Brentaal moved on Praesitlyn with surprising speed that left quite a few of its inhabitants—both Human and Sluissi—bewildered. What had begun as the sudden presence of an Arquitens-class cruiser escorting a handful of Action transports resulted, quite soon, in the establishment of a camp around the landing site on the planet where the ships had touched down. The camp had the appearance of a permanent one, replete with prefabricated structures built to exacting Givin designs; among them, a landing pad, a number of prefabricated warehouses, and a residence that would soon become a barracks. Trees were felled to make room without apparent regard for the land or who might "own" it.

Praesitlyn, at this point in its history, was recovering from the Clone Wars and it had only been in recent years that the planet had seen some modest population growth; it had a few settlements of predominantly Sluissi population, with a minority of Humans, too. These settlements were based around lumber mills, mines, and other light industry that contributed primarily to the economy of Sluis Van, the planet's neighbor. There were no Sluissi among Brentaal's landing troop, however. Most of them were Human mercenaries, though the regal green, white, and gold on the Arquitens' hull made it clear that Brentaal's government was involved in this endeavor too. A few skeletal Givin, also, were on the scene supervising the construction of the base camp.

As the labor continued into the night, probe droids would be dispatched to scout the surrounding areas and the nearest settlements. It wasn't simply for reconnaissance purposes, however; the droids were also programmed to scan for carbon deposits and other exploitable compounds and minerals. The unloading of logging equipment, droids, etc. from the Action transports would be further indication that Brentaal's interest in Praesitlyn was economic. By morning, there would be stories of probe droids snooping about uninvited on Sluissi property on the periphery of the settlements. Later that morning, too, some of the mercenaries and some Brentaali officers and crew would visit these settlements to purchase some food, drink, and provisions, and generally have a look around. When asked what they were doing on Praesitlyn, there'd be no bones about it. "We're here to strip mine the place," some would flippantly say. Perhaps in jest, perhaps not.

That afternoon, around the time that word of Brentaal's presence on the planet would begin to spread slowly but surely throughout the Sluis Sector, it would become apparent to the locals as some of the mercenaries and Givin overseers visited the sites scouted the night before that the interest of these newcomers wasn't limited to empty tracts of land but, it seemed, to existing lumber mills and private property as well. It would dawn on the locals, then, how poorly prepared and armed they, in fact, were for what could well become a dangerous confrontation.

In response to local complaints to the planetary governor, a pair of Law-class patrol craft, Bravo-1 and 2 respectively, had been dispatched to Praesitlyn to speak with said locals and set their fears to rest, as well as to inquire as to the nature of Brentaal's purpose on the world. Sporting mixed human and Sluissi crews, the pair of ships emerged from hyperspace, signaling the local starport of their arrival before splitting up. Bravo-1 would, while remaining at a respectful distance, examine the Brentaalian craft, as well as conduct a low-orbital fly-over of the mining site. Bravo-2 entered Praesitlyn's atmosphere, heading for the starport where it's crew could disembark and begin querying the planet's human governor, as well as locals for information on the complaints and worries about Brentaal's aggressive scouting of mining areas.
