| Ana had set the plates out for them so they could have lunch, but she hadn't touched anything else. She was sitting back in her seat with her hands folded across her midsection as she thought about what had just happened. "He seems....nice." Ana finally said in response, though she was really not sure because it had been such a brief meeting.
"Alyn, I think you should take the position. No one would be better suited than you for it. You know more about defense than anyone, I am sure. If the ruling houses think you would do a good job, then why not?" She would convince him the best she could, but not let on that she was not convinced it was a good idea herself.

| "Because I have a family, my love. Because I promised I would be here for you and our son." He closed his eyes for a brief moment and sighed. "I suppose it's an upside if nothing else that the position doesn't require me to leave Lorrd at all. It's still the principle though; I gave my word that I would be a man at home more. I don't want you to think I'd simply go back on it. And even I were the best suited for the job, they can get the second best. Lorrd isn't going to suffer; we don't have much in the way of wars with other worlds."

| "You may have given your word, Alyn, but I am not going to hold you to it. It is not fair to you for me to come in here and turn your life upside down or keep you from doing things that you need or want to do. I am more understanding than you may think." She finally said as she leaned forward and nudged the lunch tray towards him. "Besides, I am used to being around men who have careers, remember? I will be fine, as will your son. You need to think about the people of Lorrd and what they need."

| Accepting the lunch tray slowly, Stark stared at the food, thinking. "You haven't turned my life upside down. It's the opposite, actually. I asked you to drop everything and come here, away from all you've known. I don't feel right doing that and then simply taking on another responsibility. I know you are understanding, love... but if I accept, it just seems like it flies in the face of everything I've said. I don't want you ever thinking I'd put something before our family."

| Ana sighed softly, having long since lost her appetite. "It is what is right for the people of Lorrd, is it not? That is what is important, Alyn." She leaned back in the seat after a long moment, relaxing some. "You do not need to worry about what you said before about our family. We will be fine. I want to release you from that promise so that you will not feel guilty." Ana gave him a small smile and nodded to the lunch tray. "I made that chicken salad. I hope that you like it."

| Taking a bite of the chicken salad, he smiled in spite of himself. "It's good, love. You're quite amazing in the kitchen, but I think you already knew that." Placing down his fork, he looked Ana in the eyes. "I'll think about taking the offer. Nothing more, nothing less. By the time I hit Imperial Center, I should know what I'm going to do. As for what's right for the people of Lorrd... I can't live my entire life just for them. I have my own life as well, selfish as that might sound."

| She turned her gaze away and focused out the window briefly before he finished speaking to her. Ana was trying incredibly hard to make sure he did what he wanted, not what he thought she needed. Finally, she would give him a silent nod before she stood. "Can I get you anything else? Something other than tea, maybe?" She asked as she smoothed her blouse some with her fingertips.

| Ana smiled some, relaxing immediately when he said that. She slid herself into his lap and her arms around him as she rested her head on his shoulder and held him tightly. Her chestnut brown locks fell in waves over his shoulder as she settled in for several lingering moments. "Better?" She murmured as she stayed still for the moment. "Wait no....you said a hug and...." Ana straightened up and then pressed her lips tenderly against his before she pulled back only slightly. "Will you let me know what you decide? I'd rather not hear it on the news...or something."

| Stark hugged and kissed Ana in return, nuzzling against her shoulder as she sat on his lap. With his arms around her, he nodded slowly to her words. "Of course I'll tell you. If I decide to accept, I'll get a hold of you long before any word comes out of the Senate and you'll be aware. Just hang in there darling."

| "You had better, Alyn Stark. I have this fancy new comm that you got for me and it's never made a sound once. It's only fitting that the first call be from you. Every day while you're gone. Promise?" She was just worried about him going, even though she had no reason to, but it was just how she was. Hearing his voice would make her feel much better. Even if it was only for a moment or two.
"And I promise that I will stay out of the myriads of trouble that I could get in here....and finish the rest of the wedding plans so that you will not have to worry about it."

| He laughed as she mentioned trouble and finishing up the wedding plans. Easing her off his lap and back to her feet, Stark stood alongside her. "I'll make sure that I get hold of you, Ana. Wouldn't want to leave you hanging, my love. I'll call every day possible that I can. Just remember that my schedule is going to be very busy the first few days, so contact may be a bit sparing then. Nonetheless, one way or another I'll reach you. And thank you for finishing up the wedding plans. That ought to take care of just about everything."

| Ana moved to her feet easily and smoothed her clothes before she moved back from him some. "Is there anything else I can do?" She would ask him before she smoothed her hair as well. "I can at least walk with you to your ship, if that is alright." She offered him a small smile and her hand.

| "Of course, were I leaving now." Stark grinned and squeezed her hand. "When that time comes, you are more than welcome to walk me to my ship. We'll have some time to relax until then. At least a few hours. I plan on leaving tonight, actually. Or later this evening. Gives me that last few minutes before the trip, so to speak. For now, I'd just settle for looking out the balcony with you, my love."
