Hey, I hate to suggest anything that would make more work for management, but I had the thought that maybe management could establish baseline GDPs for the player controlled worlds?

I think it could make a nice benchmark for worlds to base their financial decisions off, give something tangible to improve upon when making trade deals - and give some idea as to who could really outbid eachother (like for deralia's debt).

Just like to say - I don't think this is a good idea. Ambiguity is the RPer's friend when it comes to economics. This is not an economic modeling RP and I don't want to be bathed in a sea of number crunching (happens enough with ships already).

It's just staggeringly complex and arbitrary to implement, and we could have a whole management team working full time who I am sure could not do it justice. As for affording things, I tend to just suggest staying within the bounds of reason (I don't like tossing around numbers over the low billions maximum with a Core World or millions with rimward worlds).

Also it's difficult because it would give the core worlds a massive advantage. Take Alsakan or Imperial Center, they must logically have (as a result of a population around 1 trillion) multi-thousand trillion credit economies.. just to complicated to work out. As a rule though it's best left to discretion with management intervention if it gets silly.

Sorry for commenting, thought this was on the OOC board for some reason.

Oh, well that seems reasonable enough I guess. I just thought of it because of the auction thread.

It's not a bad idea, and we've considered things like it before (GDP, stock markets, currency systems w/prices on items, etc.). But I tend to agree with Ordan that the ambiguity is probably easier for everyone to work with. The honor system seems to work best, with management stepping in if anyone starts throwing unrealistic amounts of money around. It can be handled IC too, with the people becoming unhappy if someone spends too much of their money, etc. The honor system tends to work, though.
