As given, the day after Forte's suspension, to the press. Good evening to all of you, and thank you, friends, for joining me on such short notice. I hope you enjoyed your meal, and as usual with my press conferences, your gifts shall be given to you as you leave.
As you all have noticed, lately, I have been very aggressive towards my political enemies, and rather vindictive to a certain lot. I have also brought taken rumors, and accused a fellow Senator of that very rumor as if it were defined truth. This action is unacceptable, and unbecoming, of not only a Senator, but a Twi'lek. To Senator Luneray Kruus of Neimoidia, I apologize to you, sir, for any and all comments I have said to you that were offensive, speciesist, degrading, and untrue...and retract those comments. I was caught up in a rare anger, and you were the unfortunate victim. I do hope you can accept this apology, and we can move on from this incident, and work together for the betterment of the Republic, our people, and the galaxy as a whole.
I realise that I can get caught up in my emotions, for I am a passionate being. However what has happened is an insult to my parents, my elders, my clan, my people, and the honorable Nosarians of New Plympto that have entrusted me with their representation. To all of you, I apologize for my embarassing actions. I am turning over a new leaf in life, returning to the habits of my people...I fear I've been a soldier for far too long. However, I am no longer in the military, and I believe it has taken time for me to become accustomed to that. I am a Senator now, a leader of the Galaxy. It is time to start acting like it, and time to serve all of my constituents, whether those on New Plympto, or those across the galaxy that informally consider me such, in a manner that is honorable of them.
We face many challenges, even today. There are countless worlds still under Imperial oppression. We are still at war with the Empire. We are also a group of revolutionaries, still getting accustomed to the fact that we are now the galactic government. All of us involved should take time to reflect on our actions, and consider whether or not we are acting in a manner becoming of the galactic leadership. I did it myself, and found I wasn't. The recent events show that. I believe the New Republic can work, as I'm sure my fellow delegates also do, but we have to work for it...we can't just assume we can go on as we are, and believe everything will fall into place. We must strive to better ourselves, and perfect our government. There is a weight upon our shoulders unlike any before in recorded history and these are trying times, but we must persevere, and we must adapt to survive.
But, I digress, this is about myself and my actions, not how to improve the Republic or the actions of other Senators. I do truely wish, that this could of never happened. And I know several others have offended or repulsed by my actions as well, and to you, I apologize as well. I hope to come out from this a stronger being, and a better leader. I thank you all for your time, and hope you have a wonderful night.
