She sat in the repulsorlimo that had been armored on par with some heads of state, although it was unapparent from outward appearance. The skyline of Coruscant enthralled her in the afternoon light, slowly turning to sunset and bathing the towers of glass in an orange light. For once, it was a clear day. She had become accustomed to the constant storms the people of the planet endured with the Emperor's paranoid, perennial use of the planetary shields. A day like today almost compelled one to blow up the generators, even a tempered soul such as hers. Such thoughts were almost unformed as once became lost in the beauty of a clear day.

It had been a relatively calm day in the Senate; she voiced her opinion on a few of the bills presented to the Senate in her absence that were still open to debate, vote where needed and even welcome Senator Lekpin back, with some thought possibly to helping host a dinner party in his honor. She could not think upon this, however, and was left in a strange mixture of bliss at the day and sulking at thoughts of the past; having left early from the day's session and not personally hearing Senator Cambrist's most recent remarks, and to which subject she was already thinking in an odd case of independent quantum convergence. Specifically, the unenviable position she was placed in at defending the debacle at Dantooine. While she knew they were in the wrong for going about the issue the way they did, she could not bring herself yet to speak with Senator Ray after hearing of his actions in response to several overtures to come to a middle ground. Deralian lives were lost, on his watch, by terrorists on his planet that he refused to do anything about. It was at this point that she could feel her jaw tighten and fists clinch in a subconscious reaction that she could not control.

It was at this point that she thought to finally finding out that there were in fact Commandos on Deralia, once the debate had ended; it left her feeling betrayed and alone. It was one of the primary reasons she abdicated her portion of the Throne, no longer wishing to rule alongside a husband that clearly thought himself above her in some matters. She was actually welcoming this temporary post on the Defense Committee, seeing it as a valuable learning experience that could show her husband up. Perhaps focusing her time on Coruscant rather than Deralia would do her, and him, some good; when she left, it felt as if they were on the brink of divorce, not that they would let it show in the public eye. Before she knew it, they had arrived at Raven House, leaving her forced to shake free from the thoughts running through her mind and gracefully leave the repulsorlimo, which would move on to park in the motor pool. She walked up the steps into the compound with a smile, flanked by Praetorian Guards on all sides. While she did not believe it, some intelligence pointed to a possible threat upon her life from upset Dantooinians, angered by her defense of her world. The walk into the compound was uneventful however, and she retired to her study, where she would await the arrival of Senator Fitzgerald. In the mean time, she called to her assistant to have hot tea made.

Fitzgerald wasn't far behind her. Though he didn't demand it of others, he was himself a punctual man. He'd also been called a tempter of fate for traveling as he did with so little in the way of security. But he felt anonymous here in the vastness of this planet-wide city, a freshman senator with fewer demands on his time and attention here than on Ralltiir, a more spirited place, politically. So he indulged in a long walks, morning jogs, and even the occasional bus ride. It was only on official business listed in his itinery—which he insisted on making public in the interest of transparency—that he made use of the (lightly) shielded airspeeders that the Senate provided as a courtesy to its members.

One of these unglamorous speeders set down on the surprisingly—to Fitzgerald—spacious grounds of Deralia's embassy on Imperial Center, the curiously-named compound known as "Raven House." Looking out his speeder's viewport at the beautiful architecture, Fitzgerald admonished himself for letting Core World-bias color his expectations of Deralia and its embassy. Then again, Deralia wasn't any Outer Rim world; it was a world with grand ambitions. Colonialist ambitions, some would say and had indeed said, including Fitzgerald himself.

All of that seemed to be in the past, though. Fitzgerald had accepted Senator Aurelius's invitation to this meeting in good faith, and had in fact looked forward to it. Setting aside their differences on Deralia itself, he and Aurelius seemed to be of like mind on many issues. Hers was a refreshing presence in a Senate increasingly dominated by pro-Imperial fanatics. Fitzgerald accepted an escort through the compound to the meeting room, where the Senator was waiting.

"Senator Aurelius," he said cordially, crossing the room with his hand, perhaps indecorously, extended to shake hers, "Thanks for having me." Fitzgerald probably wouldn't shy from the description of him as an 'indecorous man,' though he'd probably prefer the term 'unpretentious.' He had little patience for pomp and ceremony, had a particular distaste for monarchies that, on this occasion, he'd resolved to keep to himself, and had arrived in one of only two business-style suits he'd brought with him from Ralltiir to Imperial Center. With the plain-speaking Eli Fitzgerald, what you see is very much what you get.

Eli Fitzgerald
Senator of Ralltiir (10 BBY—Present)

"I was elected to do some flamethrowing in the Senate. To a light a fire under those Senators and make it hot for them."
