Despite the growing market for smaller vessels, the planetary market for multipurpose patrol and defense vessels is always in constant flux. While it is virtually impossible to make a single vessel to fit all specifications of need at a low price, a number of combinations have been created here by Sluis Van Shipyards.

Designation: Defender-class Multipurpose Cruiser
Length: 800 meters
Manufacturer: Sluis Van Shipyards
Speed: 60 MGLT
Hyperdrive Rating:
  • Class 1.0
  • Class 4.0 Backup

Engines: 9x ion engines
Armament:
  • 12x Dual heavy turbolaser turrets
  • 4x Multipurpose warhead launchers (forward-firing; two in upper forward strut, two in lower forward strut)
  • 26x Dual laser cannon turrets (twelve aft: three port ventral, three port dorsal, three starboard ventral, three starboard dorsal; two port lower 'wing,' two starboard lower 'wing;' ten front: three port dorsal, two port ventral, three starboard dorsal, two port ventral)
  • 4x Tractor beam emplacements (two port docking bay, two starboard)
  • Mine dispenser (rear dorsal; compliment of fifty mines)

Hull: Reinforced durasteel plating (1,600 RU)
Shielding: SVS Shielding Generator (2,600 SBD)
Compliment:
  • 24x Snubfighters
  • 6x Shuttlecraft
  • 16x Gun Emplacement
  • 8x Large Gun/Warhead Emplacement

Sensor Package: Multiband Sensor System
Crew: 1,900
Cargo Capacity: 3,300 metric tons
Consumables: 1 year

Information: The Defender-class is a blend of hard-hitting defensive ship, miniature carrier and area-denial device. Perfect for deep-space system or sector patrol and capable of chasing down pirate vessels or conducting customs operations, this vessel is a well-rounded blend. It is worth great mention that the compliment of sixteen gun emplacements have been fitted with miniaturized maneuvering rockets, capable of five minutes of propulsion. These particular emplacements are stored externally on the ship's hull, eight on either side of the forward mandibles and have been fitted with circuitry from Sluis Van Shipyards to allow for remote firing procedures, exponentially increasing the ship's firepower when attached. When deployed, the on-board shuttles can ferry over crew teams for manual operation. As a further area-denial ship, the eight Large Gun/Warhead emplacements allow for further defense of an area, especially when fortified with the on-board compliment of mines. It should be noted that once detached, the Gun Emplacements can only be drawn into the docking area of the ship via tractor beam, and the same with the deployment of the Large Gun/Warhead Emplacements. Remounting the Gun Emplacements to the ship requires external technicians.

The major upside of this craft is its lessened crew requirements, largely thanks to Sluis Van Shipyards' minimization computer systems that run at a high efficiency. Included, of course, is the SVS Wurminator system.

So, I vote to DENY the VT Defender anti-slicing suite and the SVS "redundant Wurminator system" because I have no idea what these are and they're not explained anywhere.

I have a broader question though before I proceed; what does Lorrd Engineering bring to this design that Sluis Van can't? I find it really strange that Sluis Van is splitting the credit, and the profit, 50/50 with Lorrd when this is well within Sluis Van's capability to design and produce by itself. I don't understand why they would fraternize with a competitor like this, and lieu of a good reason the fact you RP both companies obviously makes it a 1.2 issue.

I'm highly skeptical of involving Lorrd Engineering in this.

The VT Defender anti-slicing suite is simply the name for Vigilance Technologies' incorporated anti-slicing security software. It's pretty much akin to other forms of anti-slicing software likely found aboard any capital vessel made by any manufacturer. It's simply named as a specific Vigilance Technologies product. Perhaps it has a little more of an edge because Vigilance Technologies is used to working with drones which need to have better security protocol than a manned ship. Similarly, the 'Wurminator' is my play on words for a similar system offered by Sluis Van Shipyards, partly because Jamie once referred to them as 'worms' and partly in reference to the Wurm-type viruses found across the internet by hackers.

When it comes to being a product offered by both companies, Lorrd Engineering brings to the table the micro-maneuvering system that is mounted on the Gun Emplacements (something I believe I mentioned to you before in conjunction with Wandrau Arms) so as not to infringe upon the patent rights currently held by Rothana. As well, Lorrd Engineering by means of Vigilance Technologies is providing the sensor package and anti-slicing suite that offers superior protection. Granted, either company could produce this design on their own, I just figured it would be nice to see the two companies working together. However, I'd be more willing to split it 75-25 with the majority in Sluis Van's favor if they actually produce exclusively at their shipyards.

Though technically I could just have Sluis Van be the one who designed the system for the emplacements and just utilize an SVS-based sensor package and their anti-slicing suite if that works better.

And I just eliminated all mention of Lorrd from the design, making it effectively a Sluis Van ship.

Okay, give me a spell to look over the design itself.

Now that I know what they are, I'm okay with either the VT Defender suite or the SVS "Wurminator" system. I don't think this justifies dividing the profit or the credit for the ship design with anyone else, though. You wouldn't say this is a joint Sluis Van-Koensayr design just because it probably has a lot of Koensayr parts in it (as 1/5th of all ships in the galaxy do).

And I APPROVE of the rest except for the RU and SBD ratings. I don't vote to deny them either, only I'm trying again and again here and failing each time to find ships on Wookieepedia that have RU and SBD ratings I can use for comparison. RU and SBD really are out of fashion these days. If someone can link me to a comparable capital ship design with RU and SBD figures, we can clear this up. I'm content to keep it unresolved for now, though. Hull and shield strength are mostly just statistical fodder anyway; rarely does it actually come up in the RP.
