| Appropriate prices rule
"1.13 All prices for custom designed products or services should be in line with those in the canon for comparable products or services. Any significant price variation from the canon should be directly explained and conform to economic realities."
or words to this effect
Basically if you charge 5,000 for a product which has an similar product in the canon costing 10,000 should be expected to be produced at a significant loss.
Essentially some Canon manufacturers are hobbled by the prices some companies charge in the RP atm which are vastly lower. I admit even the canon isn't awfully consistent fiscally but show a general trend, presumably the prices are at the level they are for a reason. It should be interpreted as the rule as widely or narrowly as the management wish.
Sienar, Kuat, CEC, etc produce ships for billions or many millions of credits where custom designs of equal or greater potency are available for a fraction of the cost.
For example canonically the CR90 Corvette costs 3.5 Million new, the Sluis Van Intrepid-class is by all accounts a better ship yet costs just 1.4 million - I don't believe the CEC name would have a 100% value premium to worlds - and is supposed to be the best selling around.
Sluis Van has a capital ship design on the link mentioned which is twice the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer, requires 1/30th of the crew (not including ground forces) and would easily trounce one given it's fighter compliment - a ship of that scale should have a cost in the billions not millions.
I accept the ISD may have a degree of markup, but the bulk of the price of any ship has to be assumed to be the cost unless mentioned otherwise - it seems apparent that the actual costs of ships production, R&D, fitting out etc never seem to get factored in when custom designs come up.
I'd propose people be given the option of retconning their prices to a more appropriate level or to be considered to have suffered a loss on any sales of them at the disproportionate costs.
The principle of restricted bootstrapping To be added to the end of rule 1.2 to encourage actual RP.
"Where a player's character or organization conducts any transaction with another organization or character that they run (or a NPC), at most, moderate profit may be assumed to have been gained. Player controlled assets are assumed to generate a moderate income/profit unless events in the canon or played out in the game determine otherwise."
This is to put a check on the assumption that selling a load of a product to yourself or some un-played world should equal rampant profit. I think also people need to be aware that most companies are not exceptionally profitable and reflect that.
The canonical realities rule
"5.4 Moderators and Administrators should give careful consideration to the economic and technical realities of the canon when considering requests, aberrations should have a reasonable explanation."
To put a check on out of control business acquisition practices in the roleplay.

| I APPROVE of 1.13 and the addition to 1.2, though I think these can be combined together. As for 5.4, while I don't disagree with it, I wonder if it's necessary? It's not explicitly stated, perhaps, but it's certainly a rule we operate by. What's more, 5.1 states "It is the duty of Moderators and Administrators to ensure fair, accurate, and fun RP for all members of the site (in that order)". This was worded carefully to stress "accuracy"—that is, accuracy to the canon. If you do think it's necessary though, I won't oppose it.

| Maybe it could be simply approved as a non-binding directive - not on the rules but something to bear in mind for moderators.
As for wording, I'm open to amendment.
