Outer Rim Lurking

Having completed his assignment babysitting former Senator Crion on Tallaan, he had left a rather kiss-up message for the Imperial authorities to respond. The bounty hunter expects to be well-compensated. The credits is and has always been important to him, a typical trait in that of a bounty hunter. He decided to pull the Kath Hound's Fangs to a stop somewhere deep in the Outer Rim. The ship had just left Tallaan, and he didn't feel like landing somewhere yet. The ship was his home. It's only proper to lurk in empty space sometimes, at least for the bounty hunter himself.

Jak leaned back against the cozy seat, playing the popular game of Dejarik with a FA-5 pilot droid. It's only been a year since he purchased the droid. His last droid were inadvertently destroyed during one of his assignments. He programmed this droid to have a personality toward gaming, a personality that took a liking to Dejarik among other games. The bounty hunter never liked sentient beings...much. Even humans. Who could blame him after the way his childhood life was on Tatooine? He would move a Mantellian Savrip two steps across to counter the droid's M'onnok.

The bounty hunter wasn't exactly the best Dejarik player in the galaxy, but he liked playing it simply to kill some time. Heck, he would go into tournaments from time to time just to pass some time. Sometimes, it can be annoying when there's no job coming up for a while. For the very same reasons, he participate in Sabacc tournaments and gets tickets to swoop racing...sometimes. Jak also takes on treasure hunting simply because he would earn some credits and that it provides fun challenges.

He'd let out a heavy sigh. He would begin to feel the sense of boredom. With no one contacting him about a job and no ship in the vicinity, what could possibly happen out here?

((OOC: This is an open thread. I've made the location little bit broad, so it would work out for whoever wants to jump in. Feel free to jump in.))

Depending on Merston's knowledge of current events or not, he might have been aware of a recent and rather brutal episode on Nar Shaddaa in which a Jedi and a Wookiee were rather in the spotlight for tearing apart a bar and terrorizing a portion of Nar Shaddaa. From the traffic in the space lanes, it was noted well enough that the Jedi's transport, a Sheathipede transport, was seen departing in the company of a pair of additional vessels. Now, while this bounty had been, in effect, captured, Maximov was laying low along the Outer Rim waiting for the Imperials to respond to his message regarding the bounty. Still, two million credits was a nice price to be paid, and it didn't seem unlikely that some bounty hunters might well try to jump his claim and take them for their own delivery.

To this end, Maximov was combining his work and heading to Pybus for a meeting with an arms dealer. However, he did drop out from time to time into realspace to throw off pursuit, and it could well be that one of his jumps took him close to where the Kath Hound's Fangs was currently residing.

While he was playing Dejarik, he heard a loud beeping coming from the cockpit. The bounty hunter would stop playing and got off the seat. Jak immediately head for the cockpit, turning left into the hallway. Almost right away, he turned another left of which would lead him into the cockpit. The next thing he noticed on the screen was that three ships dropped out of hyperspace. One of them was a Sheathipede shuttle. Jak put himself onto the pilot seat. Why would a Confederacy vessel be there? Why is there also a Firespray and a VT-49 escorting it?

Immediately, he remembered hearing something about a Jedi and a Wookiee making a lot of noise on Nar Shaddaa. Indeed, he did get the intel that they were seen leaving the Hutt Space inside exactly the vessels that had dropped right into the area he had taken up. It was very well known among the bounty hunters and smugglers that Boba Fett flies in a Firespray. But does he work with someone else when it comes to capturing the Jedi? Jak had doubts about that. No, it had to be someone else.

Unlike Boba Fett, he doesn't make himself well known. Jak prefers it that way, due to the fact that the element of surprise would be on his side most of time. Indeed, there was an opportunity for the man to steal the bounty away from whoever's holding them alive. But he knew it wouldn't be wise to attack three likely to be modified ships at once. However, he would like to give his curiosity some satisfaction, for the hell of it. The bounty hunter decided to open a channel that would only broadcast the surrounding area.

"What brings you all the way out here? I don't often see many ships passing through this area." A firm tone would be spoken over the radiotransmitter. Obviously, he comes to this particular area rather often.

Maximov was in the Sheathipede still; he'd not set down to transfer the prisoners over to the Fist of the Suns as of yet. It left him at the unfamiliar controls of an unfamiliar and, to his mind, under-armed vessel. Hearing a voice over the comm system brought Maximov up from the study of the control panel. A single freighter? Well, probably a smuggler. It wasn't likely someone going to snatch his bounty would come in something as old and battered as that.

"Traveling," came his short reply. "Trying to find a set-down spot for a meeting with some people. If you don't see too many ships, what brings you here then stranger?"

Indeed, the bounty hunter wouldn't try to snatch the bounty away. It doesn't matter how much credits would be in it. While credits is very important to him, he'd like to stay alive in order to keep getting credits in. His YT-1300 could normally put up a fight, but not against a Firespray. It's well known to be heavily armed, and his odds are even more stacked up with two other ships in the stranger's possession. 'You could say the same thing about me. The only difference is, I'm taking a break."

Jak would remain wary of the ships passing through. watching every move each ship would make.

Perhaps luckily for Maximov, the other man did not know he was not within the Firespray; could not know without a scan of life signs that Maximov's personal vessel was simply slaved to the Sheathipede at the moment; a ship that could not compare to the Firespray and that, as such, Maximov's only means of defense were the limited forward-firing laser cannons in the shuttle and the hope that the VT-49 was threat enough to keep most bounty snatchers away. He wasn't about to gun down some innocent, well, in this instance regarding Maximov innocent, man just relaxing amongst the stars. That would upset the balance.

"Well, good luck to you then. Hope you have a nice relaxing time."

The trio of vessels would move past the freighter at a nice cruising speed, heading for the edge of the system and the next jump point.

The bounty hunter chuckled lightly, leaning back against the chair. He proceeded to put his feet on the controls carefully. Jak would watch the trio of ships pass by the light freighter. He decided to try and fish the guy a little bit. "Good luck to you too. Hope you get the credits you need." Whether the ships would turn around or not, he was about to find out. However, the stranger would notice Jak didn't make any move toward powering the engines or weapons. That would indicate the bounty hunter didn't really care.

"Just don't let the Empire screw you." Another chuckle would be heard over the radiotransmitter.

Maximov carefully considered the man's words. It was obvious he knew who, or at least the general idea, of who Maximov was and once again, the assassin cursed the luck that required him to continue using the Sheathipede. He resolved to be rid of it as soon as possible. Still, there was the matter of this man who might well know too much. He'd been a party to Maximov's path, at least in part. Then again...

"Congratulations, stranger. You made a good deal today. You bought your life for your silence. If I see you again during this delivery, I'm going to have to take it as a mighty bad coincidence. I don't quite like those. You have a nice rest of the day." Prepping the controls, he transferred the information for the jump to the Fist of the Suns. Barring any trouble, all three ships would disappear in a flash.
