Subject: Condemnation of the Pentastar Alignment

This week, Wolfram Konig of the Pentastar Alignment announced a "Sedition Act," imposing unreasonable limitations on freedoms of speech, inquiry, and publication within his territory. The New Republic strongly condemns this measure, as we condemn any and all measures that would deprive innocent persons anywhere of their liberties, their rights, and their freedom to exercise those rights without fear of recrimination and imprisonment.

This measure is an act of desperation from an increasingly desperate Imperial Remnant, and proves that even a supposedly "moderate" Imperial faction―as the Pentastar Alignment purports to be―must be regarded with suspicion. Where the Remnant demonstrates measures of real reform, moderation and tolerance, the New Republic will welcome such measures. But where it stifles its dissent, imprisons its dissenters and strips them of their dignity, their liberty, and their rights, the Republic will condemn such measures in no uncertain terms.

The cause of the New Republic is an ambitious, but noble one; it is, in the words of the Declaration of the New Republic, "to secure liberty for all beings." Thus, wherever persons disenfranchise, persecute, and imprison other, innocent persons, this Republic will regard the former as its enemies, and the latter as its friends. Thus, we call upon our friends in the Alignment (and throughout the Imperial Remnant) to be safe, be strong, and resist where you can. The Republic stands with you, and will support you whenever, wherever, and however it can.
