with Senator Fitzgerald upon her return.

So much to do, so little time; not to mention the resolution regarding the slave trade that she had yet to make known Empress Teta’s position….

A message was relayed to the Monor II communications station as the Star Petal was changing course and preparing to head out the same way it had come.

This is the Star Petal. We would like to confirm the coordinates we received. There was no one or anything there. Please confirm.

The Monor II landing control would explain that as a female wishing to see the Lord of the Horizon she must walk barefoot to the Palace Temple across the Velley of the Sand and give sacrifice at the altars of the Maker in Hasumet, Djelibo and Saar. Then she must be washed in the artesian spring outside the Palace Temple of the Lord of the Heavens, there she must set aside all head coverings and jewels before proceeding to the second court of the Palace Temple of the Priest Prince. There she would have to burn incense (ideally a pine resin based one) on the Altar of the Sun and chant the chant of Ages. If this was performed correctly volFyr would then be allowed access to the first court of the Palace Temple, there she would chant the Lineage of the Priest Prince and recite His thousand names (prompts will be given) before donning a mask to cover her face from the fierce gaze of the Priest Prince. She might then enter his presence if she dropped to her knees and placed her face and arms on the ground before the Priest Prince before presenting him with a gift and being granted his permission to rise she might make conversation but would not be permitted to make eye contact with the Charioteer of the Wagon of the Sun or touch him, or approach within five paces of him without him inviting her to do so.

The Representative of Verilia was granted immediate access (as a man) and allowed to have a glass of iced sherbet and six frozen grapes. A contract would be negotiated out highlighting all of the points discussed (il present it a little later). The Priest Prince regarded the man curiously, hoping he intended to keep his word.

As that all came over the communications array aboard the Star Petal, Captain Tiyr and 1st Mate Dent looked at each other in something akin to shock - and it just kept going. Barefoot across a desert? Three different shrines? It was ridiculous - and people thought the Empire put onerous demands on aliens.

After receiving and recording the response in its entirety, Captain Tiyr got up and walked through the passage way to the Senator's quarters in the salon pod of the cruiser. He knocked on her door. Normally he'd hear the Senator get up to answer the door, or call for him to enter but this time he didn't - and then the door was opened and she stood before him in more casual attire, loose fitting pants - a t shirt and a dark colored jacket over it. She did usually complain of being cold when they had traveled to Monor II in the first place.

"We've gotten a reply from Monor II." He said, hesitating to explain the rest.

"And?" She asked, the Captain shrugged and looked a bit uncomfortable,

"I don't think you really want to know." He said simply.

"Captain.." as she regarded him with a green eyed glare. He threw his hands up,

"As you insist, m'lady. Come with me." And he led her back to the cockpit of the cruiser, where he leaned forward past Agatha Dent and pressed a command on the console that enabled playback.

After listening to all that, she shook her hand sighed and looked to Tiyr.

"I wasn't wrong then, it seems to request that a male Senator accompany me." He shook his head,

"It would seem not m'lady."

"I would be less offended had I been made aware of this requirement before hand, however in lieu of a prudent warning about this, I feel it is only right that I lodge a complaint with the Senate about this." She said, more musing aloud than actually consult with the command crew of the cruiser.

"But I can't hardly be expected to do all that, not that I would submit myself to that anyways - but since they claim to be meeting with a Moff, it would seem more prudent to await the results of the Moff's efforts, whoever he is." At this point she ran her hands through her hair, taking in a deep breath. Her quarters were still a mess from the fit she had thrown in there, but no one had to know that, and considering how she had made the mess - it was best that no one did.

"Your orders, m'lady?" Gray haired Zeal Tiyr asked, standing beside her in the cockpit as Dent held the controls of the cruiser, guiding it in its course to return to high orbit and make ready to depart the system in its entirety.

"Respond to Monor II, tell them that we wish them all the best, but I can't hardly be expected to subject myself to such a journey when they are already claiming to have reached an agreement with an Imperial Moff." And with that she turned and walked away, back down the passage way to her quarters. The Captain watched her walk down the passage way and then sat back down in the pilot's chair next to Agatha, he looked to her and said,

"And people think High Culture is wrong." He tapped several commands on the console and relayed the Senator's response to Monor II,

While the Senator from Empress Teta wishes Monor II the best in its endeavors, not being made aware of this requirement when negotiating with Agapos IX for an audience means that we are not prepared to make such a supplication, nor are we willing to. We hope that in the future you will be more forthcoming with such restrictions.

The landing control replied with the fact that an exception could be perhaps made if a small amount of incense was burned in the Temple Palace by the woman and she would meet Agapos wearing a Veil so her eyes would not be upon him.

The response buzzed over the communications array and Zeal and Agatha looked at each other and then back down the way that Avadrie had already gone.

"Do we tell her?" Agatha asked.

"Of course we do." Zeal replied in an agitated tone.

"I mean, we can't not tell her. She's here on a mission for the Senate." He added.

"Do you think she'll do it?" Agatha asked, leaning back in her chair and shaking her head at it all.

"Politicians kiss babies don't they? This isn't that different. I'll tell her." And he got up from his chair again, to go walk down the passage way to the salon pod of the cruiser. He knocked on the door again,

"Yes?" Her voice came from inside.

"M'lady, its just that..." And he paused, wanting to be sure that she'd be able to hear him completely, something he wasn't confident of with the door closed. A few moments later she opened it about forty five degrees, standing in the rest of it so that the Captain wouldn't be able to see into her room, or the mess that had been made.

"Just what, Captain?" She asked, her green eyes focused intently on him.

"They responded again, m'lady. They said that an exception can be made." He stopped, watching the Senator intently for signs of anger rising or a tantrum about to erupt, instead; she smiled.

"What does the Great Charioteer of the Giant Orange Thing in the sky desire of humble Avadrie volFyr?" First, the Captain stifled a laugh at the rare sarcasm from the young woman and then he took a deep breath and told her what the Monor II flight control had relayed to them,

"Burn some incense and wear a veil?" She asked, confirming it again as she tilted her head to the side in thought. Well, I did expect the veil. She thought to herself, considering the overly modest and formal attire she had brought with her for this meeting.

"Yes m'lady." Zeal nodded affirmatively. Do I even have incense onboard? She considered as she remained silent for another few moments, formulating the response she would have Zeal give to Monor II. It would be an embarrassment if she were unable to even gain an audience with this Agapos alien after everything that had been done and said in the Senate, so perhaps this was worth it.

"Request new coordinates and insist that there be a welcoming party this time, and ask if there are any requirements as to what kind of incense would satisfactory." She finally decided, he nodded,

"Right away m'lady." And he headed back down the passage way to relay her message. In her room, with the door once more closed, Avadrie went to the closet where her gowns were hung, and for more than a minute, considered wearing a backless, thigh high dress ....with a veil. She laughed to herself, all alone in her quarters, before making a more serious selection.

Meanwhile, Captain Tiyr relayed the Senator's response

On the condition that a more convenient landing site be supplied and that there be a welcoming party when we do land, this is acceptable to the Senator. We would also inquire as to what kind of incense is required, or if it will be provided.

True to his word, Ryuun had ordered the Druckenwell forces out of Monor II's space. Construction though, would then begin again. Samples of cirrifog had already been bartered for from the Imperial mining company that had formerly been the primary mining group on Monor II, and it was known that Druckenwell intended to synthesize the cirrifog using similar conditions as found on Monor II. With any luck, the pressure would be off of Monor II, which would be free to contribute cirrifog at its leisure while Druckenwell would have achieved its aim as assisting Monor II. It was determined that a small guard would stay with the budding station until it was completed and fully staffed; a defensive fighter force would have to be produced from Druckenwell to be placed at the station. Until then, though, the more than likely candidate to remain was the EF76 frigate with its compliment.

(( Been a few days. I'm dropping a post in. ))

Work continued on the station, which began to flesh out. When it was completed; something that would occur in the not-too-distant future, a team of scientists and workers, as well as a small contingent of security forces, would be sent to live on board said station. Sky Marshal Rolf had withdrawn with the majority of the Druckenwell forces at last, leaving Captain Jonas Lowell of the Tornado in overall command, with Captain Remus Stern of the Tide as his backup. The pair of vessels, the EF76 and Arquetins, would be a sufficient defense against the majority of any pirate forces, especially with the remaining Sluissi, Alsakan and Ralltiir forces still at Monor II.
