| How long had they been there, living on Dxun, what gave anyone of Onderon the right to claim Dxun their own and question the claim by the Mandalorians on it. Did they live in the jungles, did they survive the beast. No, not a single person from Onderon had ever spent any time living on Dxun, yet they still called it their own. They didnt even have the honor to fight and take it from the Mandalorians themselves, they had to call on the Empire. How long had Vil lived on Dxun, who knows how long, it was long enough though for Vil to have fond memories of his childhood spent in the jungles. He was quickly pulled out of his thoughts though as he heard the word shouted out over the air before he hit the ground. "SNIPER!" Vil snapped back as he looked around, feeling the ground under him, the body of the Mandalorian that had just pushed their leader out of the way and took the bolt himself, now lay over Vil. Two more men rushing over as a grenade went over just feet away, taking out another Mandalorian as Vil got up and took cover behind a large fallen tree trunk.
He looked over slowly, Stormtroopers advancing on their position at the old Mandalorian Outpost that was built thousands of years ago by their forefathers, the Neo Crusaders. Vil motioned to his men as he nodded before they all stood from cover, leveling their assault rifles and quickly unleashing a line of fire to suppress the advancing Stormtroopers. The Mandalorians fighting and holding their line as a handful lobbed their grenades at the stormtroopers. The fragmentation grenades going off and tearing through a few of the stormtroopers that jumped from cover to advance.
Vil motioned as he looked to his men. "Set the mines and fall back!." His men nodded as they continued to fire as a few set up the mines, one man giving a thumbs up before he was hit by the same sniper that nearly took down Vil. When the last mine was set they quickly rushed into the jungle from their line, stopping at a second defensive line as they heard the loud ringing explosions of the mines going off as the stormtroopers continued to advance.
Added (19 Jul 2011, 0:10 Am) --------------------------------------------- As the Mandalorian's held the second line, readying for the next attack, the stench of death began to fill the air. It wasnt enough that they were wearing the vacuum sealed suits, even the filters in the mask didnt help filter out that smell. It was one that many would cringe and turn their nose up to, yet for Vil and those under his command it was something to take in, something to honor, to remember those brothers that had fallen protecting their families, their home, their brothers and sister. As Vil took in a deep breath there came a piercing, almost screeching scream over the air, follow by a loud and deafening explosion. Three Mandalorians near Vil where thrown through the air, the large crater proof enough of what the stormtroopers where using.
Vil turned as he peaked over the log he took cover behind before he heard the next set of screaming rounds tear through the air. It was the only thing that came to him as he shouted out. "Mortars incoming!" He quickly took cover as he dropped his head down behind the sturdy log, the round impacting just feet in front of his cover before it went off. The large crater left in its wake as its blast sent out a shock wave. The log splintered and cracked as Vil was roughly thrown backwards, hitting at the edge of the first crater before he rolled into the pit. His hand slowly came up as he touched the side of his head, trying to shake the numbness and ringing from his body as two men dove into the crater, another round of loud explosions tearing apart the area. One of them shook his shoulder, the mans words coming to him muffled as his ears continued to ring before he began to hear the words.
"Sir, no response from Mandalore, or Concordia. There's no response from any of the Mandalorian worlds in the Mandalore Sector." Vil looked to the young Sargent, he had just joined the small militia force that had been defending the homes on Dxun. Vil was sure that the young man wasnt expecting anything like this for his first time out, a full Imperial assault on their homes, with no back up to help. It was then that another hand touched his shoulder, shaking him as the familiar armor of an old friend, his voice ringing in his ears. "Just like the Clone Wars Vil, you always on your back and me always having to pick you up." Vil sat up as he shook off the effects of the blast that had thrown him before he even got to speak up. "Damn straight Colonel, you know I could give you and your Commandos an easy time." He smirked under his helmet, knowing that Colonel was doing the same. Vil spent the Clone wars getting to know Colonel, and his men, they were family. If they hadnt been, then Colonel wouldnt be on Dxun fighting for the Haran clan like it was his own, because in truth though, it was his clan. Vil had adopted Colonel into the clan, along with another spunky Clone trooper named Shogun. It was these two that brought most of the clone troopers that live on Dxun there.
As he recovered Vil peered over the crater as he saw the formation of storm troopers making their way through the jungle. The Mandalorians under Vil's command where waiting as the last few rounds of mortars hit hard, this time though just splintering the high canopy of trees that surrounded the small clearing. As soon as the shelling stop Vil motioned with his hands, his men slowly crawling forward before they stopped, just waiting for the command now. Vil looked across the clearing as he noticed the storm troopers stopping before they knelled down, no doubt they were worried about mines, and that fear would serve them right. Yet now it served a new purpose, as soon as the storm troopers stopped, Vil gave the command. A loud thunderous roar filled the air as he jumped from cover with his men, the Mandalorians attacking with wild abandon as they charged into the storm troopers, their blasters firing as soldiers on each side. The combination of shelling and blaster fire began to kick up a heavy dust, both sides no longer knowing where to fire as hand to hand combat broke out along the line.
It wasn't until the dust settled that the lines where known again. The storm troopers had fallen back to the first lines once held by the Mandalorians. Vil and his men held the second line of defense, at least for now. It was hard to tell what would happen that night, yet he was sure that the storm troopers were focused more on keeping the dangerous animals away, then a Mandalorian attack. Vil walked up the side of a large crater, standing on the lip as he looked down to see the remains of what had once been two of his men as he just shook his head. The empire was pushing hard to take Dxun, yet Vil and his men were going to push back just as hard to keep their homes.
Added (19 Jul 2011, 2:58 PM) --------------------------------------------- It had been a quiet night to say the least, the only noises being the guttural death growls of those few creatures that had been unlucky enough to step on one of the mines set out for the stormtroopers. Vil had a hard night sleeping, the moment his eyes shut, was the moment he was back on Geonosis, or another war ridden world he served on during the Clone Wars. His mind running through the visions of horror and carnage he had lived through. He tossed and turned the whole night before he was shook awake, quickly siting up as he noticed Shogun standing over him. "Still having nightmares Sir." Vil brought his hand up and shook his head as he let his hand run through his hair before he stood up. "Yeah, still havent gotten a good nights sleep since the War." Shogun nodded as he picked up Vil's helmet and handed it to him. "Well, it looks like war keeps finding you Sir." Vil smirked as he took the helmet and put it on, hooking the breathing system up as he spoke. "Seems like our entire lives will be one long war."
Shogun smirked before the building was shook from a large explosion. "I still dont see even with your bad sleeping, how you could always sleep through shelling like this." The building shook again as another explosion tore through the air. "Guess my mind was always focused on the nightmares." Vil grabbed his blaster pistols and slid them into their holster before he grabbed his assault rifle. "Lets go." Shogun nodded as they left the bunker, stopping at the entrance as a mortal shell landed not too far from the bunker and tore a large crater into the ground. Vil nodded to Shogun as they quickly rushed across the open courtyard towards the second defensive line not too far away. The Imperial mortars still tearing through the sky as they tore craters into the ground and splintered the tree tops as Shogun and Vil dove into one of the craters that had been turned into a makeshift fox hole the night before, Colonel already in it. "Well, look who decided to wake up and join the fight."
Vil laughed as he looked over the rim of the crater, a small group of stormtroopers using the mortar shelling to slowly make their way across the second mine field that Vil's men had set up in the night. "Looks like they're trying to disable them." Vil took aim as he fired a single bolt, the blaster bolt striking one of the mines in front of the stormtrooper, causing it to go off, tearing through the stormtrooper and two of the men with him as Vil slid back down the side. "That should slow them down for a while." He smirked as he heard another mortar round go off in the tree tops above, sending splinters raining down below.
Added (19 Jul 2011, 5:05 PM) --------------------------------------------- The tree tops became a chorus of splintering wood and mortar shells screaming through the air. Yet it was easy enough to tell from the noise that came over the rounds what was coming. The sound of metal joints creaking with each movement as one of the Mandalorians shouted over the mortars screaming through the air. "We have walkers in bound." Vil peeked over the rim of the crater he had dove into, seeing the AT-STs marching forward from the jungle, their weapons firing onto the mine field and tearing out large clearings, pot marking the clearing with small craters from the multiple mines being forcefully set off. Vil motioned to two of the Mandalorians as he shouted out. "Aim for the joints." The two men nodded as they fell to one knee, pulling up the missile launchers over their shoulders as they took aim. Both of them waiting for the right moment before they squeeze the trigger. A large plume of smoke burst from the back as the two missiles came screaming out of the launcher, tearing through the air before they found their targets. The missiles hit their marks as explosions tore through the joints on the leg, causing the two AT-STs to topple over and crash into the clearing, hitting a few remaining mines that caused secondary explosions to tear through the AT-STs.
Vil stood up as he motioned to his men, the Mandalorians forming up as they began to charge across the field, now torn apart from the mines and AT-STs, bodies strewn about as they attacked the stormtrooper lines. Vil and his men rushed forward as they tore through the stormtroopers, firing into their formation before they began to break into hand to hand combat as they fought through the enemy. The stormtroopers began to fall back as another round of mortar shells began to scream through the air. Tearing into the canopy and splintering the trees, a few rounds making it through the dense jungle and tearing into the ground, killing those few Mandalorians unlucky enough to be standing together in the charge. They continued to fight through the jungle, making it back to their first line of defense as they pushed the stormtroopers back. Vil quickly dove into one of the trenches dug by the Mandalorians as he was soon joined by Colonel and Shogun as the mortars began to pound against the trenches, tearing up the ground as the Mandalorians held the line, listening to the mortars scream through the air as Vil looked out over the trenches, seeing the stormtroopers readying for another attack.
Added (19 Jul 2011, 9:25 PM) --------------------------------------------- Yet, there was little time for Vil to think on how to counter it, the next words he heard kicked him into action. "Everyone Cover!" Vil looked up as he saw them, a flight of Tie Bombers coming in as he quickly stood up and ran along the trench, Colonel and Shogun behind him before all three of them dove down into one of the bunker, just in time as the first bombs hit. Thunderous explosions tore through the sky, the bunker shook and dirt fell from the ceiling as the explosions tore through the ground above. The ground trembled with each explosion until it halted, the last bomber flying over as it dropped its bombs, a few sporadic hits here and there. When the final explosion sounded Vil stood up, shaking the dirt from his armor as he stepped out of the bunker to see the damage. His couldnt believe what he saw though, his eyes had to be lying to him. The trenches where torn apart, Mandalorian bodies lay strewn about, the pour souls unable to get to cover, unable to escape the carnage. The anger began to rise in Vil, his blood boiling as he looked towards the enemy lines, another flight of bombers incoming as his men once more returned to the bunkers.
Vil though only saw read as he rushed towards one of his fallen brother, his hands picking up the heavy missile launcher as he spun around. He brought it up on his shoulder, feeling the heavy weight pushing down as he took aim before squeezing the trigger. What happened next was sheer luck, or maybe there was someone watching over him as the missile fired. It shot from the launcher, tearing through the air as he got a lock on one of the bombers. When it struck, it sheered the wing off, tearing it from its place, causing the bomber to spin out before it smashed into the ground, tearing a hold into the enemies line as it slammed into the ground. The massive explosion causing the ground to shake as the two other bombers of the flight pulled off and away, heading out of the area as Vil watched in awe. Those that had been above ground couldnt believe what they just saw, yet the proof of it lay on the ground as the stormtroopers rushed to the area to find any survivors, the firing once more starting as blaster bolts flew pass Vil, each one seeming to miss him as he dropped to his knee again and reloaded the missile launcher.
With a heaving grunt he pulled it back up to his shoulder, the blaster bolts flying around him, striking the ground in front of him as he pulled the trigger again. This time the missile locked, tearing through the air as the heavy smoke from its launch surrounded Vil. The missile tore into an AT-ST, slamming into the main structure, the explosion tearing through it, turning it into nothing more than a pair of legs that fell forward into a smoking heap of scrap. Vil stood up as he let the missile launcher drop before he brought up his assault rifle, taking aim as he began to fire it with out second thought. Standing tall on the lip of a crater in the trenches as he fired at his enemies. His fellow Mandalorians taking a stand and joining him as they began to fire in unison, showing the Empire that if they wanted to take Dxun, then they would pay the price in the lives of lost stormtroopers.
Added (21 Jul 2011, 4:00 PM) --------------------------------------------- Vil stood strong as Colonel and Shogun moved up beside him, one on each side as they fired upon the enemy trenches. They stood silently as more Mandalorians moved out of the trenches, firing rapid volleys of their assult rifle before Vil held his up and let out a shout. "CHARGE!" The entire line formed up as they rushed forward, moving across the cratered clearing, using them for cover as they slid into the large craters. Vil charged up the side of one before he took aim, firing on the enemy stormtroopers, killing an officer as he pulled one of the grenades from his belt and lobbed it into the enemy formation. Colonel and Shogun ran up as they both quickly pulled Vil down into the crater in front of them. Shogun sat Vil up as he looked at him, "If you get hit, then there's no leader to follow."
He nodded as a loud explosion tore through the air, the mortars once again starting to shell the area as the Mandalorians dove into the craters. The enemy line weakening as they began to use the Mortar shelling to regroup. Vil motioned to Shogun and Colonel as they looked over the lip of the crater and began to fire, trying to keep the stormtroopers disorganized as the mortar shells tore into the clearing again and again. Vil stood up as he took aim and fired, his blaster bolts tearing into another officer that was calling in the strikes, a lucky shot tearing through the communicator, giving the Mandalorians enough time as Vil gave the order. The Mandalorians quickly falling back to trenches. It was only a few moments later that the shelling began again, the mortars once more firing as the Mandalorians dug into the trenches, waiting for the attack that was sure to come from the stormtroopers.
Added (27 Jul 2011, 1:18 Am) --------------------------------------------- The shelling continued well into the evening, the trenches looking more like a cratered surface of an asteroid than an actual battlefield. In fact, that's what the entire area that had once been a clearing looked like. The trees were splintered and torn, many up rooted and fallen into the various craters that had been formed. Many of which had been used for cover by the Mandalorians whom used the fallen trees to top off the fox holes dug for them by the enemy. Vil on the other hand knew that holding this line would be dangerous, it was costing them too much just to stay in position. The light above him began to flicker as another round struck just above the bunker, the reinforced roof of duracrete, logs and packed dirt doing its job and preventing the bunker from caving in on itself. He stood in front of a table as he let out a sigh, his hand running along their lines as Colonel stepped into the room.
"News sir, our men on the right flank are holding for now, but it looks like they'll break in the morning." Colonel approached the map as he pointed out where the Mandalorians had lost ground on the right flank, and where they were holding now. Vil nodded as he motioned along the map, pointing out the back defenses that had been set up. "Tell them to fall back and regroup at the secondary line, make sure that the first line is rigged to slow down the enemy. If we get them withdrawn before dawn, they'll be able to rest while the enemy deals with the mines in the trenches." Colonel nodded as the bunker shook again, loose dirt and dust falling from the ceiling as he had a runner come in with the orders. The man nodding before he would salute and rush out, knowing his job as he headed for the right flank. It was easier to move at night in the jungle, even more so when it was their own lines, even with the shelling. The stormtroopers had a difficult time getting their rounds zeroed in, most of the time they either fell into the already cratered area away from the lines, or behind them. Most though were tearing up the canopy which by now looked like it had been shred beyond any recognition.
Vil let out a heavy sigh as he approached the gun port, looking out through the line as he looked at the enemy positions across the field. His hand coming up as a large clump of dirt flew into the gun port, the dirt breaking harmlessly against his arm and hand as another round went off about fifteen feet from the bunker. "how many." He turned back as he looked to Shogun whom had just joined them. "Too soon to tell sir. We cant give an exact number, yet we think we've lost in the high hundreds. The Empire is pushing hard sir, in the end either way, win or lose, it'll still be a loss to us." It was just like the Clone Wars all over again how many comrades had Vil lost in the battles. It was hard to say even now as he thought back on it all. The Republic would call a battle a victory because the enemy left the world. Vil though always called them a defeat. Yes it took lives to gain a victory, yet it didnt take the hundreds of thousands that he had seen lost to do so. Many of the men were lost to the incompetence of lacking Generals. Others like the incident in which a ship was purposely crashed onto the surface of Eriadu also shook him to the core. From what he heard, the person responsible for that had been given an award just for saving human lives. That was the problem though, it was just alien lives that had been lost that day. He had clan members there that day that were trying to gather support and militia members to fight against a Separatist offensive in the Outer Rim. That was all behind him though, that bastard was given a medal, and now here Vil stood fighting for his life, his people, no not his people. His people would have come by now, would have honored the call of a Mandalorian to pick up a weapon and fight for their territory. Yet no Mandalorian came from the Mandalore Sector. They all just sat there, content and lazy, only caring about the Mandalore Sector. Vil scoffed as he looked to the men and women in the room.
Vil wasnt fighting for his people anymore, his people had abandoned him, abandoned Clan Haran. No, he fought for his family now, he fought for his clan, for those that stood in the room with him right now. These were the ones he was fighting for, not some lackadaisical Mandalore that sat in the Mandalore Sector doing nothing. He walked around the room as he touched each of them on the shoulder, the six before him as he looked to Colonel and Shogun, his focus slowly going around the room as he looked to each warrior that stood at that table with him. "I am honored that I was given the gift to fight alongside of each of you. I say we see this out to the end." They each nodded before one of the others spoke up, a young woman named Dar'jetii, not much in the way of a name, as a titled. She was a Padawan during the clone wars, one of the few that survived. When Order 66 had been issued Colonel and Shogun refused, they stood by Vil and put themselves between their fellow clone troopers and the young Padawan. It was also then when they saw the deep loyalty of a few of the clone troopers under their command whom helped them prevent the young Jedi's death, yet also left with them to Dxun. The young padawan stepped forward, her armor showing like a Mandalorian, one whom had immersed herself in the culture.
"If you're going to stand against them and bring our people together, you're going to need this Sir. I found it out in the jungle, just barely showing in a river. I pulled it out and began to clean the rust from it. I dont know if it really is or not, but I think your men will follow only the Mandalore that has the true Mandalore Helmet." Dar'jetii put the helmet down on the table, letting the dim light gleam off of its surface. It was difficult to tell if it really was not. The real one hadn't been seen in Mandalore the Preserver whom brought the clans together again. Vil looked at it as he admired the helmet, the warriors with him looking to Vil. "Sir, if it is or not, the men will rally behind it." Colonel spoke up, followed by Shogun. "You have to Sir, the men need inspiration. They need a symbol to follow." Vil brought his hands up as he pulled off his helmet, setting it down on the table, the darkness of the bunker keeping his face hidden as he lift the other helmet from the table. He slowly brought it down as he put it in place, hooking up his breathing unit to the mask as he spoke up. "Then lets give them a symbol to follow." Colonel, Shogun, Dar'jetii and the others all nodded before they spoke. "Yes Mandalore"
The sun was beginning to rise slowly, just peeking over the horizon as Vil stepped out of the bunker. His men were still staying in cover, a good thing as none had seen him yet. As he stepped out as he walked around the bunker, stepping up the side before he stood on the top. Those six that had been in the bunker with him stood next to him, three on each side. Vil stood silently as Colonel spoke up, no, it was more like a war cry, a loud shout that was echoed by the other five with him. "WE FOLLOW THE TRUE MANDALORE!" That was all that was needed, that single shout. The men and women in the trenches looked up, seeing Vil standing there with his closest advisers, his friends, his family as he looked to those in the trenches. He nodded as the shouting and hollering began to fill the air. Loud cheers of courage and determination. Soon the word spread through out the trenches as Vil stood strong. No one could say that it wasn't the true Helmet of Mandalore, yet it would be difficult to disprove it either. There would be those that would be skeptical and dismissive of it. Yet right there, right now, it didnt matter. All that mattered was the symbol, the one that Vil gave to his comrades that would now follow him to hell and back. Vil shouted out as those under his command cheered out. "True Crusaders Rise! Rise up and show our enemies our true might." Vil stepped forward as he looked straight to the enemies line, his voice booming out, filling the dead air that rose it up along with the cheers as he shouted out.
"We are the True Crusaders. We are the image of what the Mandalorians should be, just like our fore fathers the Neo Crusaders before us that paved a swath through this Galaxy and called it their own."
Added (29 Jul 2011, 1:54 Am) --------------------------------------------- Just as the sun creased the horizon Vil's hand came up. In that single moment he knew he had attention upon him, knew that every sniper had their lens trained on him. That though was what he wanted, he was showing his men that he would not back down. That he would not let Dxun be taken with out a fight, that he would not let the Galaxy say that the Mandalorians had become nothing more than fearful mercenaries. It was his vision now, his to see the Mandalorians returned to the fame they once had, to renew the clans and bring them out of the shadows and stand in the bright sunlight of tomorrow. In a single motion Vil let his arm fall, it was a gesture, a command. Behind him came a loud screaming noise, yet Vil and his commanders stood stone still, not moving an inch. The missiles fired screamed through the air, as they hit their highest point in their arch, the warheads falling from the sky. It was this moment on Dxun, here and now that would form the opinion of the Mandalorians for the next years to come. Would they be known as the cowards whom hid in the Mandalore Sector and allowed themselves to be enslaved, or would they be known as true warriors, as the ones that showed the Empire, that to take a world from the Mandalorians, they would have to tear it away and pay in lives. Vil watched as the warheads stopped just above the enemy line as planned.
He brought his hand up as he smirked beneath his helm, it was time, now was the day of their glory, the sun rose and with it the ever living name of Mandalorian. As the warheads stopped at the end of their path they split open just as planned. It was then that the plan was realized, for now raining down upon the enemy were a handfuls of shrapnel, yet something worse mixed in. It was only seconds after the warheads split open when the first explosion tore into the stormtroopers. Hidden with in the warheads sat grenades, handfuls of them that had been thrown in and set on a timer. Each one slammed into the ground and exploded, tearing holes into the enemies line, others went off in the air, raining their shrapnel down upon the enemy. "Now!" Vil shouted out as he knelled down, his commanders doing the same. At their feet sat missile launchers set out the night before, each of them pulling the heavy launchers up in a single motion as they grunted from the weight hitting their shoulders. It was a single motion, no room for though, just instincts and reflexes as they fired. The missiles screeched through the air as they tore into the enemy, explosions ripping through their defenses as Vil brought his hand up.
"MANDALORIANS!" The trenches soon were flooded, men and women standing atop them, in them, along the rims of blasted craters as they let out a shouting cheering. This is what he wanted, this battle here and now. He could lose his life, yet he knew that he would give in to keep the Mandalorian name sacred and honored. He would see that the Mandalorians here on Dxun be remembered in such away that when others spoke of it, it would spur their own kind to act. This wasnt just a fight, this was a way to show that the Mandalorians hadn't become weak, this was a way to show that they would still stand and fight like the days of old with honor and courage in the face of an enemy that outnumbered their own. Vil stood strong as he shrugged off the missile launcher, the heavy weapon dropping to the ground as he pulled up his own baster rifle. His commanders followed in unison as they dropped their launchers, each of them carrying their weapons as Vil motioned with his hand. Behind him came a thunderous roar as jetpacks lit and Mandalorians took to the sky, casting a shadow down upon the enemy as a single word filled the air.
"ATTACK!" It was their moment, their time of history, win or lose the name of Mandalorians stood here. Vil knew these warriors, served with many of them. He didnt need to see their faces, he knew by instinct that each of them were smiling. That each and every one of those under his command had a grin on their face that their own motions portrayed and showed. This was what it was about, this right here and now. This single action to hold to Dxun that would be remembered forever in the history of the Mandalorians. It was these brave few that stood against a mighty and tyrannical empire. These brave men and women of the True Crusaders shown that the spirit to fight and stand against a stronger enemy was still alive in the Mandalorians. It was a spirit, a thought, an idea, a culture. It was all these things, and yet none of these things that brought them all together. Their actions today would live forever in the hearts and minds of those that would learn of it. Vil knew this as he called for the attack, those Mandalorians above in the sky lowered their heads as fired the missiles from their packs. The weapons slamming into the enemies lines and tearing them apart as a roar filled the sky.
Vil found himself moving now, his foot stepping on in front of the other with out so much as a single thought. First it was a step, then two, then a jog, then an out right sprint. He was heading for the enemy, not a single thought to it as he charged, shouting for those that followed him. "TRUE CRUSADERS!" A loud roar of cheering filled the air as their line slammed into the enemy. They had come to close to even get a shot off, the stormtroopers so astonished and confused that they would do such a thing. That they would charge against an enemy that outnumbered them and continue to fight. Vil dropped his shoulder as he stood up, throwing a stormtrooper over him that was quickly shot by Colonel. In a single fluid motion he spun around, the force of his hit sending a stormtrooper straight into the path of Dar'jetii whom promptly slammed her fist into the helmet, breaking the filtration system before slamming the stormtrooper's back against her knee, breaking his spine. Vil advanced with his men, breaking through as the lines fell into disarray. Those that had doned their jetpacks found themselves on the ground fighting now, next to their brothers and sisters. This was a moment for glory, a time for triumph as Vil marched through the enemy with his commanders following behind. Blaster fire flew around him, those stormtroopers aiming at him continued to fire, yet seemed to miss. Vil threw aside his rifle as he discharged the last blaster bolt, watching it tear through an unfortunate stormtrooper that had charged at him. The force of the bolt throwing him onto his back as Vil pulled out the two DE-10 blaster pistols he carried.
It had broken down into an all out brawl as he took aim and fired. The blaster bolts from his heavy pistols tore his targets apart. The fighting continued for hours that day, not stopping for a single second. Men and women fell side by side, Mandalorians and Stormtroopers alike lay strewn across the battlefield. A loud explosion tore though another position near Vil as the sun began to drop below the horizon. It was a bloody day, one that would be marked to be remembered, and then it was over.
The dust began to settle on the battlefield as Vil stood upon the bunker that he had ordered the attack from. Where he had been proclaimed the True Mandalore of the Mandalorians. Had anyone looked close enough to see, they would have seen the tears that graced his face. These were not tears of happiness, nor of honor. These were tears of pure sorrow, sorrow for the loss of his True Crusaders that fell today, and sorrow for the loss that he could not join them. As he stood there and looked over the field of strewn bodies he felt a hand on his shoulder, one that had always been familiar. "They did their duty Vil. They knew what they risked, and they understood that the Empire needs to be stopped, that the Mandalorians can no longer just sit behind our borders and allow ourselves to be enslaved." Another tear rolled down Vil's cheek as he felt another hand on his shoulder, Shogun looking to his old friend before standing at the edge of the bunker and looking down at the field. "We all know what must be done Vil, we can not back down now. We've lost too many." Vil looked up as he began to listen to their voices, the chiming and often soothing voice of Dar'jetii stood out the most. "They followed you Vil because they believed in you. They charged because they saw you charge, they fought because they saw you fight. You've shown the Empire that there are those that will not back down, and this is the cost of such a symbol." Vil stood strong now as he heard their words fill his mind, his eyes looking over each body that lay there, those that gave their lives as he spoke.
"I am sorry my brothers and sisters. I am sorry that I can not join you in the next life, for I am not finished here. We may have lost Dxun, and we have lost you, yet we will meet again in the next life. I have matters to attend, and I will see you when it is time. Then when you see me and I march down that hall to meet my maker I shall speak with you. I shall tell you that I brought honor back to our people. That I showed we would not stand by and let a great enemy stand when he had the means to stand against them and stop them. I will greet each of you and drink and eat with you. Just not yet my brothers and sisters, not yet."
Vil stood silently as a loud rumbling filled the air behind him, a shuttle landing as the wings folded. The ramp opening as two Mandalorians rushed out, and approached the group. "Mandalore Sir, we have to get you out of here now." Vil nodded as he looked to the field one last time, he and those close to him walking towards the shuttle. The two Mandalorians that had come out stood guard and watched. Shogun, Colonel and Dar'jetii all stepped up the ramp, yet Vil stopped. He looked to those two guards as he put his hands on their shoulders. "Sir?" they both asked before he looked to the ground and knelled down, scooping up some of the loose soil before he let it fall from his fingers. "This is a promise, the Mandalorians will return to Dxun, and we will honor our fallen brothers and sisters. We are no longer the Mandalorians that the galaxy knows, we hold no allegiance to the New Mandalorians, nor to the Protectors or Death Watch. We are the True Crusaders, and the galaxy will once more learn to fear and respect the Mandalorian name." The two guards saluted to Vil, both speaking up. "We stand by you all the way Sir.", "We'll show the galaxy who we are Sir." Vil nodded as he walked up the ramp, the two guards following behind as it closed.
The pilot began to lift the shuttle up, the ship joining with two more as Vil sat down. His hands came up to pull his helmet off, yet they stopped. His fingertips ran over the helmet and he knew that he must wear it now as an enduring symbol. He brought his hands down as he looked to Shogun and spoke. "How many." Shogun looked up as he set his helmet down before letting out a dire sigh. "Too many Sir." Vil then looked to Dar'jetii whom also set her helmet down. "There's only fifty of us left Sir." He looked to Colonel who set his helmet down before he touched Vil's shoulder. "We've been in worse places Sir." Vil nodded to each of them as the shuttle took up place with the other two ships. A final look at Dxun as the bases they once held lit up with bright flashes, the explosives set up by the Mandalorians began to tear through their once mighty fortifications. They wouldnt give the Empire the pleasure of destroying or keeping their forts and outpost. No, the honor of seeing them off was for the True Crusaders. The explosions shown brilliantly on the night side of Dxun as the three ships headed out of the system. Vil looked up once last time to see Dxun, and to remember his promise before the shuttles lurched forward and jumped into hyperspace.
