The Loss of a Senator and a Friend

We are recieving word from Zhyr at this hour that Senator Ardelia Moraine has been murdered, by a currently unidentified assailant who infiltrated her quarters on her homeworld, brutalized and killed her with a weapon that is reportedly consistent with a lightsaber, but that has not been confirmed at this point. I'm sorry that I am announcing this so bluntly, but the circumstances of this loss are so abhorrent that it cannot possibly merit any other description.

Though Senator Moraine was new to us, I'm sure we all knew her to be a woman of compassion, of dedication, and always of good humor. I had the privilege of speaking with her personally on a number of occasions, and I always found her to be as enchanting as she was committed to the interests of her homeworld. She was an able public servant, and I'm sure I speak for us all when I say that her presence will be missed in this chamber. But I also speak for the entirety of the New Republic when I say that her murder will not stand without consequence. Officials on Zhyr are still investigating, and I ask the Justice Council to commit whatever resources it can to finding Senator Moraine's assailant and bringing him, her, or it to justice.

However, I ask now that the Senate observe a moment a silence, in honor of one of our own whose life was taken as so many other public servants of the Rebellion and the Republic have been taken before her, in these trying times.

Allow me to be the first to extend my condolences to the families of Ardelia Moraine. She was an amazing Senator, and through her cooperation, Zhyr and the InterGalactic Mining Core managed to expand a friendship that will last into the eons. We are truly sad about this travesty of justice, and hope that the investigation by Zhyrian authorities reveals the culprit. I would like to ask the good Chief of State if there is any connection between the assailant and former Jedi Darwin Sky, who as far as I am aware still possess his lightsaber.

The InterGalactic Mining Core will--galactically--observe a minute of silence in honour of Senator Ardelia Moraine.

I cannot say that knew Senator Ardelia Moraine. I do not know her accomplishments nor her failings. However, Chief of State Fitzgerald held her in high regard and, as she was a valued member of the New Republic, I will request from the planetary governor that Druckenwell's flags be lowered to half-mast as well for a period of three days. I can only hope that her murderer is brought to justice before he can slay more people.
