Above the world of Ossus, one of storied history and carrying a legacy beyond the comprehension of some beings in the galaxy, the Freeworlds Common Navy E8 Enforcer-class Cruiser Excalbibur, adorned in blue and gold markings and the symbol of the League of Tapani Freeworlds across the starboard and port "wing" structures, sat in orbit. Three groups of four T-65AC4 X-Wings were on patrol, and a squadron of Z-95-AF4 Headhunters were on standby near the Excalibur to serve as escort for the arriving dignitaries, and another squadron on alert in the hangar. All fighters carried similar paint schemes as the Excalibur.

Down on the surface, a prefab facility had been built, outside the ruins of Knossa; a rather regal and comfortable conference center and connecting housing quarters, plus a large landing pad capable of holding any manner of vessels this event would bring on. An airfield had been set up as well, in case anyone would bring a large transports, however unlikely that was. At the airfield, two V-Wing Transports sat, idle. Their total package of twelve V-Wing Airspeeders, were on patrol around the region. Security was high, due to the high profile dignitaries, thus Freeworld Common Army troops could be seen throughout the area, doing various things. Inside the facility, a team of crack commandos also stood by. While they could have obtained a simple New Republic force to do the security, the Freeworlds Council insisted Crion use Freeworld personnel to do it...showing themselves off to the galaxy. Crion disagreed, but lost the fight. There would, regardless, be New Republic forces on stand by nearby.

Inside the conference center, all had been prepared, and Mical de Crion, standing with a glass of wine in hand, awaited in the banquet hall for the arrival of his guests. Today was hopefully going to be a productive day.

((OOC: Anyone that is invited can go through without having to do the post by post landing process, and walk into the building. Just try to reference it lpease. Anyone not invited, is a different story however, should that arise.))

Senator Fowlkes had arrived inside a Lambda-class shuttle with his wife, Senator Thanatos. There were starfighter escorts from both Mowgle and Chandrila to escort the shuttle from Coruscant to Ossus, about four BTL-A4 Y-Wing starfighters were from Mowgle. Once the shuttle had the landing clearance, it descended into the atmosphere and landed into the hangar bay. Meanwhile, the starfighters escorting the shuttle landed besides the shuttle. The y-wings were on the standby mode should something happen, and then they would be able to lend assistance to both New Republic Defense Forces and the Freeworld Navy. He, along with Senator Thanatos, were escorted by four Mowgle militia. There were additional security, but they were from Chandrila and were protecting his wife. They also already made their way toward the conference center with a guide, and the guide left once they reached the conference center. He had his men posted outside the conference center, to coordinate the security of the conference with the Freeworld personnel.

Senator Fowlkes was holding a hand of his wife with his right arm as they finally got inside the Conference Center. It had seemed that they were the first to arrive, thus they would also wait for more people to show up as to continue the Jedi Summit.

Notcing that so far, Fowlkes and Thanatos were the only ones that had shown, he decided to walk over a greet them. "Senators, welcome." he said, shaking both of their hands. He motioned to one of the waiters that were in the room to come over. He would bow to them, and be ready to fetch any food or drink they would want. "While we have some time alone, I'd like to speak to both of you on an important matter, and I'll have to be quick about this because I don't know how much longer we'll have." he said. In his earpiece, he was made aware of a lack of any vessels since the Lambda for Fowlkes and Thanatos. "The Republic is in dire straits, due to a severe lack in senior leadership. We have, and haven't for nearly two years now, had a Minister of State. I'm working on having a resolution introduced in the Senate that brings about the nomination of someone capable into the office...that person being myself; to be introduced by another Senator. To get down to it, I'd like to know if I can count on your support, and if not, why and what I can do to change your mind." he said to both of them, still in the veil of secrecy.

Ilanah Thanatos held Tremaine's arm tightly as the pair disembarked the shuttle. Her gaze trailed to the extra security that he had insisted on, though she was unsure that it was all necessary. She had, of course, voiced her opinion and concern over it on the trip, but was reassured that it was in fact necessary. Ilanah was sure that it was really for Tremaine's sanity more than hers.

Her gaze fell to the Senator and she offered a warm smile as he introduced himself. "I appreciate your honesty, Senator, as well as your hospitality. " Her condition had caused her a great deal of discomfort during the trip, so a few moments later the senator dropped into a comfortable chair and smoothed her hands over the voluminous skirting of her gown.

"I imagine that you would like the other senator to be one or both of us?"

He smiled back to Illanah, and noting that she took the seat, he pulled up a chair himself and sat, motioning to Senator Fowlkes to do the same. He did not like looking down at people, but being at their level, and would avoid it when he could. "Actually, and please keep this to yourselves until the introduction of the Resolution, but I've already contacted someone to introduce the legislation and he has agreed. Senator Vanden from Naboo, will be introducing it at the end of this Summit, in fact. I'm merely looking for gaurantees of support now." he said, gauging their body language and reactions.

The Senator would proceed to sitting as to answer Senator de Crion's motion to have everybody sit down. He would listen in to Senator de Crion's proposal to have some support to put him into the office of Minister of State. "Like Senator Thanatos said, thank you for your honesty and hospitality. I have no doubt you are capable of filling the void in Minister of State position, and I do believe you are the right man for the job. However, before I'm going to give you my support, I would like to hear from you on your reasons behind attempting to become the Minister of State, Senator do Crion. Other than wanting to meet the need of senior leadership in the New Republic, of course. It's not that I don't want to support you, it's that I am very curious to why you would want this position."

Senator Fowlkes have no intention at all of going against Senator de Crion's planned nomination. He just wanted assurances from Senator de Crion that the motivation behind becoming the Minister of State is simply in the best interests of the New Republic. He would then notice that no one else had showed up still, he was hoping that the Summit would be a productive one. The reason Senator Fowlkes accepted the invitation to the Summit was because he could help improve the relations between the New Republic and the New Jedi Order. He's hoping that he would be able to help draw each faction closer.

He would enjoy a few sips of his wine as Tremaine spoke. He had always respected Senator Fowlkes, the man was an idealist, and stood up for his beliefs even if he was alone in doing so, a trait he respected. His people, apparently, did too, as the man had now sat for nearly ten years in his seat, despite any controversy or doubt surrounding him. Before he answered Tremaine's question, he laughed a little. "I'm so sorry, I apologize for my rude behavior. Please, if you wish to enjoy our fine drink or food selection, merely ask one of the waiters. We have pretty much anything you can imagine. I believe this young man here is named Benjamin." he said to both of them, then turning to Tremaine. "My reasons...is that I am concerned. For years now, we have gone on without a valuable part of our government in action. President Gavrisom has acted without a Minister of State the entire time he has been in office, and while he has indeed achieved much without this sizeable gap, it is still unnecesarry and puts too much of a threat against the Senate. Take the situation last month into account, the Chief of State was suddenly, and without warning, incapacitated by a severe flu. At the same time, the Chair of the Senate has a heart attack that has him still hospitalized. Should something right now incapacitate President Gavrisom again, we would once more be a government without leadership, unless we have a Minister of State in place to ensure that the continuation of government proceeds. We also need someone that can focus themselves on dealing with the Remnant, and ensuring that peace continues, not leave it to the Chief of State, who should be concerned with domestic and foreign issures elsewhere, not the Remnant alone as the Remnant demands. A Minister of State, an effective one that is, can focus on the Remnant and the other foreign issues we currently face, such as Ravak and Larben, allowing the Chief of State to not become distracted and legislation become backlogged." he said, taking a breath noticing that he had barely breathed for a moment and took another sip of his wine.

She listened quietly for a few moments ad nodded in agreement. "I honestly, could not agree more with you. And a government without leadership....is risky and vulnerable." Ilanah added.

"I am not sure that it is worth the risk to leave our government so weakend....in the event that another tragedy or crisis occurs." Her gaze trailed to Tremaine for a moment as she wondered his thoughts.

Tremaine would look around for a moment, wondering if the Summit was going to be successful as there has been no one else showing up yet. He will do what he can to make sure the voices of the Jedi would be heard in the Summit, but many aren't so friendly with them. He hasn't seen any Jedi show up just yet, which is understandable. They probably cannot show up not because they think they are above the Republic, but because they have several business to attend to. The Senator would take a cup from the waiter by the name of Benjamin. "Thank you, here's a tip." He would hand a few credits to the waiter. Tremaine always liked making everybody else's life little easier if he can help. The eyes would be turned back to Senator de Crion. "You have my support, Senator de Crion. I will vote for you. I wish you luck on the position if you indeed got approved." The Senator of Mowgle would let out a small sigh before speaking once again, "Looks like a slow day here."

Coincidentally, even as Tremaine spoke, the participants at the summit would recieve a portentous transmission from Master Skywalker himself. It was not of the highest quality, implying that he was some distance away and probably in the field, using a portable transmitter to communicate with the chapter house on Ossus. The transmission was then forwarded dutifully to the summit building. Senator Crion, as the host of the event, would likely be the first to see it.

"Greetings Senators, dignitaries, and other respected figures of the New Republic," the transmission began. It was apparent who he was, of course, and he knew most of the participants in the summit, so he felt no need to introduce himself. "I regret to inform you," he began, "that I will not arrive on Ossus in time for the beginning of the Summit; my presence is required here on Tarabba Prime for one or, perhaps, two more hours to officiate a peace agreement. However, the Jedi Academy, and myself personally, regard this summit as a valuable opportunity to discuss the improvement of our relations with the New Republic, and the potential challenges to doing so. I still intend to travel to Ossus as soon as the negotiations here have concluded, but I suggest, respectfully, that the summit is too important to be delayed in the meantime. Please do carry on in my absense. I hope to see you soon, and may the Force be with you all."

"Shame, that," came a familiar, friendly voice from the entrance to the conference room. There stood Eli Fitzgerald, his hands resting on his hips and his brow raised in an almost amused expression as he glanced from the hologram to the Senators. He smiled, the same, familiar smile that had been seen on the holonet tens of thousands of times but which, now, seemed new again. He'd been away for too long, and he said so as he strode in his usual, robust manner to greet his old colleagues. "Illanah, Tremaine," he said, cordially. "It's good to see you both." He placed one arm around Ilanah's shoulder and hugged her close, his free arm reaching out to shake hands with Tremaine, then Crion. "Sorry I'm late, Crion. Your boys up there must have been expecting I'd come in something a bit fancier than an old Barloz-class, gave me all kinds of trouble."

It was typical of him to be unostentatious in his travel, and, for that matter, in his dress. He wore simple slacks and a suit coat over a white dress shirt, untucked, unbuttoned about the neck, with no tie. He also had a modest beard, but whether this was deliberate or, rather, the result of the long flight to Ossus, one couldn't be sure. He brought no security guards with him; only a pilot and a reporter from RNN, both friends of his. He noticed Ben, the waiter, then squeezed Ilanah's shoulder affectionately and moved away for a drink. He could be heard for a moment asking the waiter, as usual, for coffee. Black coffee. The waiter left to retrieve him some, and Fitzgerald returned to the Senators a moment later. "Well, we all heard Skywalker," he said. "Should we begin?"

Ilanah Thanatos snapped her gaze up when she heard the familiar voice of Eli Fitzgerald after he came through the door. She pulled herself to her feet slowly just before he caught her in a chaste embrace, which she returned.

"Eli, it's good to see you here." The senator settled back into her seat and as Eli squeezed her shoulder, idly, she rested her hand on his and squeezed the digits lightly before releasing them and dropping her hand back to her lap.

"So then, where were we?" Her gaze trailed to Tremaine and Mical for a moment.

Tremaine would hear a familiar voice and footsteps coming into the conference room, he chuckled right away. He knew right away it was his old colleague and former Chief of State, Eli "Airstrike" Fitzgerald. He turned his gaze toward the man hugging his wife while having his free arm reach for Tremaine. The Senator would go ahead and shake his hand firmly. "It has been quite a while, Eli." Tremaine would want to catch up with his colleague, but he would have to wait until after the conference room. "We should have something to drink sometime soon." The Senator would turn his gaze back to Senator de Crion once Airstrike asking if they should begin. Tremaine would nod lightly, "Yes, I believe we should begin the Summit. We shouldn't wait for Master Skywalker." Even though Airstrike wasn't a Chief of State anymore nor Senator for that matter, he still has a high respect for him. There were times where Tremaine mistakenly calls him Chief of State. Anyway, Tremaine would like to have the Summit started right away so they can get a lot of important things done.

Eli noticed Senator Crion standing beside the conference table, perusing his notes intently, and took the opportunity to go find his coffee. He returned a moment later only to find Crion was still at it. He raised his brow, glanced from Tremaine to Ilanah and to Crion once more, then cleared his throat. "Well," he said, patting Crion on the shoulder as he moved past him to assume a seat at the table, "Maybe I can put some ideas out there to start us off." Clearly, the former Chief of State still had a habit of assuming command. He also became restless when he had nothing to do. He invited the others to join him at the table in no particular seating arrangement, as he set his coffee down on the table and leaned in.

"It seems to me," he began, "that the problem with the Jedi is and always has been about trust. It works two ways, I think; 1.) the people don't feel like they can trust the Jedi and, 2.) the way I see it, a lot of the time the Jedi don't feel like they can trust the people, the government, and the law. These are related, of course, but I think they should be considered separately. I'm sure Crion probably means to arrange the summit along these lines. So, as for the first point," he shrugged in a resigned way, "I consider myself a friend of the Jedi, but even I admit there are a lot of reasons that people, even reasonable people, don't trust the Jedi—especially people, I think most people, who don't understand the nuances of Jedi teachings. But obviously, the Jedi are faster, stronger, and sharper than most citizens. They can read and influence people's minds. This alone makes most people feel uncomfortable."

"And then there are, well, 'incidents' that have happened recently. Kyp Durron hijacked an Imperial superweapon and blew up Carida, as we all remember. He did it under the influence of that Sith, what was his name, Kun. But most people don't believe that. It is hard to believe. The last I heard, only 13% believe that Palpatine was 'resurrected,' and something like 48% think that Luke, that is, Master Skywalker, isn't telling the whole truth about his fall to the Dark Side and his seeming defection to the Empire, what was it, nine years ago. And there are small, but determined demonstrations on Coruscant every single day against Councilor Organa Solo, a Jedi, being in the Senate. Hell, when Luke was married to Mara Jade a few months ago, some people were saying it was going to be a 'new Empire.'"

"I don't mention this because I support any of it," Eli said, waving a hand dismissively, "but rather to make the point that it's not only bigots who distrust the Jedi. Crion is right that this could become a serious problem in the next 5 or 10 years if it's not addressed. Luke has told me, and I'm sure he'd mention this if he was here, and Ilanah, you probably know this already, that in these last few months since the Caamas crisis he's been making an effort not to use the Force more than he has to. Especially not to read into people's thoughts, or to influence them. He's also encouraged his students not to, and I think it's important that the public knows this. There's no guarantee that a Jedi will always use the Force responsibly and ethically—there's always a Durron out there, or a Desann or a Dal Konur, etc. But if the people know that the Jedi hold themselves to high standards, the next time a Jedi goes rogue or falls to the Dark Side, hopefully the people will understand this for what it is; an exception to the norm."

"I've said a lot," he noted, somewhat sheepishly as he scooped up his cup of coffee and leaned back in his chair, "I should let someone else speak."

He shook his head, and walked over to Fitz after he finished. "First, welcome Mister President." he said to Eli, shaking his hand. "I'm honored that you showed up." he said before turning to the others. "And secondly, I apoligize for my brief moment of inattention. I was looking over a report from one of the Freeworlds intelligence agencies on this Baltimn mess, as we have assetts on the ground there, since I had left following the School of Hidden Wisdom explosion. It may seem a bit...odd, but I am very concerned and have a personal vestment in the situation, as I was a witness to its horror and the grief that has befallen the victims' families. Now..." he said, walking back to his seat.

"You've hit it on the head, Chief. The primary issue is trust. We don't trust them, they don't trust us. By we I mean the New Republic as a whole. Part of it goes back to the Old Republic, in which the rise of the Empire is a matter of confusion and debate still. Some don't know what to believe, hell, there are still many educated, informed citizens, feverently loyal to the New Republic, that don't believe Palpatine was even a Sith. The same type of person exists out there that believe a Jedi Rebellion that had the goal of forming a new government ran exclusively by the Jedi Council was the sole reason the Empire was established. The Clone Wars brought the Republic to its breaking point, and in some cases, Palpatine's reforms were necesarry to combat the Seperatist threat...but it's also a case in which someone went too far to protect the nation and freedom. Its a lesson that must be learned by ourselves and not repeated. The Clone Wars, and the endgame of it, despite being fourty years ago, is still fresh in the minds of many citizens out there. The fact remains that should the Jedi appear too powerful or ambitious again, they will immediatly scream Jedi rebellion." he said, finishing this glass of wine. Before he continued, a waiter refilled his glass.

"President Fitzgerald uses great examples of situations that have stoked the fire of the anti-Jedi movement. I believe some of you may have said this in the Senate chambers, but one resolution is developing education on the Jedi, their ways, their history, etcetera. Programs that allow for everyday interaction with Jedi, both with the government and civilians. What are all your thoughts on that, and of course, what President Fitzgerald said?"
