| I'm pleased to announce two well deserved appointments to the Defense and Ministry Councils, respectively, although the former vacancy must admittedly be filled under unfortunate circumstances. There is, however, as has been said, an imperative need for an active and able Defense Council, and though he is relatively new among us, I believe that Senator Forte has the vision, the energy, and certainly the military experience required to Chair that Council. I congratulate him on this appointment, and look forward to working with him to implement our defense policy and best defend this Republic. Senator Carson, who I have also considered for Defense (and who I hope Chairman Forte will also appoint to that Council), will now serve as the Chairman of the Ministry Council, which as you all know oversees the General Ministry. I have spoken often on the Senator's leadership and management expertise, both in the military and in the private sector, and I believe that expertise will be most valuable to the New Republic as he now presides over our domestic policies, ministries and institutions. It has always been my philosophy that the bureaucracy must be streamlined, and that government should function more as a business, responsible and responsive to the people, and I believe Chairman Carson is the man to make it happen. Congratulations, again, to both of you, gentlemen. I open the floor to your remarks, or the remarks of any Senators. But otherwise, let's go to work. Eli Fitzgerald
